We are lowering the standards for our education in America and we are going to destroy our culture’s prioritization of education but why?

We are removing the SAT and ACT tests but these tests are what make education competitive. We are going to lose to china, Japan, Korea where they compete against each other in education and only the smartest and hardest working students move on. This uplifts their view on education and they prioritize it.

If we lower the standards for our education across all boards, we are going to see a decline in education across USA. We need to keep SAT tests and have students compete against each other at the highest levels. In my school, the smartest people scored the highest in the SAT. There is nothing wrong with the test at all. Why remove it?

Because education has nothing to do with children in the United States. It has everything to do with giving adults plum comfortable jobs that they can’t be fired from no matter how incompetent they are. If education actually had anything meaningful to do with children, it would make a lot of adults uncomfortable and force them to actually earn their disgusting paychecks. One of the major public sector education union bosses was quoted as saying I’ll start caring about kids when they start paying union dues; that sums up American education in one sentence. The short sighted adults who are getting paid now but have no regard for children of the future are more than willing to cooperate with a system that advantages them until they’re dead but ultimately destroy the country.

This is being done for the sake of diversity. That’s the stated purpose. However, there is possibly a different reason. Look at this from the perspective of the typical coastal, almost always left-leaning, elite who is trying to secure a position for his or her children. It’s not easy for those kids to be at the very top of a standardized exam, because it requires aptitude as well as education. It’s a lot easier for them to write a college application essay that uses all the right buzzwords from intersectional ideology that they learned in $50,000/year private school. They have an advantage in ideological indoctrination over, say, a highly intelligent person who grew up in a working class setting. Always ask the question: How does this policy help the elites?

Well they’re college readiness tests but they don’t quite determine your college readiness. GPA will matter more, which I feel anecdotally is a better measure. I’m actually fully okay with unqualified people attending college as well. They will either fail, or step it up and actually pass.


High school is simply not very competitive as it is and quite blatantly very easy to excel in. It, in my book, does not depict one’s true intelligence. Rather the lack of friends, one’s ability to pay attention at a rather young age, or their dedication. If one wants to step it up in college, why not allow it?

How do you reward or find the hardest working and smartest students as a prestigious university? The smartest and hardest working will receive the highest SAT scores.

Involvement, GPA, extracurriculars, coursework, research, papers, anything outside of school, etc. Better depicters than a test that becomes gamed at the prestigious levels.

If intelligence and extracurriculars had anything whatsoever to do with prestigious league schools, how do you think most of the political class that are dumber than a box of rocks got in there and did extremely well? Money connections and daddy. All those test to do is set the smarter peasants apart, but since that is the best we can hope for I still think they should be in place.

As a foreigner I actually believe America has been subject to warfare for the last 50 years at least, from foreign bad actors.

There's a thing called war, and then there's a thing called warefare. Most of what's happening to America looks like the signs of warefare being played to destabilise. I think there's something in "The Art Of War" that speaks of not being able to go to war effectively if your home nation is divided.

Because they make schools teach to the test, rather than teaching to inform. It's just more "No Child Left Behind" nonsense.

Of course, if you just remove it and don't REPLACE it with anything, you're not really moving forward, but at least they're trying.

This is why it’s so important to be active in the school choice movement! Promoting charters, promoting private schools and just generally making educators compete for parents attention and for the money that should be following children instead of forcing them to stay in failing schools in their area would at least be a start towards making a better education system. Ultimately I don’t think attendance should be compulsory; all that does is create a system where faculty and administration can be lazy and not do their jobs with no repercussions to student attendance. If schools and administrations actually had to compete with each other, the students would win. That is exactly why the public sector unions are so desperate and in some cases violent to enforce the status quo.

@Sixgunsound Well, there's certainly some merit to that, but it's not going to be (in most cases) the kid's choice, but the parents'. And the kind of things parents would want in their kids' school are often going to be different from what the kids themselves would want.

Education is always going to serve some kind of adult interests. The kids haven’t lived long enough to know as well as their parents what is best for them, at least in most cases. The unions have already proven they exist to keep bad teachers employed and politically active, the parents might possibly do something different since most of them aren’t employed by the district. School choice makes schools compete, and wherever there is competition among service providers the customer wins.

SAT and ACT are nothing compared to the entrance exams Chinese students take to get into university. But you're right that there needs to be some standardized test that everyone takes. It needs to have more than just algebra and geometry on it, though.

The last 2 years have been a complete waste of time for our kids. Anyone in public schools that had 2 years of Zoom in front of a laptop has lost ground that will never be made up. The kids did not learn anything and schools did not fail anyone. Everyone got a trophy. The teachers unions want to keep doing the paid vacation online learning scam going forever.
