Do men make better leaders?

This is actually a pretty interesting question. So time to research, here’s what I found.
“Women's brains are definitely different from men's brains," said Apostolos. "What we have found is that women, in many different tasks, process information about five times faster than men, and use much less of their brain to do identical cognitive performance” - cbc news (Neuroscientists explore differences in male, female brains)
“In a huge study of over 600,000 people, the data obtained showed that men tend to be more analytical and 'systemic' while women tend to be more emotional and empathetic” - The cosmic shambles network (Male and Female Brain Differences – Must We Keep Doing This?)
“Men have stronger connections between brain areas for motor and spatial skills. That means males tend to do a better job at tasks that need hand-eye coordination and understanding where objects are in space” - Web md (Are Male and Female Brains Different?)
“Girls tend to mature a little faster than boys, developing language skills sooner and giving them the edge over boys in reading, writing, and speech. While boys are lagging behind girls on writing assignments, they are often ahead in math and science“ - Teacher Lists (How Do Boys and Girls Learn Differently?)
”Although the male brain is 10 percent larger than the female brain, it does not impact intelligence” - nm. org (Battle of the Brain: Men Vs. Women)
“our data shows that women are more logical than men, at least before they get older. Women scored an average of 63% in our logical reasoning tests, compared with an average of 59% for men” - Practice Aptitude Tests (Who is Smarter - Men or Women?)
“It is documented in the literature that the muscle contraction time is the same for males and females[18] and motor responses in males are comparatively stronger than females,[19] this explains why males have faster simple RTs for both auditory as well as visual stimuli” -National Library of Medicine (A comparative study of visual and auditory reaction times on the basis of gender and physical activity levels of medical first year students)
“Numerous studies show subtle differences in male and female behavior and in cognitive functions, too. Men tend to be more aggressive and outperform women on mental tasks involving spatial skills such as mental rotation, whereas women tend to be more empathetic and perform better on verbal memory and language tasks” -The guardian (Male brain versus female brain: How do they differ?)
Those are all I had time for at the moment. Just to put it out there I found these excerpts so people could form their opinions on this question from actual facts. Here it is and feel free to add evidence or point out if I cited something wrong.
Most of the time they do. Because they have more testosterone than estrogen. They’re not influenced by emotion. Like a woman.
A woman can be a good Leader too, but she will need to be surrounded by men to get more insight and good decision making. Because the fact is that women can be influenced by emotion more than logic. And that’s a problem. A liability.
That woman would have to take testosterone or be pumped with testosterone to think more logically than emotionally. This is just Biology. So if you find offense to this. Im sorry you feel that way. But reality and truth.. governs feelings.
Note, Im not saying women can't be logical. We are mothers, we have to protect our young. But in general a woman will always put emotion and feelings in the forefront unlike a man. The good thing about women is that we have more EMPATHY and SYMPATHY when those are truly needed.
You also need someone of a very high IQ and experience to be a leader. So that is another factor. Even a woman of an extremely high IQ will still be governed by the hormone ESTROGEN
You know for all you women complaining about “patriarchy” in the comments. Listen to this: good men will respect and follow effective female leaders who do not make a big deal about being women.
Just quit the gender identity bullshit. Men look at the world more objectively and we are about logic and getting things done. Most of us don’t look at work and our relationships with colleagues as some sort of necessary “social” bonding experience or some crap. When it comes to work, objectives, etc we care about results.
If a women are good leaders then they should naturally obtain positions of leadership and should come as no surprise to anybody. “Glass ceiling” my ass. Especially in the 2020s.
I am all for empowerment and encouraging women to be in positions of leadership. But there is a major difference when comes to giving a woman an opportunity vs. thrusting her into positions of power she is under qualified for just in the name of Marxist “equity” (yes I know the difference between “equity” and “equality”).
