Why does it seem like nowadays people want to be brutally honest than respecting the feelings of the person they are brutal with?

Ever since Donald Trump left office it feels that more people value being brutal with people they hate than respecting the feelings of those they disagree with and have different beliefs than them. It also like seems more people care more about riling up and scoring points against the people they oppose than trying to compromise, being diplomatic, and trying to persuade people to your side or at least defending your principles in a respectful way.

Trump was far and away the most divisive President ever because he's obsessed with himself and demanding absolute loyalty. So he split everyone. He resorted to middle school insults and many of his followers take on the same personality. There should be an attempt by any President to unify everyone and he simply was against that. Divisiveness is the worst trait a President can have. But what you are talking about did not begin when he left office. He started it before he took office.
