So as Americans we have Freedom of speech and expression. Really this should mean we tolerate differences of opinion, differences of religion, style, and culture without the fear of persecution.

Both conservatives and liberals have a love-hate relationship with it.

Transgenders get to act like freaks, and people can display the stupidest shit and we gotta deal with it.

On the other hand, people can openly be racist, spread misinformation, and lies and not be persecuted as well.

If I was influential enough, I can start convincing people that pedophilia or some other crazy shit should be legal, and not be a criminal.

Joining a gang like the Bloods or Crips isn’t illegal because of the freedom of expression. However, if you commit a crime you’ll get a harsher sentence.

The way Germany deals with its Nazi past, is that any public displays of Swastikas are illegal. Supportive actions or statements towards Hitler is illegal, and holocaust denial is illegal. If you had a relative who served, you may privately own their uniform.

Honestly, we should do that here for the Confederate flags.

No. No, we should not. We should encourage the believers in horrible ideologies to express them openly, that they may questioned and, hopefully, reexamined. You do MUCH better when you know who the hateful people are. Beyond that- it's a very small leap from banning this:

You're leaving out that Germany also selectively uses the accusation of Nazism as a catch-all to persecute their political enemies, similar to the mindless overuse of "racism" here in the US, but with actual legal rammifications. If you had a public platform and spoke out against the EU violating the sovereignty of Germany or any other member nation, Merkel's thugs would throw you in jail. They've somewhat cut back on this lately due to trying to justify supporting Ukraine, but that would likely return as soon as that war ends, one way or another.
