For me, it has to be between Newton and Tesla.
Who was the smartest person the Earth has ever been blessed with?
For me, it has to be between Newton and Tesla.
It is just that with Einstein, we are talking about a dude born in 1879.
And basically all of our current knowledge of the universe is based upon his equations and theories.
1. He built the first theory of gravity that actually made sense. And to this day, no one has come up with a better explanation. "Matter tells space how to curve. Space tells matter how to move." That statement makes me shiver.
2. I don't know how. I don't even understand what kind of mind could get to this conclusion without any advanced equipment for observation. But Einstein, described a universe that had a finite speed for light. And in order to make sure laws of causation, etc. were observed, the universe bends itself around that speed. Such that, time at relativistic speeds slows down. Einstein sets the framework by explaining that at the speed of light, time stops.
3. His accomplishments are too many to name. After producing these ground breaking theories of General Relativity (Gravity) and Special Relativity (Light), he still did not win a Nobel Peace Prize. So he proved that light was made up of particles using an experiment called the Photo Electric Effect. That won him that special distinction.
4. He famously hated Quantum Mechanics. He disagreed with a lot of its conclusions. Yet remains one of its major contributors. It was Einstein that discovered/predicted Quantum Entanglement. That two particles can communicate instantly over an infinite distance. It was Einstein who worked out the conditions for the Bose-Einstein condensate.
5. Trying to describe the current state of the universe, he proposed some anti-gravitational force that kept the universe from collapse back in on itself. He thought he made a very bad mistake. Yet even his mistake ended up being one of the great discoveries of the modern era. As his proposal was confirmed as what we know today to be "dark energy".
6. And we are still proving him right after all these decades. We proved that he was right about space time. Huge gravitational events make spacetime ripple.
7. Then in one of the most amazing feats. We know his theory on gravity cannot be correct at the smallest distances, where it appears to breakdown.
Yet in over a 100 years, we have found no replacement theory.
Almost certainly someone nobody's ever heard of. Once intelligence passes a certain point, everyday conversations with normal people become downright painful. Think of the stupidest person you know. Not the most annoying or objectionable, just the least intelligent. You probably don't even dislike them, or at least not much. Now imagine following them throughout the course of a regular day: listening to their stupid jokes, watching them struggle ceaselessly with even the simplest tasks, that you could pull off with one lobe tied behind your back.
Now magnify that a few times over; that's what the typical genius has to deal with when he (or she; they're less common, but they DO exist) interacts with others. If there was such a thing as the "smartest person who ever lived*", then they'd've had it all the worse. The desire to learn and explain the world around you is very much a trait of intelligence; the desire to share your knowledge and understanding falls off VERY rapidly when you realize that others can't even begin to appreciate it.
*Your third option has a portrait of Galileo, a singularly odd choice. What, exactly, did he do that was so incredibly intelligent? He advanced Copernicus's theories, yes, and there's no inherent reason refinement should be seen as inferior to invention, but when he roused the ire of the Catholic Church and was told to write a book comparing the Copernican model to the geocentric (since astronomy isn't inherently a theological issue), his response was to write a book in which he makes it a theological issue, and calls the Pope a retard.
Was that brave? Unquestionably. Justified? Not really. Smart? Not at all. Not just for the sake of his own physical safety (you were actually much safer with the Inquisition than with the civil courts of the time, but it was still a horror show compared to the courts of today, even in Spain), but for those of his ideas: most people aren't even going to be able to hear them if they're the words of a heretic; of those who do, few will take them seriously; of those who do, few will express them openly.
Ell oh ell!
Except, in order for “nobody” to know of them, then SOMEONE knew of them. How can someone be oppressed for their knowledge and intellect WITHOUT being recognized for their knowledge and intellect? Ell oh ell! You’re not even half as smart as you think you are.
Lyrssoh. The "nobody" I obviously didn't mean literally; a person whom NOBODY had ever heard of wouldn't've survived infancy. Likewise, I never said, nor even implied, that smart people were "oppressed". They aren't, at least not on that basis; they're self-segregating. If you choose to isolate yourself from the people who annoy you, no one needs know that except you.
Good sir, I sincerely WISH I wasn't as smart as I think I am; I'd be much happier knowing that the world isn't as miserable a place as it makes me think it is. Sadly, the evidence- like so- suggests otherwise.
Einstein or Tesla. Edison’s up there too. And Marie Curie for girls.

That's so simple I don't have to run calculations... Jesus of Nazareth. Raised in nowhere Nazareth, he figured out the human condition, followed a plan to reconcile the lost and broken so they could have their lives back... not just in his time, for all time thereafter.
Not only devised, and maybe that wasn't him but his inspirational spirt aka God, but followed it through thick and thin to completion. No-one else comes even close to his emotional intelligence, implementation, follow through, and impact on human life.
The others are more scientifically more intelligent.
@MuddyMole It is if your purpose is to save people, and keeps doing that, and lives for eternity.
Nope, he's failed at that too - he's responsible for more deaths than Hitler. I doubt there's ever been a time where there wasn't a war going on somewhere in the world, between Christians and members of some other religion, or between members of different branches of Christianity, right up to the present day (eg. Christians vs Muslims in Nigeria).
@MuddyMole Not Jesus fault! Devils fault:)
It's tricky. The great scientific discoveries that most people are able to understand, always seem blatantly obvious with the benefit of hindsight. On the other hand, the theoretical stuff by Einstein, Hawking etc is so complicated that no one really understands it, and so we just have to kind of take for granted that it's really smart, based on a bunch of other apparently very smart people saying that it is.
Einstein and Newton are great, hawking actually doesn't come close to those in actual scientific contribution. But they also don't come any close to John von Neumann or John Archibald Wheeler or Enrico Fermi. Most people don't know much about them as they aren't much popular. But they were at extreme levels of genius among genius.
Jesus. His wisdom went beyond simply science. His wisdom enabled the advancement of all mankind.
Someone else: Me! And I'm not going to explain it, because you wouldn't believe me anyway, and it'd be a waste of time typing it.
Probably some person who grew up in an environment where they couldn't fulfill their potential, 50% chance a woman.
Leonardo da Vinci
Aristotele. because he was the one who pioneered the scientific method. without his framework, none of the people you mentioned could have been as successfull as they were.
There aren’t really any metrics so you kinda have to go with the most recent guy in whatever poll…
Whoever has access to the most research, most up to date scientific findings will be the smartest. By default.
Adam.
He practically made all the education and lineage possible.
Sidis created a language at 8 and entered Harvard at 11. IQ estimated to be approximately double Einstein's.
I would say it's Captain Smartass. I hear that dude's got an IQ of, like, 20,000,000,000,000 or something. Dude's smarter than, like, a bajillion Einsteins.
Simples...
I picked Tesla but history may tell a different story. Maybe Ray Kurtzweil is.
From the list, definitely Sir Isaac or Nikola, but the most intelligent person probably didn’t get as infamous as any of the list.
Probably someone who understands quantum mechanics.
If you don’t mind answers that aren’t limited to scientists, Jesus.
The world is still finding uses for Tesla’s discoveries and inventions!
Pietro Ferrero
He intended Nutella
Oh yeah. He's one smart dude. Mmmm... Nutella...
Benjamin Franklin & Thomas Edison
Maybe Mohandas Gandhi