Also men have no built in cushion to fall back on when we are in positions to leadership (especially if we aren’t “intersectional”). If we screw up it’s on us. We can’t use sexism as an excuse to deflect criticism for our shortcomings (even though sexism against men definitely exists in modern society but that’s another debate)
So what happens is men are face more trial by fire processes when we are put in leadership positions. We have to work harder, think harder and take responsibility for our mistakes. We can’t take personally either. We can’t show our emotions (publicly). On our option is to be tough, pragmatic yet interpersonally skilled to be effective leaders.
This ultimately makes men better leaders. We already know nobody is going to feel sorry for us if we fail. So it forces us to be the best we can when we get in leadership positions.
If women really want to be respected by men (and other women) they need to accept all the harsh reality, trials and criticism the same way men do and make zero excuses for their shortcomings. Some women can do this but most can’t in my opinion.
No, they are too greedy like the Biden's and Clinton's. I mean they may start out good because of hardships like Marcus Aurelius, but they always put their family firsts even if their family isn't best suited for the job. Commodus Aurelius Marcus Aurelius son was an awful leader. He did not know what he was doing, but Marcus wanted Commodus to be the future heir. Commodus was an idiot who wasted too much money and did not have the same values Marcus.
The Roman republic Worked better because you did not have one person's absolute power. So it's better without emperors, kings, and presidents in charge. It's good to have a group of people with equal power who can speak up when someone steps out of line. A man might not like a woman being a boss, but it's good for him so he won't step out of line. Again men and women random people who can come to an agreement that works.
With men, it's too much pride. Same with women. You should have a group of people that so that way no one gets too much power.

I think either as long as they prove themselves through leading. DEI is pushing people not because they can do the job but because of their identity which isn't doing anyone any favors.
Like historically men have led better, but it's a false statement to say jane will lead more poorly than john at y company when you don't know what meritorious deeds either of them have done at that company.
Better leaders for what? An NFL football team? A daycare center? A fashion design house?
I have worked many jobs in many different fields, including military and law enforcement. I have found that both men and women make either excellent or crappy leaders, about evenly. I have found that the sex of a leader is irrelevant.
My absolute favorite boss is a woman. She is one of my sergeants at the jail I work at. She is fair, firm and consistent. She goes out of her way to help her officers. She jumps in the fray when needed. If I make a mistake, she does not go straight to putting it on paper. She talks me through the situation and uses my mistakes as a way to develop my growth as an officer instead of simply writing me up and telling me to never do it again. She develops me as a leader and makes me think about what I am doing instead of just taking charge and barking orders.
The next best leader I ever met was my Master Chief (E9) in the Navy. The only reason my Correction's Sergeant takes the top prize for excellent leader over my Master Chief was because I did not interact much with my Master Chief. However, when I did interact with him, I noticed he was ALWAYS doing what is best for his sailors. There were days where he did not go home for 3-4 days at a time to be with his family because he was so determined to help us out, even when that level of commitment was not required. He viewed all sailors under him as his own sons and daughters and would go out of his way to help us. He was the reason I left the Navy with an Honorable Discharge when I deserved an OTH discharge for how I acted with another superior.
I think its over all hard to say and it will be honestly very spasfic per a person
I do think history so far show us that some man where great leaders and so where some woman
I do belive overall there more storys of man being better leaders in the human race, fact is therre where more of them as they push them self to it, and I think its a lot that man are less picky in who they friend and connect with and woman are more picky on it, selecting qrulity over qruantity but on that over all having less support
But its hard to say as history is written by the winners
And Moms are freaking amazing leaders, even that in some cases that fathers are better
So over all it ends up that I dont think its to do with the sex but the person them self that really picks who makes a better leader
Speaking purely from personal experience with both, I think men generally dominate the extremes of both good and bad leadership, but sometimes people who excel at being a leader in one capacity aren't necessarily going to be good as a leader in a different field, or at a higher level. I had five different commanding officers in the military, and while I could rank them by favoritism, they had significant differences in what they were objectively good and bad at.
One consistent quality with female leaders though, is the ones who have raised kids are almost always better than the ones who haven't. It's mainly because they have a better grasp on what is or isn't actually important, are better at calling out bullshit when they see it, and more willing to make hard decisions.
