Which country do you think has had the most positive impact on the world, through its cultural and scientific contributions?

I would say France considering we were the most popular countries during multiples centuries, everybody looked up to us, the noble spoke French, they also tried to recreate Versaille (and others beautiful French architecture).
Also the Gothic architecture come from France and now is all over the world (the first building of many big American city are in Neo gothic, etc...
Noble from all over Europe used to speak French, dress in French fashion (and still today the French style is extremely trendy especially Dior and Chanel nowadays).
French style cafe is also very popular (see them everywhere on instagram and pinterest).
When it come to architecture, culture, fashion, food, etc... France did and still have a very big impact on the world.
There's also a pretty funny joke in France that say we have so many great things that everybody hate us cause they're jealous XD (one time a French king went to ask another king for military help so they invited him to eat in the most beautiful castle with the best food, wine, music and he became so jealous that he decided to side with our enemies against us cause he felt humiliated XD, and it's not even a joke, it's a real things.
Also British hymn "god save the king" is actually a French song that was invented when one of our king became severely sick and the British took it to their countries and made it their hymn.
I agree with France. Plus science and medicine too. I was in Québec and so many "firsts" in North America were done by the French ^_^
I was not aware of those things, thanks for sharing. ^_^ We also stole that melody for "Our Country's Tears Of Thee:😂
I only heard the one where French and Belgium were fighting and called a truce after French soldiers invited them to Christmas dinner🤣
There is no definitive answer to your question. The Indians and the Chinese greatly advanced the sciences in their progressive era and had a very important cultural impact, as did the Persians, the Ottoman Empire and other great civilizations.
And of course there are the Greeks and Romans.
Europeans took the diverse scientific and technical knowledge of these other civilizations and improved on it.
With the so-called scientific revolution and later industrialization, Europe reached a degree of development and power never equaled by any civilization in human history, and its cultural impact is just colossal.
After that, the USA, heir to the Europeans, underwent extraordinary development and made prodigious advances in science and other fields.
To sum up, I'd say that defining a single country as having had the greatest impact doesn't really make sense, because every great nation and civilization has had, in its moment of greatness, a very important impact on the development of science, etc., which has then been taken up by other nations, who in turn have advanced these inventions, techniques, etc., in a prodigious way.
But in the spirit of patriotism, I chose France 🤣
Online sources say that Italy holds the record for most inventions so on that basis you can say Italy.
However, I would honestly say France as well😂 I'll admit, I'm biased towards France, but England, Italy and Spain are the only other two candidates. Though Italy's impact wasn't lasting. England influenced a lot of pop culture and politics. Spain brought Christianity and left their language and culture in a significant portion of the world, but I would still go with France.
I'm not surprised by Italy , Italy is at the origin of the renaissance which allowed Europe to take the lead over other civilizations.
To be honest, no civilization has made as much progress in science and technology as the West, but now other great civilizations are once again becoming giants.
Well, yes, England is an absolute contender to be number one. But many people have forgotten that France has also contributed a great deal to science and has been the dominant culture and international language, but the United Kingdom has overtaken France and the industrial revolution came from England, so it's a tough choice.
I'm not either. You can definitely make a strong case for Italy, but I still think there's a stronger case for France, as Italy never colonized anyone, aside from a couple places in Africa. A lot of "firsts" in North America were done by the French.
And as you mentioned, there were many empires that no longer exist that are also strong contenders.
"France has also contributed a great deal to science and has been the dominant culture and international language"
Yes exactly, and this still continues today.
Why not?
I don't think the US is that advanced, honestly, and also the keyword here was "POSTIVE impact"😂
I was also talking throughout its entire history. There's no doubt that the U. S. is the most influential country in the current era for sure, not always in a good way, but the country is only 250 years.

I know it's difficult, that's why I asked it😂
WHAT?😵
I'm offended. You must be mistaking me for someone else
Bullshit! You've seen my posts. Just because I don't like some of your architecture😂
Oh wow, I didn't even notice that. That is indeed surprising. The Italians will vote for themselves😂
Only SOME. Mainly in Bordeaux😂
Okay, I hate to admit it, but not ALL of Bordeaux's architecture is bad😂
I also support Ukraine in its fight to freedom, because I know what it means to lose a war with Russia.
Georgia today is a country that lost a war with Russia.
And everything bad that happens today is a result of our defeat.
But I can’t blame us, we were just 4 million people against a huge monster neighbor.
The government today is a puppet of Russians.
Oops, sorry guys 🤣 I meant to reply in a different post.

