I don't like Pelosi but I support her having the balls to go to Taiwan especially after threats from China. Taiwan is a free country among the growing spread of authoritarianism in Asia. It's worth celebrating. If China sees that as a threat then that's on them. They have their own banking crisis with mass protests and larger economic issues including a housing crisis to deal with without adding a potential war on their plate. For the first time in years the Chinese economy isn't making growth projections and that's expected to be the case in the near future. Their unprecedented 30 year growth isn't feasible long term and they're going to have all kinds of issues to deal with especially if Xi has his third term. American economic growth is expected to surpass China's this year for the first time since 1976. China is reaching the end of their explosive growth and they need to expend a lot of effort to prepare for that.

It's too soon for China to act so tough. It will take another few years for their military to modernize and that's if they meet what could be out of reach economic projections now and they rely on American trade more than America needs to give it. China is far more important to American allies than it is to the United States itself. That's really the only thing China can throw its weight around with currently that has any serious global impact apart from war itself.

In summation, it would be an incredibly stupid decision for China to make this their hill to die on. That's not to say that they couldn't possibly do it. Russia made an incredibly stupid decision to invade Ukraine after all. China tends to act smarter and have a better long term strategy than Russia does though. All China needs to do is play the waiting game until their military modernizes and their economic growth is such that their words actually carry more weight internationally. A war declaration now would be incredibly foolish and counter to that strategy.

The Chinese government has to rattle a saber whenever there's ANYTHING involving Taiwan. If they weren't so belligerent they might actually get unification with Taiwan. I don't think it will bring war.

The Chinese are really pissed off. I also thought that the Chinese would invade this year, because of Russias invasion of Ukraine. It's been almost six months now, so I was wrong, I thought it would have already kicked off by now.