With men, the only consistency really is that a lot more men want to be in charge, which isn't necessarily good or bad.
I think that they do, on average. Obviously at the individual level you will have some great ones and some terrible ones, but overall I think that men are built with the toughness, the focus, and the stamina to fight the world day after day after day compared to the average woman.
Again, there are individual women who do a great job too. That's more the exception than the rule, though. Most women don't really WANT all of the work and pressure that comes with those jobs, which is why most don't choose to pursue them.
Usually. That is all. Women are simply not "usually" put through the trials and tribulations that make someone wise and in a place (mind state) of good leadership skills... in the mind. Probably why so many of them that do find themselves in a position of power usually end up being completely useless and achieve nothing, a megalomaniac (bossy as fuck for no reason), or they just break under the pressure.
So when asked this question I'm not going to say "all women" because there are exceptions to the rule, but exceptions don't make the rule of thumb. Same with the dudes... some dudes are absolute shit and even getting their own shit together. Ask me about that and I'll shit on dudes. Seems like most of the failure dudes don't get the basic shit that pretty much most women just seem to handle.
I guess it depends leading what and how, a definition of a good leader is different for everyone. Men come over as having more authority and dominating then women on general, not to say it’s true but that’s a simple fact and women are in my opinion more cunning and greater planner among other things. Both sides prevail at certain things better then the other, both have qualities that are unique more prevalent in their own sex then the other. To really say “men make better leaders” is in my opinion a little unfair to women who try to lead nowadays, mosty because society for the most part of history has seen it inherently something males do while they saw women as more submissive / supporting in their attempts to lead. I think both sexes can lead well, just depends on the person and their qualities. And without women we wouldn’t have these leaders anyway, after all you all literally have the ability to give life. 🤷♂️
Given the fact that according to an analysis conducted, the nations were 38.8% more likely to go to war when under the leadership of the queens, I can conclude that the kings may not be ideal rulers but they sure as hell knew how to maintain a diplomatic environment. Thus peace in one form or the other. And hence the proof of a good leadership, if not better.
Someone pretty important said this-
If you want to know what needs to be done, ask a woman. If you want to know what needs to be spoken, ask a man.
I don't remember who it was but it was a woman who said it.
Here is the link for the analysis-
https://www.ancient-origins.net/news-general/warlike-queens-0012861
Most often they do. Currently, women who are leaders are just as war-mongering, and in-competent as their male counterparts (in most countries).
Besides politics, men are more assertive and make decisions quicker usually for regular leadership such as management, as well as how they treat their employees.
The managers/CEOs who have micromanaged me, were mean, and wanted control over everything with little autonomy have been women. Management consisted of men who were not like this.
Women are highly prevalent in Marketing, and I have dealt with more of them than men as well. The men are less frugal in regard to budgeting and are direct with their communication as opposed to passive-aggressive behavior from women management.
I don't have anything against women as leaders, it is my personal experience.
I couldn't stand the one female leader we had, it was a construction field. She always acted nice in front of us, but was so 2 faced and lied behind our backs. She felt that if there was an accident or a mess up people where at fault, and their need to be an investigation to figure out why ot happen, so it never happen again. She didn't come from our field of expertise, they pulled her from another area. She talk about how we had to take care of each other, but she was ready to crucified us. She was so 2 face.
No, I think its down to the individual, Its take a unique individual to be a leader. there are great leaders in both genders.
I don't think men and women can really compare each other to many things in life, I think men and women can achieve the same amount things, only except for physical strength, and maybe sports, other than that, if came just using your brain, men and women are equal.
It's irrelevant.
Leadership requires certain things that some have and sone don't.
One big thing is not having a chip on your shoulder and insecurity that people don't take you seriously, unfortunately in most cases today women come into these positions with that mentality and so they fail creating this narrative that women are poor leaders
I think it depends on scale. I think the type of empathy women have works better on smaller scale because you pay attention to everyone and how they feel, like squad leader. But you can't be concerned with how everyone under you feels as general. There maybe a colder heart is helpful.