If you look at history and present as a whole, these cultures contributed the most to inventions - Arab and Mediterranean empires (Ancient Egyptian to Roman, Greek, and Ottoman), Indian empires (ancient Hindu to Mughal and colonial Raj), and Chinese empires (Ancient China to modern China). I mean most contributions and world resources came from these geographical areas and these were considered the most advanced. The West was considered backwater for most of the centuries and only came to prominence in relatively modern centuries and that is the history we read where the likes to Captain Cook and Christopher Columbus "discover" places where native civilizations lived for centuries before they arrived. Little do people know that the compasses used by the West to navigate the seas during colonialism was an Arab invention. Christopher Columbus' navigator and attorney was a Muslim Moor from Spain. The spice they went for was from India. Alexander the Great moved his Empire towards India and got as far as Afghanistan because the East was where wealth lay. Machiavelli used much of his writing from reading Arabic political writing. We today would not know how to read Ancient Greek or Latin without the Arabs who translated it to Arabic. We consider ourselves the inheritors of Roman and Greek politics and culture and yet we have hundreds of years between us and them and did not even know those cultures until we started reading Arabic during the Enligtenment.
Well, I just learned some new things 😊
Whether it's positive or negative, the USA has always made a big (if not the biggest) impact whatsoever on the world.
Ze Germans, of course. 🇩🇪🇩🇪🇩🇪
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_German_inventions_and_discoveries
I think ancient China must have been on the list, along with “late” Byzantine Empire.
Are you just saying that because you're Chinese?
I am not Chinese?
Your profile says you live in China and you made a post about wearing traditional Chinese clothes
I don’t have to be Chinese to know that China has had one of the oldest civilizations which is a base of most Asian cultures.
I am from Georgia 🇬🇪 myself and proud of it. Now, I would be biased, if I mentioned Georgia, which has had a very noteworthy history and culture. But I don’t want anyone to think I am biased, so I am not mentioning Georgia.
Honestly, I was wearing traditional Chinese clothes because Chinese think, Eastern Europeans are very pretty and they feel honored to boast of having a coworker who’s that good looking.
Regarding the last comment, that’s not what I think, that’s what Chinese think about me.
No you don't, but your post and location made me assume you were Chinese. Then your French name threw me off even more😂
GEORGIA? I would have never guessed!😲
Why not? Joseph Stallin. Chess Masters. Wine.
😂
Georgian girls are VERY pretty🥰
Thank you Kostas,
Yep, I am Georgian 😇
And your name suggests me, you must be from Lietuva? 🇱🇹
If I'm completely honest, nothing. You don't even look Chinese, that's why I was confused😂
Oh Lithuania? No, not at all. My name is actually Greek, though I have no connection with Greece aside from having been there and falling in love with the culture.
I'm actually Polish, but born and raised in the US
I almost went to Georgia a few years ago, but it fell through
Wow! That’s wonderful.
I traveled to Poland 11 months ago. Loved Warsaw.
I hope you’ll get to travel to Georgia someday 😇
Lots of Polish people in Kutaisi. I couldn't find any information as to why they're there.
Really? Everyone in Poland HATES Warsaw people😂 I've never been to Warsaw.
Yes, I'd still like to some day. Maybe when the situation in Ukraine calms down.
I saw on your profile that you like Slavic men😉
You live in Tbilisi?
What makes you so proud to be from Georgia? It's a country with worse security than Colombia and Mexico, where the police are take tourists hostage in exchange for money. Not something to be proud of. When I visited, I was beaten by a male policeman for no apparent reason. They detained me in prison without providing any explanation, requested my family's telephone number, and told me that my release would be granted in exchange for a payment of $3,500 USD. I've read hundreds of posts from travelers and tourists online who've shared similar experiences regarding Georgia. It is unreasonable for people living in terror countries to take pride about their country.
@KostasKouvalis I'm glad your travel plans fell through. I believe that they may target tourists from the United States because they can potentially fetch a higher ransom. I once watched a YouTube video featuring an American man who stated that intruders broke into the hotel room where he was staying for the night, while he was in Georgia.
@rideorsleep Are you sure you aren't confusing Georgia with another country? Georgia has very good relationship with the U. S. and Americans.
Maybe, you were in Abkhazia or South Ossetia.
@KostasKouvalis I went to Georgia. Before visiting a foreign country, I research the crime rates. I read that Georgia's crime rate was reported as low, but when I arrived in the country, I was sorely disappointed to find that the claim of a low crime rate was false.
