Ted Cruz says Supreme Court was ‘clearly wrong’ with 2015 same-sex marriage ruling

Sen. Ted Cruz said the Supreme Court was off base in 2015 for its ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage and believes it should be reconsidered.

"I think that decision was clearly wrong when it was decided," Cruz said on his podcast published Sunday, Verdict With Ted Cruz. "It was the court overreaching.

"Obergefell, like Roe v. Wade, ignored two centuries of our nation’s history. Marriage was always an issue that was left to the states. We saw states before Obergefell, some states were moving to allow gay marriage, other states were moving to allow civil partnerships. There were different standards that the states were adopting."

Cruz's remarks come on the heels of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and determining there is no federal constitutional right to an abortion. Last month, Justice Clarence Thomas referred to the 2015 ruling as "demonstrably erroneous" and suggested the court revisit other rulings.

I understand the legal reasons behind this just like the abortion thing. But I am against these changes because when thinking about it from a non-legal perspective. I am a conservative politically, but I was against changing the abortion thing from federal to state level. I don't believe that unborn babies deserve to be killed, but there have to be some exceptions such as rape, incest, and certain health risks to the mother. 15 weeks is plenty of time to get an abortion if necessary. The woman will know that she's pregnant way before that. She will get symptoms very early. And I don't see much harm in same sex marriage or interracial marriage. If two people love each other and want to get married, fine. The only thing same sex marriage is bad is if the couple want to raise kids. Other than that, no harm. So I hope these laws don't get changed from federal to state level. The country might split in half if this sort of thing continues.