Look around the world and our history. Do you think that women could not have done a better job? I mean, I dont particularly think either gender is better in this regard but its hard to make things worse so to speak so it always confuses me when people think men make good leaders.
I'm not sure of that. However, in my experience women put a lot of their social friendships and cliques at the fore, and this tends to influence their decision making.
The place I work at has a lot of female managers, and it seems to be okay. Same human frailties and ego issues as the male managers. Some are okay, some are lazy, some are not so okay.
When I look to the right of me or down in my office... then yes :D
Not so much because women generally can't, but more because individual upbringing more often than not prefers to raise boys into taking charge (and responsibility) than training girls into ''having the bite''.
After all... ''men'' (in average) are predominantly shaped by the visions of their mothers...
''aetsch baetsch''
Most women are like dead fish, going with the flow.
They don't have any original thoughts, they just latch on to the most "popular" ideas.
They're not trail-blazers, men have always been, which makes us way better leaders.
There is such a high correlation between sociopathic tendencies and CEOs that I have to say yes, statistically men are "Better" than women at this, though outliers obviously exist, it's just when a man is a psycho his behaviour is encouraged in the business world, when a woman is she's labelled a troublesome c***.
I have seen both men and women that were excellent leaders. In the military I dealt with mostly men as leaders. But in the construction industry I enjoyed working around women more. They knew how to work their resources. Men on the other hand are more greedy about how to get the job done and who they run over.
No I don't believe they do, there is just many more men having that position. Many women have already proven that they can be very effective leaders.
Like who? They get that position because they make better leaders. Why do so many of us women have a chip on our shoulder? Why are people so blind to accept truths about men and women.
Just like we make better mothers/caregivers, they make better leaders.
For instance just in government we had Sander Day O'Conner, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Condoleezza Rice, Madeleine Albright from government, then we have Mary Barra who leads, General Motors or Rosalind Brewer or even Melinda Gates as some very capable leaders.
Everything is built and maintained by men. Men are better generally even I recognise that as a woman.
Melinda gates is in the shadow of her man she would be a nobody without bill.
@katiesmuff - name one effective leader. Not one major company that is successful has a female leader.
Mary Barra & General Motors that you mentioned is in the pits, just locally they sold three of their factories to Chinese investors within the last 12 months if that's successful cows can fly. Melinda Gates & Rosalind Brewer alike would be a 2 bit nobody that no one would care about if it wasn't for her husband or their family / marriage connections.
All three are women who have done NOTHING on their own and ALL have ridden on the coattails of SUCCESSFUL men.
As for the politicans you named they're as bad or worse than the three clowns. If you want to mention a female politican of clot and not a laughing stock then mention people like Margaret Thatcher even if UK she's still far more impressive than the comedy acts of female politicans in America.
@Nbffjk I highly doubt you'd have the balls to call your mother weak. Or your grandmother weak. Or a woman who has served in the military weak.
You after all are pathetically weak as a keyboard warrior who has to name call someone a "fat lump" when they said nothing to you. Weakling.
@Nbffjk Guess that is your opinion from an uneducated whining little prick who is nothing more than a speck of dog shit in this world
I'm not going to say that women make better leaders than men. I honestly don't think gender determines who will be a good leader. Women can be good leaders, and men can, but they can also be bad leaders. Honestly, I don't think Hillary would have been a good leader, but I don't think she would have been as bad as Trump turned out to be.
If you're talking about Heads of state and warfare/aggression fo men, there is little evidence to suggest that women are any less warmongering than men. Some of the most evil men in history were backed by an evil mother and an evil wife.
We're not as emotionally driven. Women tend to bring more drama into leadership. Don't just take my word for it--here's what a woman herself wrote: https://www.mercer.us/our-thinking/career/women-in-leadership-sometimes-were-our-own-worst-enemies.html
well, not all of us fit that mold.
When it comes to leadership, gender is irrelevant. I’ve seen good male leaders and not so good male leaders. Same with women. When it comes to bosses, managers, etc, I evaluate their character and how well (or not so well) they lead.