@rideorsleep I'll be completely honest with you, based on my research, Georgia is more dangerous then people think, especially Tbilisi. If I'm even more honest, I'm not so sure Georgians are as friendly or hospitable as they claim. I've never heard of any tourists being invited into a stranger's home. Maybe during the Cold War in small villages it was like this, but doesn't seem so much anymore. And I've learned from personal experience, that true friendly people don't boast about how friendly they are. I've researched Georgia a lot and have interacted with some Georgians and they seem to have a typical Eastern European attitude. And they seem very serious and mature.
Also, I didn't wanna say this in front of Femme, but Georgians are NOT Europeans. They're west Asians who think they're Europeans. Their culture, food, dress, music, architecture, language and even genetics are far more similar to the Middle East then they are too Europe. They are politically European, and maybe their religion is European. Georgians won't even acknowledge that their country, except for a few teeny sections in the far north, geographically lies entirely in Asia.
I think the culture and country are very fascinating, but they do give me weird vibes, not gonna lie.
Femme seems cool though
@KostasKouvalis I agree with you and there is nothing in what you said that would offend her.
I'm a Hungarian, considered Eastern European, though I often express my opinion that Eastern Europeans can't always be trusted. I don't believe that most societies considered Eastern European are actually Eastern European. In my opinion typical Eastern Europeans include Albanians, Belarusians, Bulgarians, Russians, and Serbs. There is a cruelty in these societies that I don't know the reason for; they all have a very bloody history. Georgians don't have an Eastern European appearance but they are Eastern European in temperament and Ukrainians are Eastern European in appearance but they are definitely not Eastern European in temperament. I'm not a racist, but I feel like I should never trust the races I mentioned.
@rideorsleep Hungarians are genetically Turkic, which makes the issue even more complicated. I consider Serbia and Hungary "Central Europe", at least geographically.
The only countries I would truly consider "EASTERN Europe" are Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania and Moldova. MAYBE Kosovo and North Macedonia. Albania, Kosova and Macedonia are sort of at a crossroads between Eastern and Southern, but culturally they are definitely Eastern.
I've never been to TRUE Eastern Europe, but I've known many Eastern Europeans, and they indeed cannot be trusted. Everyone in Europe knows this. They've always had a reputation and there's a reason so few tourists go there. Very backwards people. Zelensky is the prime example of a typical Eastern European.
Eastern Europeans have a very bloody history.
I don't think you're racist at all. It's not racist to acknowledge facts and Eastern Europeans aren't technically a race. The notion that people everywhere are the same is utter bullshit!
There actually are Eastern Europeans who behave like Borat.
And I'm so sorry about your experience in Georgia
So yeah, I'm surprised Georgians voluntarily identify as Eastern Europeans like it's a good thing.
Thanks. The Ukrainian state is corrupt, but Ukrainians are certainly friendly and good people. They are very helpful and kind.
You're definitely doing best by not visiting Eastern Europe at all. Hungary might be worth seeing, and I'm not saying this out of nationalist feelings. There are statues with historical stories on every street in Budapest. I can recommend that you research 'Cipők a Duna-parton.' Aside from that, St. Petersburg might also be worth visiting. If you can tolerate seeing Russians every day, I recommend a visit there.
By the way are you fully Polish with Polish parents or an American with Polish ancestors?
@rideorsleep Not from my experience, but to each their own. I'm sure some are. Don't get me started on Russians though 😂
I'll check it later. I've only traveled through by bus and it was night time. My parents used to visit during the Cold War. My dad hates it and says it's ugly 'cuz there's too many fields😂
And my family says Balaton is ugly and muddy😂 My dad said he only likes the Parliament building😂 My mom used to go there to eat Goulash and buy Peperonni and other sausage. Polish people used to go there to trade.
The country does seem to have beautified a lot however, especially the cities, it really doesn't seem as bad as he claims. I wouldn't mind a proper visit.
I do love Omega.
Yes. St. Petersburg is the only Russian city that looks worth visiting. I have a love-hate relationship with Russia. I've heard good things about Russians when they're in Russia, but Russian tourists are just AWFUL!😂
I was the first in my family born outside of Poland, but my bood is fully Polish and I speak the language fluently 😊
Are you a nationalist?
I just googled it. Very tragic. Are you Jewish?
I love the Polish people they are very brave and helpful. They were the first to open their doors to the Ukrainians when the war broke out. They have left a great impression on me but I think they are a little angry.
I'm not Jewish and I am not a nationalist, I love my country, culture, language and people, but I cannot say that I am a nationalist.
