Having grown up rural and lived in big cities and back to rural now, I think it simple is people in cities can't get along very well. Lots of conflict due to be in close spaces, so they want laws to specify things and heavy enforcement. Less freedom, more government and restrictions to keep the peace.

Rural, people don't freak out over things like a tree going over the property line but in cities people freak out, your leaves are falling on my side... and they cut down have the tree, which they legally can, even if it then dies as a result and falls over. Then the person who cut the parts hanging on their side blames the other and it becomes a legal mess.

Rural people tend to be far more friendly too, we can work out issues most the time without involving the government, law enforcement or otherwise.

I often had problems in the city with people taking my paid parking spot, idiots who don't give a shit, and park where they want due to lack of parking. Simply people were too inconsiderate to not take someone else's paid parking spot.

Very rude people live in cities and they need the laws, then the jobs are tough and hard and I've seen people go from being conservative to liberal when they move to a city, thinking the government needs to do more to make jobs pay more and be less hard, and cheaper housing, etc... they want the government more involved in their lives to make things easier.

Liberals are all about more government control, where rural and conservatives are all about less government.

Simply put, they want or need the government to regulate them more because they can't do it themselves.

As someone who has lived in a rural, a lot of it boils down to the topic of governance. When you live in a city, you're constantly surrounded by other people. Space alone is a commodity of absurd value. In order to make people not kill each other (as much) you need a lot of rules, planning and oversight. You need a robust government. City dwellers rely on the government for far more than rural people do. Rural people tend to be far more independent because there is less competition, and when they have to deal with the government it is not usually a good experience. Rural people prefer the government to butt out, and let the individual communities figure things out for themselves. Rural communities are more centered around the vision of self-reliance.

This is kind of a chicken and egg question, isn’t it? Does urban living create leftists or do leftists create urban living? Hhmmmmm…..
In as much as population centers, particularly in the US, are strongholds of progress, progressive minded people will be drawn to them. A cursory examination of our cultural shift from agricultural economy to industrial economy kind of shows you how we got here. Not so much ‘why’ though. Especially when you look at the number of people, including progressives, opting for more suburban and even rural living after they’ve “made it”. Like, if your reward for putting up with all that nonsense was rural living, why not just choose rural from the start? Ell oh ell!
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not tryna sell this way of life. My favorite thing about rural living is putting up with fewer people. Stay in the city with the other assholes until you’ve worked all your own asshole out. Ell oh ell!

In general people in creative industries like media and the arts tend to lean liberal. This is because there is a high return to openness to new ideas.

Conversely, people in extractive industries like oil and gas tend to lean conservative. This is because there is a high return to grit. The former jobs tend to cluster in coastal cities while the latter are spread throughout the heartland. These distinctions then snowball on each other as people who like the arts are attracted to thr city and people who want to be sure their hard work is rewarded are attracted to industry. This then leads to distincyltive cuktures which further reinforce the same patterns of segregation.

That's why. Major cities tend to have everything they need, thus their survival instincts are significantly dulled, thus in order to find something to feel that void of wanting to do something productive (or just outright doing something that's "productive" in their heads) and they move on to imaginary or retarded issues simply out of being spoiled with goodies, as they have no real struggles surrounding them.

One of the biggest factors is more diversity. Cities have people coming from all different places and different backgrounds, ethnicities, sexualities. It makes it easier to accept others when you're surrounded people come from/have diverse backgrounds. You're more open-minded based on environments. Liberals/Leftists tend to move to cities because of the diversity.

In Australia immigrants move into the major cities mostly and Immigrants want more of their families and their own kind in general with them so they vote for the left. Don't those left leaning sheep cancel anyone with a different opinion anyway?

Most people who move to big cities come from small towns or rural areas and they lived primarily boring oblivious lives. They come to the big city and in the attempt to fit in adopt the local virtue signalling lunacy because they can’t afford anything.

Why can’t they afford anything? They probably went to college for something absolutely useless so they graduate with zero job prospects & immediately blame everyone else and invent all these made up issues for self pity.

The democrat party focuses all of its propaganda efforts on the big cities. All of the local tv stations and newspapers are totally controlled by them. They also completely control the schools and EVERY teacher is a leftist who's goal is indoctrination instead of teaching math, science, reading, etc. This is the only way they can keep power.

Because cities have a lot of younger people in certain districts. A lot of leftists won’t live in the rural areas.  Thwre is also a lot more fraud that goes on in the cities