If we're going on history, then absolutely. Men leading got us where we are today. The greatest the West has ever been. More opportunities and rights than there has ever been.
The greatest the west has been, you’re kidding me right lol.
No, it's a fact. Across the board, we have more opportunities than we've ever had. Women have equal opportunity in the workplace and in education, which they didn't have even just 50-60 years ago.
Technologically we're leaps and bounds from even 10 years ago, to the point we have absolutely incredible technology available to just about everyone. You're insane if you don't understand how good we have things now.
Yes i think they make better leaders such as work, home etc but I am not saying that women cannot be good leaders too because we can but yeah :)
Yes it is, because if you asking why women are already loosing from their emotional side, they can't able to take right option for critic times their emotional side coming more heavier, also another reason they have huge ego they can't able to think well in that time...
Who shafts you most often, most badly and openly? Plus enjoys doing it. Well that would be the HR bitch most of the time wouldn't it?
I rest my case.
Men are better at most things (not all men, but the majority are better) especially at being caregivers effective/successful single parents and teachers.
I feel it depends but somewhat true because if you got a good leading man and a good leading woman I feel the man would be better however if you have a bad leading man and a bad leading woman then I feel the man would be even worse of a leader than the woman. Hopefully that made Sense.
Well like everything not every man, but in general I would say you got a better chance. Leaders should be fair not emotional.
If they make better leaders then why do so many people die in the wars they start?
@haha456 My friend is British and she said the last female president there almost ran the economy to the ground and got kicked out.
@haha456 it’s scientifically proven that men think more logically and rationally and are even more intelligent. The whole world is built by men and maintained still by men.
Do you research. Women make better caregivers and nurture a lot better than men.
Men and women compliment each other in different ways. Exceptions don’t disprove the rule.
@kathie93
If men were so logical and rational, why would they be so angry and start wars? aren't there better ways to resolve conflict? Anger and rage is also an emotion. Killing people does not make you a good leader. Take a look at what is happening now in ukraine and iraq.
you're talking as if there are no male presidents or prime ministers who tank the economy. This is not male or female thing. Anyone of any gender can tank the economy
I can easily tell you're a misogynist who thinks women should never work but stay in the kitchen all day
@haha456
Men are better at understanding and problem solving. That’s what I said. They’ve literally made everything you take for granted. Without men how would we have transport systems?
You’re an airy fairy idiot. You think compassion is all it takes? Men start wars because countries breech securities etc…. If women took over I don’t think anything would get done and everything would colapse.
We owe our life to what men have done. They have designed the world which has made it so comfortable for us.
I’m not surprised there’s a war in Ukraine, it’s a country that isn’t NATOs territory. NATO has breeched agreements made in the past, so you can’t actually say that putin is a monster for all this.
@kathie93
there's no evidence men are better at understanding and problem solving.
if men were so good at problem solving and understanding each other then THERE WOULD BE NO WARS.
[I’m not surprised there’s a war in Ukraine, it’s a country that isn’t NATOs territory. NATO has breeched agreements made in the past, so you can’t actually say that putin is a monster for all this.]
if your other male leaders were so "understanding", they wouldn't have breeched NATO territory in the first place.
truth is, men operate off of emotion, anger, aggression and greed, NOT LOGIC OR PROBLEM SOLVING
Putin is a monster. He is only attacking an innocent country ukraine because he feels intimidated by NATO's growing superpower. He can't stand the fact that his country is growing unpopular.
[You’re an airy fairy idiot. You think compassion is all it takes? Men start wars because countries breech securities etc…. If women took over I don’t think anything would get done and everything would colapse.]
Nothing was breeched. NObody threatened putin. He chose to start the war becasue he chose power and control over humanity.
[We owe our life to what men have done. They have designed the world which has made it so comfortable for us.]
and we women give up our careers, dreams to give birth to and raise children. We , women, are the single mothers who birth and raise the next generation of men. Without the work of women, there will be no men. There will be no next generation.