@rideorsleep My dad was telling me how some Hungarian guy was cursing him and his friends out, 'cuz my dad was speaking Russian and he thought they were Russian, but then when my dad said, " No Russo, Lengyelek!", his demeanor instantly changed and he gave them vodka and let them sleep in his yard!😂
That's quite flattering to hear actually, but yes, a lot of Polish people are very angry and love to complain and swear😂 They're also extremely nationalistic and greedy, but are also much more sociable then other Europeans. But it's different when you're a non-Polish tourist or if you live there. If you're a Pole living abroad, they look down on you out of jealousy😂
I know, everyone is praising them for it but after Zelensky's recent comments, they're regretting it. And Ukraine and Poland don't exactly have a friendly history. I do think it's extremely unfair though how Russians and Russian sports teams are being treated because of the actions of their government. You don't even wanna get me started. I'd rather not talk about the war.
Would you like to chat in PM?
Of course, I opened now my DM box for you to send a message. I'd love to hear which countries you've visited.
@rideorsleep Hi. I am truly sorry for your awful experience in Georgia.
I have a hard time believing anybody would detain you in prison, I’ve never heard this happening before. Could you please share me what was their reasoning behind all this? I just fail to understand why’d they do it yo someone without a reason.
Now, I’ve been living in Georgia on and off for 5 years. I left Georgia at 22. Right After successfully finishing my year as a Vice-President in European Law Students Association, which has up to 45 European member countries.
I was also member of NATO’s Youth organization, which allowed me the membership as a representative of NATO’s Eastern European partnership.
So, it is no wonder I consider myself European, since Europe is a state of mind and I have put my efforts and contributed to the good of it, in the name of Georgia and Eastern Europe.
Appearance wise, Georgia is a crazy mix. Take my own family as an example, I look more White and Asian mix, while my mother is ethnic Georgian and looks Slavic, my brother also looks like European.
From 8 of my great grandparents only two had different eye color other than blue or green, I inherited from those who had darker eyes.
So even our families are a mix. We don’t identify with neighboring Azerbaijani, Armenian people.
We also are only Orthodox Christian nation in pur surroundings and we have always had closer ties to Eastern Europe than to the neighboring Middle Eastern or Western Asian countries.
In truth, Georgia is a transcontinental country and with some estimations you can consider it European and with others, Western Asian.
We get to choose, who we fit into closer.
I grew up in Georgia that was a fairytale. It was a little progressive country that had really extremely low crime rate and I didn’t know what fear was, because I knew for a fact, I was protected.
10 years ago, after war with Russia, government changed into the pro-Russian one and they messed up Georgia big time.
I’ve gone on numerous protests, riots and manifestations against them, but nothing worked. We burned the empty police cars, nothing worked. They shot rubber bullets to the eyes of average students and patriot civilians.
I left Georgia and now live in Shanghai. But my heart is in Georgia.
Just because today it’s not in good hands, doesn’t mean I don’t have a right to be happy with the cultural heritage and a wonderful history Georgia has.
I am sorry you had to experience such a thing and I’d like you to message me in private, maybe I can ask some of my lawyer friends if there’s something they can do.
Yeah, sadly I heard there's some organized crime now and lots of scammers and toxic masculinity, sadly. But yes, I've never heard of anything like what she said either. Truly sad.
I didn't mean you specifically, I meant Georgians in general want no association with Asia.
And yes, Georgians have a very diverse appearance.
Thanks for your response 😊
Thanks Kostas,
I support Ukraine in its fight to freedom, because I know what it means to lose a war with Russia.
Georgia today is a country that lost a war with Russia.
And everything bad that happens today is a result of our defeat.
But I can’t blame us, we were just 4 million people against a huge monster neighbor.
The government today is a puppet of Russians.
Damn, I didn't know Georgia was in SUCH bad shape! I agree, all those things are incredible and something to be proud of indeed. It's still on my bucketlist, but maybe not at this point in time. So strange considering it before COVID it broke its tourism record. And lots of Chinese were traveling there.
You moved to China? You are crazy!😂
Haha, yep.
When I was 23, I asked myself, what’s the craziest country in the world?
I am going to go there.
Just wanted to test my survival skills.
Was thinking if I could survive in China, I could survive just about anywhere.
But in all honesty, China ended up being much cooler than I expected, Shanghai and its surrounding big cities at least.
But of course I have nothing to do with its politics. I don’t support it’s politics and am now employed in a totally different field, I lecture foreign professionals, mainly from the USA, Great Britain and South Africa
*moved here 1 month after my 22nd birthday
Yeah, I assure you there are crazier places than China, LOL
