Is this offensive or beneficial?

When a rich person gives pocket change to a poor person and saves their life. I heard people saying it’s offensive and egocentric and robs the poor guy of dignity.

It's because it's the juxtaposition that a rich person can at any point give up their wealth and have thousands of lives saved, but decide to only do so in order to have favor with the public. If you can make the world better by giving up your wealth (and live an average life), maybe you're obligated to do that and to only do so when it benefits you the most is at best worrying.