Your father didn't have to suffer 9 months of grueling pregnancy and then a torturous birth to give you life. Your father didn't have to give up his career promotions to raise you.
show some respect
@haha456
‘A study undertaken by The University of Cambridge has revealed that women are the more empathetic sex, while men are more analytical and logical.’
Not my words.
The university of Cambridge is also like a Harvard equivalent in the UK.
@kathie93
Men are emotional beings. Just because men have a higher chance of being logical an analytical, it does not mean men are not emotional. All humans operate on ego, emotion. It explains why Putin went into killing Ukraine for no valid reason. There was no threat to him. He operated off of fear and ego. He wanted power and control.
Plus, not all women are emotional. Not all men are logical. I have met plenty of men more emotional than me throughout my lifetime.
No, a leader has to have leadership qualities. It's not gender-specific.
I had a female store manager and she was amazing. After she left, we had a male manager and ran our store to the ground. Corporate fired him and he left in tears 😂
Why are you laughing at someone else’s misfortune. I’m saying generally, not extreme circumstances.
I guess it would depend on the situation, you put me to lead a beauty pageant and I'll unintentionally destroy it
Sometimes, under some circumstances. But there is no doubt that Margaret Thatcher was the best man for the job.
All we know is men are in positions of leadership more traditionally. We don't know for sure who is better because there's no easy way of measuring this.
if women made better leaders "for profit" companies would have figured this out and installed them as leaders so they could make more money
So true. These corporations literally don't care about anything but money. As they are clearly for profit. It is their job lol.
So yes, 💯
Refreshing logic. Same thing about women's pay. If women did the same job but for less money, our work force would be entirely women in the highest paid positions. Business would be tripping overthemselves to only hire women.
@bamesjond0069 Yeah!
I think in some things, yes they do. However, in other ways, Women are better.
No. The specific 'real leader' personality type is just more common among men.
Most of the time but obviously there are exceptions.
Men have always lead throughout history, and many women have lead as well.
Nowadays. They both lead together.
This depends on the personality. It does not depend on gender.
It's mostly true though in Australia Pauline Hanson is the only Politian with the balls to say things that need to be said.
Nah, I’ll take direction from anyone regardless of gender if they aren’t assholes, have good experience and knowledge in that situation, and the direction makes sense.
If they're not stupid and biased towards a specific type of woman or something, then sure, I think men make great leaders
In the vast majority of cases, they do. Doesn't mean women can't be good leaders. It's just less likely.
Everything we have today from roads , cars trains, planes, to medical equipment, houses etc thanks to men is it perfect no but it's start. Now women can come help no longer asked to housewives
Its best not to stereotype people on base of gender. Anyone who can knows and can guide better be considered as one. Leader to be chosen depends from situation to situation.
Stupidity does not ask gender. I have seen very dumb men and women. Also seen smart women -I could easily work for them, i have no problem with that.
This ho honestly doesn't depend on gender. It de. pends on the mentality of the individual and their ability to resist letting the power/status change them.
It's long over do for the USA to have their first female USA President.
@GoodGuyBreakingBad What are your thoughts on Nikki Haley?
Good/ Bad/ Neutral?
@Jamie05rhs I like Nikki Haley, she should be given a chance.
@GoodGuyBreakingBad Cool! Thanks for sharing your views!
@Jamie05rhs You're welcome, my friend !
Yes. Because women don't care as much and men tend to be problem solvers and assertive.
every male lead i had, fucked everything up. or didn't do shit. so no, they don't make better leaders.
i've also dealt with too many male leaders who were sexist and piled all the work on the one female employee they had. or expected them to go over and beyond as everyone else sat around. fuck them.
Of course!! Not all me. But men in general of course!! When there’s a problem I cry and my husband fixes it I follow him it would be foolish for him to follow me
Leaders for what? Grocery stores? Job sites? Sports teams? Your question isn’t clear. To lead people in any situation needs more description. A man can’t lead his family so there’s a start to your vague question
If we were better leaders, there wouldn't be 2 world wars, a 3rd one knocking on the door, not to mention the not just one genocide.
It all depends on their leadership skills. A woman can be a better leader than some men if they have the right skills
