I think for me, it’s just that if a government does something, there’s absolutely nothing I can do to defend myself against, my fate is 100% sealed because I don’t have a prayer against weapons of mass destruction. That’s just an always-threat I put in the back of my mind the way I’d do for an illness like cancer. I might just show up to the doctor one day and they’ll tell me I’m dying, and nothing I could’ve done before or after could’ve helped it, it was just tough luck. I’m no match for weapons of mass destruction just like I’m no match for a terminal illness.
Individual humans, that’s a little different. Those are who I would identify as more likely threats to me pursuing what’s in my own best interests. We DO have a prayer of stopping one or a few crazy asshole (s) armed with small weaponry like a gun. We’re designed by nature to box it out with our fists, that’s it. That’s been circumvented, unfortunately, and now we’ve decided it’s normal to be able to kill one another while out of each other’s reach. Same applies for bows and arrows, spears, whatever, as soon as you stop it from being Human #1’s brute strength vs Human #2’s brute strength, we’ve run afoul of natural processes, and that’s what offends me, much more so than the actual violence. I just don’t want to see the genetically inferior defeating the genetically superior in physical conflicts, because that’s simply just not how life on Earth is meant to work. I don’t like disruptions to Earth’s natural processes and systems, bottom line. How we individually feel about any of it emotionally is ultimately irrelevant, “what we want” just doesn’t matter one iota.
Maybe, but I just don’t know what even the highest powered gun with the deadliest bullets and highest capacity magazine is any match for a drone strike on me that would be coordinated from miles away, even thousands of miles. I’d hardly have a chance against artillery from 100 years ago.
*how even
Yes, because I doubt your ability to discern reality from your fantasies. I doubt your ability to understand your biases, your background and upbringing. And I am certain that you would perceive threats where there are none and violence where people are playing around.
Harvey Benford, a 72-year-old living in Cincinnati fatally shot his 14-year-old son, Georta Mack, in the neck one morning in January 2016. The boy had returned home to play hooky from school; Benford, startled to hear somebody in the house, mistook him for a burglar and pulled the trigger. Holding a piece of cloth to the bullet wound, Benford carried his son to the front porch so the EMS team could find them right away.
Brandon Phillips, then 29, fatally shot his cousin Calem Copeland, a 24-year-old Army veteran, in October 2016. Phillips told investigators that he fired when Copeland jumped out from around a corner to try to prank him, according to an incident report from the Toombs County, Georgia, sheriff’s office and the 911 call reporting the shooting. The hallway was dim and Phillips didn’t know his cousin was in the house, he said.
In November 2016, Pauline Lloyd, 51 at the time, fatally shot her boyfriend, 50-year-old Kelvin Watford, inside their Trenton, New Jersey, home. She thought he was away on a business trip and that someone had broken in, she told the 911 dispatcher. “He’s dead. I can’t do anything. I can’t do anything,” she sobbed into the phone. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
Cars don't have emotions. They don't have emotional breakdowns. They aren't racist or xenophobic. They don't imagine enemies coming out of the woodwork.
And above all they don't watch the most extremist youtube videos to be indoctrinated into madness.
So yeah, I trust the "gumberment" 1000 times more than a confused anti-social insane racist who watches political youtube videos all day to be radicalized.
@RolandCuthbert Guns are not racist, xenophobic, or emotional either.
@RealMarek Dude, read the question.
He asks why doesn't gun control advocates trust him.
Wow. . .
Most gun control advocates don't trust the police, so go figure. They are defund the police and yet trust the government to protect them at the same time, after they remove the ability for people to protect themselves.
They are also delusional in thinking that somehow if all guns were outlawed that there would be no guns anywhere. Despite the fact that the gun trafficking is right after drug trafficking and can't be stopped.
Doesn't matter if guns are going south into Mexico, or coming in from Mexico, goes both ways. If they can't keep people out, how would they keep guns out?
Plus people can make their own, gunsmiths are a real thing. It won't be long before people can easily use a 3d printer to print a gun.
I was told flat out to my face by a Democrat, that I should just be the victim of a crime such as rape then report it to the police afterwards and let the system work. If I got killed, it was for the greater good to stop mass shootings. If the system failed, oh well therapy fixes everything.
Right, my death would be for the greater good, easy for them to say. I'd rather the criminals death be for the greater good of society.
We need far less gun control, try removing some of the 30,000+ gun laws in the country and enforce the ones that really matter.
Then I laugh when a liberal will say, we just need to keep guns out of people with mental issues, but they mean that those with depression shouldn't have them, thus 90% of people in the US wouldn't be allowed a gun. Rape victims or vets with PTSD wouldn't be allowed them.
