Elbridge Colby, who was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development from 2017 to 2018 under the Trump administration , thinks so.
In fact, in a paper he wrote yesterday, he basically explains that American soil is no longer a sanctuary, and that the Chinese now have the possibility of hitting American soil with missile strikes.
As he explains, in the past, China's ability to strike the USA was extremely limited, as it could only attack through cyber attacks or strategic nuclear strikes.
But today and in the future, with the new weapons that China is developing, it has and will have the possibility of hitting American soil with conventional weapons.
Elbridge explains that if such an attack were to occur, the Chinese would probably target strategic locations on American soil.
Although, as he explains, it doesn't say that China will attack American soil, but that they should be prepared for the possibility.
And of course the Americans would have means of retaliation, but that wasn't the subject of his analysis.

hitting the US with any weapons is not an easy feat. in fact the easiest route to target the US is not by striking a populated area it is by striking the heartland. eliminate the food supply of the US and then you can consider an invasion. the problem is to access the heartland a country would have to approach from the north and our entire northern border is protected by Canada. now the second best option would be targeting the large power grinds that control electrical power to the east and west coast. this could be done via sleepers sent to the US long before an actual invasion. you get these sleepers to be hired at these stations and coordinated to destroy the stations. when the time is deemed proper you launch a multi faceted strike to decimate the electrical grid for the east and west coast. with this you want to wipe out any initial attempts to restore power or bring emergency power so you target smaller substations around the area. you also have sleepers target federal buildings and financial buildings. this would cause pandemonium across the US. if you pair this with targeting media stations and cell towers you shut down government, financial and communication for massive portions of the US leaving the country blind for x amount of time. with this you have a window that you must land multiple small invasion forces and take control of large sections of crucial command before landing your main invasion force. all of this could be done as a long term multi faceted invasion plan and from first strike to full invasion could be accomplished in under a day provided the proper measures were taken.
No hope of an infantry invasion but lobbing some missiles has potential.
We have seen the US demonstrate intercepting ICBM missiles but there is unlikely to be much coverage. Hypersonic missiles which can maneuver are much harder. Ballistic missiles follow a set ballistic path which can be calculated.
It does seem that China has hypersonic missiles but Russia's Kinzhal hypersonic turned out just to be a rocket that could be shot down by a Patriot. Maneuvering is the key part and yes China has demonstrated that but being cynical it could be standard rocketry at play. The second aspect is communicating with a hypersonic missile with radio - there is a lot of ionized air at Mach 5+.
If China is adventuresome enough to launch missiles at the US, they would need to be sure the US could not mistake it for a nuclear attack, triggering a retaliatory response. There is not a clear divide if hypersonic missiles could carry nuclear pay loads as well as ICBM's. The US has restricted it's missile types to avoid "this might be a nuclear attack" ambiguity as I understand it.
If China was willing to provoke a nuclear exchange by using conventional warhead missiles wouldn't they just go nuclear in the first place with a first strike advantage?

No. They'd never get by with it and they know it. So what if they can hit US soil with their missiles? Stuff like that is only the first volley in modern warfare. So they send in some missiles, then what? They don't have the capability to move forward. Among other things, they don't have a navy to do it. Their navy is growing fast, but it's more for controlling their own waters, not for crossing the ocean.
China could never win a war on US soil, and the US could never win a war on Chinese soil. Or at least they couldn't do it without destroying both countries. So what purpose would it serve? It's the old theory of MAD - Mutually Assured Destruction. It's what keeps the peace, because the price is too high.
With long range missiles, yes, and I think you'd have to be a moron to believe that they wouldn't do it. Boots on the ground however, absolutely not. As large and rapidly modernizing as the PLA is, they're still looking at a disastrous loss of personnel and equipment just attempting to land on Taiwan, let alone Japan or the United States.
You also have to understand that China (and most countries) do not give a rats ass about "nation building," and have no interest or capability in occupying countries without conquering them. They want Taiwan mostly intact, otherwise they could more easily pound it into dust. This is not the case with most other parts of the world, which they'd be much less hesitant to destroy if push came to shove.
The idea that any nation would ever realistically attack the US for the purposes of conquest is monumentally retarded. Last time someone did it, they got nuked, twice, and that happened over a could of boats. No one could ever conquer LA, NYC or Washington, or any other place in the US for that matter. If you were to conquer an inch of US territory by means of war, you'd have to dismantle the US military in it's entirety, else you'd get bombed, napalmed and nuked. Really the best way to actually conquer and control any part of the US is through means used currently by the likes of China, create distractions, divisions and stir the pot from the outside while you watch the internal tensions rip the US apart.
I would like to think that they would not. But, think about what our idiot in chef has done in the last three years. Cut the military numbers by using Woke ideas. Depleted our oil reserves. Stop drilling to be oil independent, therefore having to buy crude oil from people who hate us. Who could shut off the spigot at any time. Allowing who knows to walk into this country over the Southern Border. Allowing China to buy US land near our military bases. I would imagine that China would want this country intact and not totally make it uninhabitable for decades. So if they would hack into everything. Even with modern technology, a massive invasion if tye US by anyone in Asia would be extremely difficult. More likely, an attack on US soil would involve missiles and bombers. The Chinese have both.

Yes they would. Not only are there the "CCP police stations" on US soil, there are dozens of thousands of Chinese illegals of military age who have entered the US since 2021, as well as many thousands of Chinese university students currently in the US.
China has a problem in that most of their people are in a triangle on their east coast. An invasion of the US would lead to nuclear war and those people would be gone in less than an hour. I would rather have nuclear was than China in our country.

Nah, China even with having long range weapons still doesn't have the capability to take on the U. S.. Hell China can just barely take a small country like Taiwan.. So in the event of War unless China had a death wish to be wiped off the map, they would try to hit all the U. S bases first before they could even think about it's soil.. Even with our ever growing irresponsible government.
In a ground invasion? No. With 400 million + privately owned firearms, that is highly unlikely. And troop shops would never make it here. The Russians never had battle plans for an invasion. Air power? They could attempt that but air power makes way for troops, who would never make it here. ICBM's? Possibly but we would level their major cities in retaliation. Besides, we would immediately default on our debts and cut off commerce with them, scuttling their economy.

The way things are at the moment, China won't attack the USA. They're more likely to ally with them to start with. Let the US forces be depleted fighting someone else and then switch sides. Sleepy Joe would never see it coming until Xi was sitting in the Oval Office behind his desk.
I think it really depends on what god king Xi tells them to do. Xi and Putin both live in a bubble where no one wants to give them bad news. So they have their idea of how the world is going heavily based on what the yes men who report to them say. Any sort of delusion can result from that.
They would have no need for a hot war. They could cut off our supply of goods and crash our whole country. They supply all kinds of things but especially our pharmaceuticals and tech hardware. They also supply a lot of equipment that keeps our power grid going. They could just pull the switch on a piece of equipment and shutdown/interrupt our power grid. No power for a month would kill more people in a month than a hot war would kill in a year.
