Yes, universal basic income will be a requirement for a successful post AI society.
As for what people will do, work will become more social and AI collaborative. Think Tony Stark working with Jarvis. Human services will still be valuable, like art, writing music, massage and therapy jobs.
I think the work week will be much reduced by default, with only extreme hard workers putting in 40 hours.
This has been discussed since I was a kid (40 years ago). The answer is "no", as people will be needed to design, build, control, service, supervise, etc, these robots. What is DOES mean is that people will have to increase their skill levels or they will be fighting for jobs with robots.
Nope, employment will just shift to meet new demands. Machines need programmers and maintenance. Andcskillled professions will still have a lot of demand. Carpenter, electrician, plumber etc. Building machines to take over those professions whilst not impossible is cost prohibitive.
Unlikely to happen. The trajectory we are on to socialist hell wouldn’t have capitalists who are able to do that kind of research and development for labor saving devices because idle peasants get dangerous ideas.
I don't think every job can be automated but enough can and will be to cause serious unemployment issues. If we don't want a rise in crime and civil unrest then we have to find a way of keeping these people occupied as well as giving an income

Yes eventually that will probably become necessary to prevent civil disobedience on an unprecedented scale. Telling people to eat cake doesn't work in the long run.
Anyway robots were supposed to make our life easier.
No those people will probably starve. Money doesn't just appear out of nowhere. We can print more but that causes inflation. And not only that but robots like that are still a far way off.

Simple, just program the androids to create a resource based economy where money is no longer needed. Of course it could get a little nasty at first but once the greedy people have been eliminated you won't have an issue.

You know the weird thing is despite how automated and advanced our society has become most of us still work full time jobs and even more so.
Big corporations want (and typically get) it all: tax breaks to the point of not paying any, the ability to barely pay workers enough to eat and live somewhere, and still be able to sell their products at disgustingly profitable markups.

Globetrotter22 theorized that unionizing everything would "slow growth and discourage innovation", to which I mentioned Germany's success while being fully unionized as a counterexample. Neither before, during or after Merkel have been any changes in the way unions operate and have a saying in company decision, these settings go back >100 years, the basics even to before the founding of the Deutsches Reich in 1871.
