BASICALLY: What is a small town? He’s comparing inner city violence to small town life.

Fine that’s country music. But that is a bit racist…especially when small rural towns are where more violent crimes happen.

Finally let me blow your mind and compare Chicago crimes to Birmingham Alabama. Boom:

Birmingham has a rate 20.5 per 1000 people, Chicago has 8.7. Obviously because it’s 20x the population but it’s not more violent than small towns.

Seriously. Look this up yourselves. Crime stats per 1000 people are best to compare with small towns. Crime rates I’ve seen are usually double Chicago…PER 1000 people, mind you. So that’s a chance of how likely you are to be a victim of crime.

I live in an outside town in Washington state 3,453 most are native Yakima we have a few biracial folk like my brother. (You would call him black but that’s a white supremacy/progressive term) we have whites a few black black natives, We got a racial diversity here in this town. You steal from our convenient stores you get your knocked out you burn some Radom building you get knocked out, you hit our bartender you’re not waking up. Just looked up eastern Washington and randomly picked a small town. Pendleton OR.
35.7 out of 1000 residents for all crime. Chicago is 20.7 out of 1000. Boom.

Pendleton also has one of the major prison in Washington and Oregon. Most prisoners once released tend to stay there and try to get jobs in the area. Also has one of the countries major casinos that Hoast professional poker tournament (Pendleton is about 125 miles away from me going east) Pendleton also has a population of roughly about 17,107 vs Chicago has 2,746,388 so Pendleton by the amount of people living, there is going to have a higher crime rate, but there’s a lot more crime in Chicago when you actually even it out.

Also, of course you’re going to have a greater crime rate for 1000 in a small town because there less people which drive up the statistics. There’s more meth in seattle then in Goldendale but there more meth per 1000 people because there only 3,453 people vs 737,015. There’s more people who use meth in Seattle but because of the per thousand rate you’re going to get a higher percentage in a smaller town. Say there 345 people who use meth in goldendale thats 10% but you have 70,001 people using meth in seattle that’s still 10% (I don’t know that the actual amount of meth users in Seattle the per 1000 people is just statics. I might get some heat for this reply but… I’ve been a small town girl my entire life and I don’t hear anything racist in this song. The video yeah, maybe a little much. Maybe I don’t understand all the hidden meanings in the lyrics. Maybe crime per capita isn’t that different, yeah we have shit that happens in my small town, there are whack jobs everywhere. But I don’t have to worry about going to the store or sending my kids to school everyday the reality of it is if someone pulled out a gun and started shooting up the public there would be at least three others carrying concealed who’d happily stop the shooter without hesitation preventing mass casualties. See this is part of the problem. Our country is large and populated. When I looked at your link above I only see Urban and Suburban, did I over look Rural America?
The definition of small town varies person to person, I live in the largest county in my state with a total population of 7,495 looking at our county jail roster we have 7 inmates that is 0.09% of the counties population. Funny thing is anytime I look at the roster it’s almost always the same dumbasses. Yes crime happens but I couldn’t even tell you when the last murder happened here.
We can look at statistics and see what we want to see but should we really judge without looking at the picture entirely?
I don’t pretend to know everything, this is just my perspective coming from rural America, can you understand why I don’t see anything wrong with this song?