A politician can't just wake up one morning pissed off at the world and launch a nuke. There's a whole lot of safeguards in place. But there's absolutely nothing stopping you going on a mass shooting.
I can't recall the last time a licenced gun owner was in the news for anything beyond a self defense shooting in Canada and even then it was several years ago. Criminals though, are doing it on the daily.
Maybe the PM of the UK can't, but Joe Biden could order tactical or strategic nuclear strikes and yes, most of those charged with deploying them would comply.
@LiamJHayden ^^ this.
Biden is surrounded by advisors and military strategists. Nuclear wars are more complex than just whacking a big red button. The final say might be the presidents but I can't believe the decision to go down that route is, he's simply not qualified.
@purplepoppy The problem is that the neoconservative faction controls Biden. There are elements in the Treasury and Defense Depts. that are less hawkish, but the neocons are the ones who have been writing articles about how a limited nuclear exchange is worth consideration. They are ideologically possessed neo-Trotskyites with no reverse gear and a track record of military disasters. I hate to say it, but there is a non-zero chance that the red button gets pressed.

So rather than fighting corruption in government you opt to instead think that going to war with the government is the best idea?
OK then, let's use that logic. For arguments sake, let's assume that there was a purge event that's taking place and that the government has opted to go full berserk mode on its citizens. Do you really believe that some pistols, hunting rifles and semi-automatic guns would get the job done against the latest cutting-edge tracking technology and the most advanced state-of the-art weaponry? There's a reason the US invests upwards of $700B on its military.
Also, what I find hilarious is that often those who advocate for guns are also the ones that advocate for having a large military. So by your own logic, you are trusting the government to protect you against other forces, but that same government you cannot fully trust to not attack you? What if they use all $700B of their resources against you, then what? A few AR-15s are not going to work against nuclear weapons, I don't care if you have the numerical advantage. You're shooting yourself in the foot (no puns intended) by agreeing to have a large military, but then assuming that that military is going to attack.
The US government isn't innocent. However, one thing is for sure, if they wanted you gone you will be gone. It's the doomsday preppers that I think you should be worried more about.
Bro, I don't think you understand what I said, so let me reiterate.
It's a losing battle. The US military is not one you want to fuck with, that's for sure. Your 2nd ammendment will not do shit, it will only get you killed in the event of an all out war. Therefore, your paranoia is unnecessary because we're talking about a hypothetical scenario that's very unlikely to happen, and even if it does happen, you don't stand a chance.
If one looks at data and statistics, they'll realize that gun violence in the U. S. is actually not common. But there has been a decades long war to get rid of second amendment protections. The war is funded by uber-(New World Order)-elites like Bloomberg, who create astroturf organizations. They publish false and misleading information while suppressing information that doesn't support their narrative. Mainstream media is in on it.
So, right off the bat, "gun control" supporters are brainwashed. Their opinions are based on agreement with the consensus, as opposed to independent research and reason.
They will jump through hoops to rationalize their beliefs, even if that means being hypocritical.

The question isn't so much about whether people trust government. (If they do, they are idiots, but that's beside the point). It's whether or not they think the government will protect them under all circumstances.
People need the means to be self reliant in case of emergencies.
It's not funny so much as it is disturbing.
Where you see the population disarmed you see the rise of tyrants, be they criminals, or the extremes of the authoritarian right or left.
Right now we're starting to see crime get out of control in Canada, and the new gun policies aren't making things any better.
Australia seems like a testbed for things to come here.
That social credit system is basically just a real life episode of black mirror
I think it depends on the kind of government. I'm an elected official, I've received death threats which the police won't investigate; and I still got crap for carrying a gun with my license, in full respect of the law.
Some people even called me a Nazi because it'a a Walther P38.
Meh. I am part of the local government and we are for freedom and secession from the central capital.
Our region is exploited and made to pay for the others.
Interesting choice of firearm any particular reason you choose it?
@ArtemisSilver mostly because it looks fancy but it's surprisingly easy to keep and maintain. Where I live many gun owners have reconditioned WWII-era guns. I also own a CZ-25 which is more versatile.
@ArtemisSilver *CZ-27
I'd probably go a Beretta M9 personally, but I understand why you might like to go for a compact.
@ArtemisSilver I own a 98FS too, I like it but it's not my favorite gun.
It's all about how easily it aligns with your hand and muscle memory. I just like the m9 as it was my second training weapon and quite a bit easier to use than that silly desert eagle. Alas in Canada I am allowed none of them.
You do know that government, governs it's guns. And if they want to annihilate all earth, your pesky assault rifles won't mean a thing and allowing random civilians having any weapon they choose is way chancier than government having ample supply for defence?
Those are not the government's guns, the government can only govern us with our consent collectively.
