Cops didn't care my problem?

I have been harassed by someone with private calls since march. And this person found out that I went to university, he called me yesterday again and asked which university I went to. I didn't tell him, and then I told him to stop calling me, but he insulted and threatened me. It was the last straw, so I went to police station to file a criminal complaint against this person. When I told the chief the problem, he told me to wait to give a statement. But then a cop came and said, "Why didn't you block this person at the beginning?" I told him that he called me with a private number, and he said,"we can not identify this person anyway. If he calls you with a number, come back. "
I said, "If you can't find, who will find? So that means I can get involved in a cyber crime. After all, you can't find me. "
What should I do?

Its stupid but without a special unit cops are useless when it comes to this. They should have let you file it anyway though as future events can be connected with it.
I had actual hate crimes not being followed by the police, because they couldnt find the person behind an internet adress.

Ok well first of all don’t ever answer phone calls from a private number. Even if it isn’t private, if it’s not in your contacts don’t answer it. If it’s that important they will leave a message. As for finding out you were going to a university. I have a good chance of meeting a young girl who is going to school as well. Meaning it was a shot in the dark. Unless it’s someone who’s looking at your open social media platform. I don’t think the cops can do much about it.

Just change your number the police can do anything without a number and proof if its all through calls they won't do anything

Change your number. Without an actual number, there is little the police can do because a private number doesn't prove even In court that it is him calling. Best just to change your number

Change your number? Or go on your call settings and try finding a call blocker, see if you can throw the Private number into a spam blocker

The cops aren't doing anything because:

1. You know who this guy is
2. You're playing a victim when you're not
3. Change your number
4. You're an attention where grow up
