Do you believe that peoples personalities are ultimately affected more by their genetics or their environment, peers, and other factors?

Yeah genetics will come into it, however no matter what that throws into the mix, living in an abusive household, living a place where life is cheap will impact a person far more than anything in their genetic background. For example having a narcissistic parent or parents will greatly influence a person, as will traumatic events early in life. If you have twins one goes to a stable and loving set of parents, the other to abusive parents, no matter the amount of genetic make up, the personality of the one with abusive parents will be hugely different.
It's nature. It's a fact. As a twin I share 99% of the genes of a person I didn't meet until I was 20 and he grew up much different then me with different parents and different area, with different money. We have the same job. The same tastes. The same temperament. Our wives look so similar people think they are similar.
That's a crazy story man. Appreciate ya sharing. And I 100% agree with you that nature is greater than nurture. There are even studies on it. But the reason people want to believe nurture is greater than nature is because they want to believe their life is in their own hands rather than fate.
That's nuts man. Yeah genetics play a huge factor in who we are and even the skills we have.
I think it's a bit more than 10%. Maybe like 20% but nurture is definitely the dictating factor.
Nature is the dictating factor*
Personality I think is mostly determined by your environment. Though in certain situations it can be biological, you can be born an absolute asshole.
But generally the way you are raised, how you are taught (or not taught) to deal with feelings big or small ultimately shapes who you are as a person. People hate on gentle parenting so much, but it really does produce empathetic, kind, loving humans who are capable of handling big emotions healthily.
Both, how we behave is primarily determined by genetics first and other environmental factors second
I agree entirely with this. On another note, from what I've from your opinions and your responses to people, my impression of you is you're definitely one of the more intelligent ones on this app. Just paying a compliment.
what I've seen*

Nurture for the most part although it's from a pragmatic rather than analytical perspective that I favor this.
It's more useful, so to speak, to think nurture is more responsible since we have more direct control over it.
I've never found it productive when people don't even bother trying a new thing because they blame their genetic disadvantage, e. g., or fail to recognize the hard work of people who excel and attribute it all to their genetics. It's a very counter-productive way to think.
environment but also genetics. Mental illness is genetic and mental illness can affect a person’s personality. The way people act and behave is still a choice but I just saying mental illness and life experiences can change a person or contribute.
Holy My Fair Lady, Batman.
Your genetics limit what you can do and how you can do it- in essence, sets up a set of limitations for you. After that, the outside factors challenge how you/your body respond.
I have done an Ancestry dot com DNA test. It shows up some traits that I have. They are uncannily correct. Must be in my genes.
probably, the people around you... or the lack of them
that's what will make a difference for most
It's a blend of everything, whether one realizes it or not.
Deffo the second one because of many reasons
100% environment. parent's can so easily fuck up their kids. which in turn fucks up other people and the cycle just continues until someone wants to break it
I think environment as you describe it is more influential, but keep in mind that environment effects depend on neurology.
I think if you took identical twins, seperated them at birth, had one raised by a sociopath and one raised by a loving, nuturing, supportive couple, you'd see two adults with different personalities.
Trying to fit in with the people around them
Environment. You don't see the family of a serial killer going on a killing spree.
Actually they do. There are many cases (more than not) where serial killers have good families that have only been good to them.

I'm talking about the rest of the family, such as the children of the serial killer, so you didn't understand my answer or I wasn't clear enough.
I do appreciate the link, though. Many of them aren't readily apparent until they make a mistake.
I also admit I do lack intelligenceđŸ˜…
Never implied you lack intelligence man. Don't say negative stuff about yourself that isn't true!
I assumed that from your comment on someone else's post. My bad.
I only insult others who insult me đŸ˜‚
