Are people that view social anxiety or extreme shyness as immaturity just ignorant?

I have extreme anxiety socially, even walking around a super market is uncomfortable to me I could be thinking nothing but I’ll still feel tense unless im by myself or someone I’m close to. I don’t know why though. I’ve always been responsible though and I’m also the oldest child lol

I come from a Dominican family so they don’t understand shy people. I’m just very anxious and completely freeze and don’t look people in the eye. I’ve had Dominicans assume that I have mental problems because they’re just really not used to shy people lol 😂

Maybe im just tired of the same old thing and want a change from just being in his room (in his parent’s house) and being in my house

Yes I think they are. You can't help how you are. You didn't ask to be this way. I think there is a chemical imbalance in your brain that causes this. Therapist only talk to you. The chemical imbalance needs to be corrected for you to overcome your anxiety and shyness. You can try to fight it on your own by forcing yourself into situations that cause your anxiety.

I used to be afraid of heights years ago. I kept
Freezing up and having anxiety attacks when I was up high. I just kept forcing myself to go up ladders. Every time I went higher and higher. I eventually overcame my fear. It took a year for me to get over my fear.

Regarding update, do you think you would be better if you weren't in your house and his house? Would your anxiety get better if you made a change?

I don't think it is immaturity. But in order to overcome it, you have got to practice. You can't just say you have anxiety and then call it quits. You have to create a plan and execute it.

They even had me get tested for autism but i ended up not having it 😭 . I overthink everything and im always tense in public so that’s hell

That is much harder to diagnose that late in life. Plus as females we are also harder to diagnose.

Im sorry but please not this comment I was forced to go to therapy from age 11-18 it never helped and I’ve had 5 different therapists. They all seemed like robots and in genuine. You know why I don’t believe in therapy? Because the only way a person will change is if they decide to change themselves a therapist can’t change you. They even put me on pills at 16 they gave me both anxiety and depression pills it didn’t help. The social anxiety part has still stayed with me but after I stopped going to therapy and met my boyfriend I have gotten better I am more motivated now and I could actually drive. I couldn’t do that back then and now I’m looking for jobs too the old me didn’t care

All therapists do is ask a bunch of questions, listen while they take notes about you, and recommend pills. They also can’t change how your brain works.

Therapists DON'T change you. It helps to think of Therapists as a mirror. They help you see what you look like, so that YOU can change you to what you WANT to be.

I’ve been to therapists for many years they don’t work for me at all. They can’t change the way that my brain is wired. I have gotten better in my life without them I have been able to achieve so many things after I left. They never helped me I helped myself. Like I said all they do is take notes and try to put you on pills. I’ve had 5 different ones so trust me I know. And they all have these fake smiles and have things wrong with them themselves.

Yes, people tend to asse by default that quiet people are arrogant, and are shocked to hear that they are just shy. I have the same issue

No im super shy and I get really tense around people that’s why I don’t make eye contact unless we’re super close

I never have that problem in public not less a store is so packed you can barely move cuz that reminds me of when a crowd separated me an NY mom as a kid in a store I had to wait for my mom at check out cuz that's what she taught me as a kid