The founding fathers had very strong viewpoints on the citizenry being armed and the dangers of a standing army. Lo and behold, they are proven correct that a standing army leads to a lot of corruption and war profiteering.
Your founding fathers are all dead, and this gunlaw is more about your colonial days than your founding fathers' ideologies.
When the British needed people at their colonies, they promised them to keep what they own, to make sure random people protect their own lands and fields without help from military
Which still lingers in US today, but it just is too unregulated and pathetic at this point.
Your founding fathers lived more than two centuries ago, they were also slave owners mind you, because that was then, this is now
Yeah I don't think I didn't notice what happened to Australia when they were disarmed. Not going to happen, not here in America. We don't do that European bullshit over here.
People think twice before messing with someone in the USA, especially tourists who are not used to people being armed.
You're too fucking self important to begin with, if you're threatened by tourists
And what happened in Australia? Kids kill eachother in your country by the score each year, you're still concerned about Australia
Talk about self unawareness.
What sort of a fucked up logic is this? Drunk driving is a crime. You're showing up South Australia constantly, as if it's some North Korea
Your government can force the exact same regulations if it wishes so, and you'll not be able to really stop them from anything because your ''freedom'' is not rooted in you or your society, it's established by state organisation, the same state organisation has the means to prohibit, curtail it or using any other measures if necessary.
American democracy is highly regulated. That didn't stop them from bailing out big banks and all those people who were robbing you blind with morgage securities in 2008. Your freedom loving government took your money, to bail people who caused your entire nation to have an insane financial breakdown, and you could do a thing?
This gun law is actually what they want. Because it allows dumb and ignorant mfs like you to identify simple a thing like owning guns with ''Freedom, liberty American waaay'', things you can hardly recognise in modern American society and feel good about yourself.
In truth, you're just being fooled by Republicans who push these pointless agendas that doesn't serve any of you. They just create division with you with more democrat fancying liberal dumbasses so that they can keep up with all the charade
You seriously are thinking that you can prevent a government action thanks to your gun, don't you?
Guns were supposed to be a tool for the population to defend itself from the government if necessary.
That would make sense at a time when we fought with muskets. Today they have drones and tanks. Random dudes with AK-47s are not going to have a chance.
And look at any county that you want without that gun policy where the population has every right that they need. Guns wouldn't stop anything and it's silly to be afraid of that thing to begin with.
I don't know how any same person trusts the government after the past two years.
It's due to ignorance of history, even recent history.
Excellent point. As you know, it’s all about have control of others, people they don’t like and have dehumanized.
The reason it's not funny is how scary it is. Next stop: Zeig Heil!
I love guns and But can't have one here in the UK
I was a member of the police (Cop's) club so I could play with all types of guns
but that got stopped for control in the people
Actually yes, I do trust the government more with nukes than you with a handgun without adult supervision. How is this even a question? People are fucking dumb as rocks most of the time where as the government at least are semi-competent.
The same government that has experimented on black people with syphilis, ran mind control experiments with the CIA, started illegal wars under false pretenses, enacted illegal surveillance and also routinely ignores the constitution?
No way, I trust the citizenry far more. You're absolutely insane if you trust this evil government.
Yes. I trust the same government that has experimented on black people with syphilis, ran mind control experiments with the CIA, started illegal wars (Is that even a thing?) under false pretenses... with nukes more than I trust YOU with a crappy makarov. And this is not just you, I trust the government with all their bad qualities, with nukes, more than I trust the average American with ANY gun.. and that means I trust half of you EVEN LESS.
You are all irresponsible children when it comes to gun safety and guns in general. Why on earth would I trust you?
They can't do that while we have guns due. There have been cases in the USA where the government has actually backed down when firearms were involved.
But go ahead and pretend that being armed does nothing to deter the government xD Why do you think they want to disarm the populace so badly?
Law enforcement does not always operate under the direct direction of the government. They have a job. They do their job. If the government had told them directly to go fuck up the Bundies then they would not just sit around for a few days and then go home. They would employ what we in the industry call "excessive force".
Technically yes, but when we say "the government" we are not talking about public servants now are we? We are talking about the leadership, the people who actually direct and enact policies. Not the poor sods who has to record and preserve whatever tweet Donald Trump accidentally butt dialed that day. Those people are not the ones who direct police to do police business. If they did, then the police would drive the closes APC up the ass of the closest Bundy.
Does not have to be the military, but yeah. Do you think USA is somehow special and immune to their own military or another civil war? These things are perfectly in the power of the government IF THEY ACTUALLY WANTED TO. The fact that you have the naivety to think they could not is sickening to me.
You can show them exactly what happens and they will still insist that gun control is the way to go.
They have not learned from history.
Trusting gun nuts hasn’t gone well for us.
