In case you don't know, the live-action Little Mermaid will be played by a black actress because "nobody says Ariel has to be white." Well, going by that logic, what's stopping her from being Asian or Hispanic? Shouldn't we remake a Little Mermaid movie with actresses of every non-white ethnicity so that we can be inclusive as possible? All of this is to say, woke culture seems like an excuse to cater to black people.

If you knew anything about communism, you would know that the communists studied America and determined Blacks were the weakest link in the culture and thus they were always going to be the first set of disposable useful idiots. Blacks are the cannon fodder. The are deliberately set up to die. Fact is, this movie will fail in China and this is top growing market for movie industry. Chinese people don't differ from whites in many aspects.

It's not unlike conservative culture catering to white people.
Both groups identify those who they see as victims and formulate their entire existence around righting the wrongs against those victims.
To varying extents, both groups have valid arguments. The big question is how valid?
In recent years, conservative media has become very savvy at taking isolated wrongs and making them appear to be systemic problems. There's a fantastic amount of airplay.
Conversely, woke media has failed to show how racism is codified in our laws, immigration rules, tax policies, inheritance rights and more. Those are the things that define the USA. They are nearly universally biased to the advantage of those who hold the wealth in the US -- typically, conservatives.
I would assume the core reason is representation. However if so I also feel a mistake is being made.
The little mermaid to start with is one of relatively few ginger characters. And so iconic representation is being taken from an already very minor group which does not really fit the intended purpose of "woke culture".
Beyond that getting a previous character remade to fit you I imagine is a little like getting someone's hand-me-downs. It isn't wrong per say, but since we have ample opportunity to create new characters it seems a significantly better option to make the new characters to be inclusice for the now larger audience rather than remake the small pool of existing ones.

The little mermaid is entertainment, and a work of fiction. It could be played by a Chinese woman for all it matters. But people getting hung up on the actors race instead of her acting or the directors script is the real worry.
It's almost like you don't care Hollywood just produces shit movies these days. Only that the race of those actors must be the "right" ones in your demitasse sized head.
