Well, this has spread to California and has now gone across other states like Illinois who is now forcing their landlords to rent to undocumented immigrants. It's very crazy In my opinion because right now as we speak many Americans can't even afford RENT In today's inflation and economy. Yet Americans are pushed out of housing and the homeless rates are growing.

Vets & Americans are now ignored, and the vouchers they deserve are going to the undocumented. Even in places with big Metro cities, they have turned the programs off got Americand and switched them on for undocumented. Yet we have homeless literally stationed infront of the white house just a few blocks away & our politicians are more worried about people breaking the law and coming here illegally & housing them & not suffering tax paying Americans.

How does It make you feel knowing this?

Unacceptable. I can think of several reasons it’s not a good idea to rent to illegal immigrants. Primarily if they wreck the place. Getting compensation will be next to impossible.

@goaded No forcing somebody to rent to somebody he does not want to rent to. Most landlords I have had wanted some kind of reference and wanted first and last month's rent.
I know a guy who got stiffed by his tenant and he talked to his lawyer about what to do. The lawyer told him to offer the tenant a thousand dollars to move out. He said it will be much cheaper in the long run.

In NYC the government was paying hotels to house illegals.. they made sure to offer the hotels $100 extra per day above what hotels get for housing veterans so naturally the hotels kicked out all of the vets in favor of illegals. If things keep going the way they are, I expect there to be a tax revolt one day.

In some places it's illegal. I don't know how widespread that is. It's a double edge sword though, and from what I've read it's not recommended for landlords to do it.

Unless the government is paying the rent, the illegals have little incentive to pay it since elites and their foot soldiers will protect them from facing the consequences. And government often pays these days. In addition, if they trash the place or damage it, they can always go somewhere else and start the cycle again.

When I was in El Salvador, I met a number of people there who had lived in the US illegally and left unpaid debts there.

I'm not sure how it's going to play out logistically though, because I only rent to people that can provide proof of liquidity and income, and if their employer isn't checking their employment eligibility with the feds that can be a very expensive mistake for them.

We've already got a serious shortage of housing. The vacancy rate is extremely low right now. It's causing housing prices to skyrocket. Which in turn causes property taxes to skyrocket. This type of politically correct legislation will only cause it to get worse. Probably a lot of landlord will simply quit being landlords, making the vacancy rate even lower and prices even higher.

When you say "forced to rent to undocumented immigrants" you mean that they can't check immigration status before renting. They can always choose not to rent their property. Anyone who leases out property has to deal with regulations that prevent a wide range of discrimination

Honestly I have less of an issue with it than some might. American homelessness is absolutely an issue, but I believe that all people should be able to find proper housing, including immigrants. I think there are other more important measures to address American homelessness than what housing should be available to immigrants.

And they're not mutually exclusive. People are working towards solutions for American homelessness, it's just an insanely complex issue that's actually really hard to address.
