Should Germany pay reparations to the families of all the prisoners that were murdered by the Nazis in WWII?

Question

You have most likely heard of the major concentration camps where people were murdered or worked to death. But do you know that over the years there has been research and there were some 40,000 killing sites documented. The Nazis even had one on British soil, the Channel Island of Guernsey at a place called Alderley, where prisoners were forced to build fortifications and then were basically murdered, by being starved to death or just shot or hanged. When they thought the island would be invaded by the Allies, they shot everyone, buried them in mass graves, and then burned all the evidence. And since the Nazis are associated with hate, as are the Confederates, shouldn't these people's relatives be given reparations? If not, then why do Blacks think they deserve reparations for a whole lot less that happened to their relatives?

Germany does pay reparations. on top of that Germany was spit in half by the soviet union and alliance during the cold war. The western alliance Germany took full responsibility of past actions but dosen't include soviet union controlled actions. And good luck getting a check from the soviet union.

Same can be said with the united states of America civil war. The northern union was the entirety of USA since July 4, 1776 then the Confederate traitors created a new government. From February 8, 1861 to April 9, 1865. Everything Confederate territory is responsible of their actions but good luck getting a check.

I'll even give another example all war time bonds USA ever made will be honored, all stolen property of the government will be confiscated and you finding it is assumed the one stolen it even if it's 200 years old.

This current United States of America government has payed its dues since July 4, 1776 living to the promises made with a constitution. If we for whatever reason do not live to our promises we should have reparations. Our constitution is only as good as our commitment to it. As the greatest and richest County to ever exist should be treated with respect.

Yes, if it was a relative of yours, you should get a "free" BMW. That is awful, they were ruthless thugs and I hope the ones doing the murdering got their justice long ago.

I think we learned our lesson in WWI that punishing the country too much resulted in more death. Weird how that works, but if you help people out... while controlling their sorry a$$sses so they aren't dangerous, then it works out a lot better.

At least for a while. Now that we blew up the Nordstream... ahemm, I mean, someonw blew it up, Germany goes down the path of suffering because they cannot produce their refined goods at a good cost. So they are going to pay the price for this war over time and it probably is not realistic for them to give you a BMW.

Germany has been paying out reparations under the Luxembourg Agreements for the past 70 years. They’ve paid the equivalent of 80 billion euros so far to victims and their heirs and are still paying out claims today. U. S. slaves should have been compensated after the war. Reparations are a formal acknowledgment of a wrong. Heirs are obviously owed what their descendants were denied. The problem here is that record keeping was shoddy back then regarding slaves and processing claims will be difficult. The U. S. government paid reparations for Japanese-American internments, a much lesser atrocity. Isn’t it past time to reckon with slavery?

Oh, fuck yes, baby. Germany owes us more than just an apology. They need to pay for all the lives they took, all the families they destroyed. They need to feel the weight of their sins on their cocks, and make it right with some good, hard fucking reparations. Germany probably got off way too easily for the crimes of WWII (note that reparations were paid to Israel only so Germany could rejoin the world community). But it does not make sense at this late date to push for reparations.

There is a lot of opposition in Germany to paying any further reparations, which stands in great contrast to its willingness to pay huge sums of money to house, feed, school and provide medical care to enormous numbers of fake asylum seekers.

Germany was made to pay reparation for both wars...

with the first one being so costly, that they kept paying reparations up till 2012 or something crazy like that...

now, if the Governments didn't implement some compensation for victims in those camps, that's another question... I don't think they did it

No. The damages were done to many people. Obviously the Jews, but also anybody who helped them. And whole towns were obliterated during the Nazi marches. So many more than just the Jews were slaughtered and maimed. So you want to hold the relatives of those Germans liable? Will you have those relatives be responsible for paying themselves? Will you have the British be liable because Nazis killed people on British soil?

They should have done that long ago. As with the issue of slavery reparations, I think if anyone is alive that was actually persecuted they should receive restitution. Family members who were not victims should not receive restitution. Restitution is for the actual victim, not their descendants. No one should receive restitution for crimes that were not committed against them.

Don’t they do that in Germany.. it’s for the survivor and their spouse. Which is really redundant because the spouse will probably be a survivor anyway.. I’ve often wonder why blacks weren’t given reparations, but I think it’s because it’s happened over a long time and no survivors and it’s not like the had their own career/Bussiness going then suddenly it was taken from being captured in a camp. Then we could keep going further and further back until everybody is paying reparations because that's where this can go if you keep digging in the past. Genocide victims deserve reparations, but what do you suggest? how will it be applied to whom? And who will make and enforce these penalties? What is the value of a human life?

As someone who lost half my family in a genocide, money reparations will not bring them back, nor will it soothe my soul. So, how can this be applied?
