I'm a university student getting my degree in history and I plan to either become a criminal defense attourney or a historian, I live in one of the most expensive places in the country and yet the people of the country look down on guys who are unable to afford a place on their own. How do you expect me to get a place on my own while close to getting my B. A while jobs I can only qualify for with my associates degree can only get me jobs that pay like $15 to $20 per hour.

I'd rather live with my parents who I take care of and vice versa who gives me a free place to live while I play my games and enjoy myself than be homeless. Lots of guys when they turn 18 randomly decide to move out of their parents homes and end up homeless, some sons parents are dicks and r adonly kick their son out at 18, it's an ugly blight in western culture if you ask me.

Because some people think once you're an adult you somehow automatically have to do everything for yourself. My parents could've put me on my own if they wanted to. But they didn't because they know I'm not ready to leave the nest yet. I do like helping out my parents though while I live at home, much like you do. Plus, it helps prepare me more for independent living. But it costs so much for people to even live on their own these days, so I find it odd how it's looked down upon. To me that's considered normal.

Like you referenced when you ended your question. It's "western culture". We are a society that's built on personal liberty and personal success. But reality tells us success almost never happens over night. So we all have to pay our dues before we get there. And only a few of us will EVER get there. Women are taught throughout history to get themselves a successful man and this permeates thier selection. The women who put deeper weight in this will skip the selection process and just get themselves a sugar daddy. The others have to make choices. And since women are notoriously BAD decision makers most of time they're going to choose the fools gold. They're going to pick the guys with the best overall package. The guy who seems independent because he LOOKS like a go getter, only to find out he's working without a plan.

I wouldn't worry about it dude. You're going to turn off a lot of women with the appearance of your current situation. But the ones you're turning of are the wrong types of women anyhow. These women will always male bad decisions. And that's better for you anyhow. It's always better to have fewer options, but quality options. Than to have many options and a majority of them be bad.

Yeah, people are stupid. Those people who give others shit for living at home past 18 have NO idea how much it cost to live in the real world. I've been out on my own for quite some time and then I lived with an aunt for a while, and now I'm back on my own again, and the average place to rent around here for a 1-bedroom apartment is $800, I spend $100 for food for just 12 items maybe.

The analyst figured this out one day. A single person, no family, a single person alone would have to make $21 an hour just to get by. These recent elected presidential officials we've had recently have done NOTHING to help the cost of living. One, all he worried about is building a Goddam wall to keep put illegals, and the other one, his mind is elsewhere.

Even though George W. Bush was kind of out there, at least he signed those bills to help all those businesses that went under back in 2008. With these last couple of guys, everyone is on their own!

Next time someone says something to you, tell them "Some of us have to work for what we have, and I work my ass off for very little". People piss me off too! You're not alone!

My son just got his first permanent apartment a few weeks ago at 25.

He had several temporary apartments while being post-secondary schooled.

Now was the right time for him.

He received his post graduate schooling, advanced certification in his field, and a year of having his career begin, to save quickly for a good start in life and then, there he went, he's doing it, he's flown the nest.

I haven't seen or heard of anyone giving him any shit.

My son wouldn't have cared if someone did.

And that's the thing about it, really.

We might as well let stuff slide, like water off a duck's back.

Will your degree in history allow you to stay there or are you going to have to move to a lower cost of living area? People where I live would just give you shite for living somewhere you can't afford, nothing to do with being with your parents, so if the answer is "yes" then I don't think I know too many people that'd give you shite for it. If you're going to be making $50k in L. A. then that's why they'd give you shite for it because you might as well move to a part of the country you can afford... lest you still be living with them in 10 years.

To be 27 and live at home would be incredibly rare in much of the country, so it depends on who you're asking (online or in real life).

I did not know they did? I lived at home, with my parents blessing, until I finished my military commitment, and college graduation. As soon as I graduated, I moved and took a full time job, and never had to move back. I was in my 20's at the time.

At 18 where I am from, as long as you're still in school, you're still very young 🤣. I remember my mum taking me to School at 18. But for most dropouts, by 18 they're trying to earn a living. Where I come from, you can go back to your parents home, but you have to live by the rules of that household or leave and enjoy your "independence" in your own place.

I think its OK if you have a clear plan to get out of the home. What most people object to is those who never grow up and end up living with their parents indefinitely.

Also, older people may remember a time when college students lived in dorms and those were affordable. I expect they are not now

I dunno. There is nothing wrong with it in my eyes. Better to have yourself financially ready to be on your own than struggle. My ex lived at home and it wasn't a big deal. He commuted to a college in the city we live in and made sense to save money and live with his parents. I had zero issue with it. Don't listen to what others say about that. Not worth your time. Living with your parents may not be acceptable in western countries. But living with parents is common in India. Some sons live with their parents and some don't. In India, if you don't live with your parents and don't take care of them, then you are considered as a bad son.

If you’re still living with your parents and don’t have your B. A. by age 27, it tells people you don’t have your shit together. It shows lack of ambition and that you must have wasted years of your life being unproductive. I wouldn’t date a guy still living with his parents at that age. I’m looking for a more independent and goal oriented partner. Sorry but just being honest here and I think a lot of people would view it the same way.
