First it does not actually make a consistant 15 week ban across the U. S. so anyone living a state with a more restrictive ban should not get their hopes up thinking they will now be able to make a choice for an elective abortion in their home state.

Second several surveys/articles have indicated that roughly 90 percet of abortion happen in the first trimester. A large factor of abortions later in the pregnancy are usually for maternal or fetal indications https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1363/4521013 .

Third to go off the point for the second, there is nothing in this bill to allow abortions in cases of severe fetal anomolalies of fetus that will never be viable so the woman that had the baby without a skull and others like her would have to carry a pregnancy to term and risk all the typical risks that go along with pregnancy, some of which could be fatal.

Fourth, even though there are exceptions for medical reasons curretnly there are exceptions for medical reasons in almost all the states that have abortion bans but that still has prohibited some doctors from acting on sitiutions that aren't active threats, even though they could be later on because of fear of prison time, or losing their medical license. So, now if doctors in all states have that fear there will be more women who will undoubtly have to take a potentially dangerous pregnancy to term, unless they can travel to a different country. So that will mean more women dying form pregnancy related causes, way to be prolife Lindsey!

Fifth point, I thought this is the same guy who said this should be a issue for the states, so much for that idea, it's only an issue for the states if there rules aren't as restrictive as the bill, otherwise the states can still legislate as many restrictions as they want. According to the bill, states can legislate more restrictive laws about abortion, those that want to legislate less restrictions have to comply with this bill, yeah well that defeats the purpose of leaving it "up to the states" that's "leave it up to the states as long as they agree with me and are antichoice" type of logic.

So basically this ban does not increase choice for woman in a restricitve state and make things more medically dangerous in the presently least restrictive states and somehow moderates like myself are suppose to see this as a good thing? No, I don't think so.

That’s not right. A lot of people that I at least know who have an unplanned pregnancy and can afford it have chosen to keep the baby. Like only time I’ve heard of anyone aborting is when they know they can’t afford it and putting the child up for adoption isn’t fair to the child in the future. There’s enough children in the foster care system or in orphanages. They aren’t just from the us either. People have adopted from overseas. The adoption process is very annoying as you have to meet certain criteria to be considered which a lot of people can’t because of other reasons whether they are internal or external but they also don’t recommend females who don’t want children or already have a child to get her tubes tied if they are under a certain age. A lot of these pregnancies are teen pregnancies and in a lot of cases I doubt they even get that option to abort because of family. There’s also a chance they couldn’t get their tubes tied because they don’t have insurance yo cover it so it’s expensive. It’s like they only decision this is giving women is get their tubes tied cuz birth control isn’t a main concern for some people anymore or it’s too expensive for people to get.

Considering the wide ranges of abortion laws in the various states, from a total ban to abortion on demand right up to birth, maybe it makes sense to compromise and have a federal law that defines when abortion is legal.

Lindsay Graham's bill is to ban abortions beyond 15 weeks, and allow for certain exceptions: rape, incest, health of the mother. It's an attempt at a compromise.

Personally, I think 15 weeks might be too short, maybe 24 weeks, which is the medically-accepted time of viability, would be better. And it would be good to have meaningful discussion in Congress and maybe a compromise between never and always.

I would prefer women had the right to choose but only chose in cases their choice was taken but since women won’t only abort on rape and incest then I don’t think they can be trusted with this decision… furthermore a child considered too young to safely have a child could be considered a medical emergency due to the size of her hips and danger of child birth at such a young age…

But… I’ll put it into numbers. 930,000 abortions were done in 2017. Less than 2% of them were incest and or rape. So of the 930,000 abortions 18,600 were rape/incest and 911,400 were because a mistake was made… Cruel as it is I’m okay with leaving 18,600 people to die to prevent 911,400 people from dying. I support banning abortion because the lives saved far outstrips the lives lost. Back alley abortions, rape, molestation, emergencies… the deaths from these together still justify taking away a choice that’s been abused so hard it’s unacceptable. But the fact is that Europe has a 15 week limit on abortions and France has a 14 week limit. Republicans are not proposing a ban on abortion, only a reasonable policy that makes sense like the rest of the civilized world has.
