8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Not much honestly. I mean for starters, "modern" does not really apply to feminism in the first place. It is something people keep applying to it when they oversimplify the movement. It is far more useful to think of feminism in terms of "waves" although that is also somewhat of an oversimplification.
Personally, I find people who talk about "Modern Feminism" just to be sore losers who tries to get around the fact that they lost the culture war against feminism by rebranding "Feminism" into "Modern Feminism" and arguing that feminism is not what it used to be and is worse today in an attempt to undermine the actual movement.
Its kinda like applying the strawman argument but against a whole social movement.
So no. I dont think much of "Modern Feminism" outside of when someone brings it up to try discredit feminism today for no good reason.00 Reply

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yI support what original feminism fought for, but I don't call myself a feminist because I feel like the movement has gone off the rails. It feels like now it's more about hating men, trying to find reasons to call women victims, and judging women who choose to be different than they are. That's not what feminism was about and I don't support any of it.

Opinion Owner+1 y@Soteris I see evidence that many feminists hate men all the time. I don't know how anyone can deny that fact. Below is one example of countless ones I've seen. Feminists say out of one side of their mouths that all men are trash, and then out of the other they say feminists don't hate men.

You can believe whatever you want about feminism, but it's the actions of feminists that tell the true story.- +1 y
You want to talk about actions over words, written or otherwise? I happen to live in Sweden. We currently have like 8 different parties in government plus one or two independents and all but one of those parties are openly feminist.
(The one I know is not feminist happens to be a fascist nationalistic garbo party but moving on)
So what do these feminist politicians with literally the power to control the country do? Do they oppress men perhaps? No. They actually elevate men to the standard of women in many cases because that is what feminism is actually about, equality.
More specifically I am talking about laws intended to allow fathers to take equal amounts of leave as mothers for staying home with their newborn children. Of course there are others laws but I think its a useful example.
Also worth noting; as I demonstrated feminists have demonstrably done these things to the benefit of mens rights where as I have never actually heard of a mens rights group actually fighting for real policy changes. For them it just sounds like a culture war. Anytime there is actual changes for the better in regards to either gender its always Feminists who champions it. So yeah, I also care about actions.
Opinion Owner+1 y@Soteris Is one of those feminist politicians the one who proposed a law requiring that men urnate in the sitting position?
If you ask men's rights advocates what men's issues need to be addressed, I'm pretty certain paternity leave would not be on the list. But nice try.
My point when I mentioned feminists' actions was in regards to them hating men. Interesting that you didn't address that, and instead talked about an issue that women care about and men don't.
Yep, you're a feminist alright.- +1 y
Yeah, no idea what you are on about with that bathroom nonsense. It is not a topic that is discussed broadly among feminists and it is not a law that has been proposed to my knowledge.
As for how high paternity leave is on the priority list of mens rights organizations? Should that not be a slap in their face? I mean we are literally talking about them spending important quality time with their newborn children during an important formative period. The fact that women are given this and not men should be one of the highest fucking priorities for anyone with a shred of morality.
Also, I fail to see why women should necessarily care about paternity leave. They already have theirs right? If men have theirs or not should not concern the women right?
Opinion Owner+1 y@Soteris Regarding the bathroom issue, you being a Swedish male feminist, I'm surprised you aren't aware that one of your feminist brothers was pushing for a law that would outlaw urinals and require men to pee sitting down.

I'm surprised that you as a man think paternity leave is a significant issue to men. Makes me wonder.
Paternity leave is important to women because if allows their husbands to be home to help them out after childbirth, so it's a self-serving "men's rights" issue. And let's be honest, those are the only kind of "men's rights issues" feminists care about, right?- +1 y
Looked into it. They just wanted people to sit down when using the toilets on the local county states buildings so that they would not make a mess. It also would not outlaw urinals. They are simply looking to replace male and female bathrooms with unisex bathrooms that anyone can use in their own buildings. Putting aside how they can't actually legally enforce sitting down, its their own bathrooms so they get to decide if they are unisex or if they have urinals or whatever.
I struggle to wrap my head around what you are saying regarding paternity leave though. Family is more important than work, obviously that means the parents of a newborn child should have paid leave to spend time together. Is this even controversial? Why are you making it out like this is something only women are interested in? Do you think men dont want to spend time with their own children or something?
Opinion Owner+1 y@Soteris Perhaps you need to try again, and this time do a little more objective research. Viggo Hansen, a county counselor from the Left Party in Sormland, Sweden, tried passing a law that required that men sit down to pee when using the public bathrooms. Of course they can't enforce it, but that didn't stop them from trying.
Do us both a favor and ask a question here on GAG, directed toward men, and ask them if better paternity leave laws would make their top ten list of issues men care about and face in modern society. It seems pretty clear you don't see things from the same perspective as the majority of men. You would know that if you paid any attention to what men care about. If you want to wrap your head around this, just pay more attention to what men are concerned about rather than women. I know that's exceedingly difficult to a feminist, but you could certainly benefit from trying it.- +1 y
No, I did my research correctly. Viggo Hansen was trying to change the rules for the bathrooms in the county councils buildings AKA their own god damn buildings. Further more, I am pretty sure it was not actually a law change meaning it would not make it criminal or whatever, more like a local policy which would simply ask them.
And apparently, one random Swedish dude working in the government at a low level position saying that he wish people would sit down when peeing in the toilet down the hall is such a fucking big deal around the world that we are here talking about it today. You, my friend, are making a mountain out of a molehill.
As for what men prioritizes? Are you fucking serious? I honestly thought you were joking previously but you are honestly sitting there and telling me that men do not value their own family?
I don't like anyone who is ideologically-driven, so I try not to. Those people are nasty!

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yToday's feminists are the same as the original feminists, in fact the myth that first wave feminism was better is a falsehood invented by feminists, since, in reality, the first wave never existed, feminism as we know it today It began with the second wave, feminists used appropriationism and historical revisionism to take possession of other people's achievements, and claim them as their own.
