The largest of cities or the quaintest of countrysides, where do you live preferably and why?

Biggest city for me. I get really bored in very rural areas like going to same restaurants and hang out places over and over.

It's peaceful but kind of routine and I find a lot of the most rural types of people have often rarely traveled or seen much of the rest of the world. There's a bit of a disconnect there.

I've found a nice balance though after marriage where I live in a nice and quiet suburban neighborhood but it isn't too far away from downtown.

The city does have the advantage of variety yes. I love spending time in the big cities though for myself I'd never live there permenantly.

I lived in Tokyo for almost a decade. I really enjoyed it although it does feel a bit lonely at times, curiously enough, despite being surrounded by a sea of people. On the flip side, when I'm in the smallest of towns, I start to feel lonely seeing the exact same few people all the time. So there's like a sweet spot for me between the two.

I think there's a balance to me between the familiar and unfamiliar that way. My ideal bar (even though I quit drinking, but I can enjoy a coffee or something) would be 50% familiar faces and then 50% new ones all the time. I enjoy meeting a brand new stranger but don't want to always be surrounded by almost nothing but strangers.

I live in a metropolitan area of 1,000,000+ but would prefer to live in an outlying rural area.

I have only liked one city that I’ve been in for more than 3 days and it’s because of the arcade and restaurants and had nothing to do with the city layout. I don’t like large cities cause there is more crime, relationships are impersonal and associates are superficial or motivated by social climbers.

I like both 😭 I grew up in both I’ve lived in the country and the city side!. If I had kids I’d pick the country side to raise them tough.

Pretty much the same for me so we agree. I enjoy having nature around me, but also being closeby to the cities.

Definitely was fun as a kid, putting up our own tire swing on a tree, fishing and swimming in the pond, playing in the creek, climbing the big rock formations, catching toads until they peed on us etc.

lol I fully agree with both of you! @Agent_Elflord that’s so nostalgic for me!! I grew up on a farm it was amazing but also the city was nice too so many places to go and so many people to see/meet!.

Agreed. Started off in my hometown which is nice, but my grandparents had 29 acres in the foothills and we'd go up a bunch every summer. My parents and I moved up there 6 years ago and then my Sister, BIL, and baby Nephew moved in too so I got to teach him some of the things we used to do as kids.

Now we don't have that land anymore and being back in the city is okay but it feels so crowded now and less free. Eventually I hope to have my own little 5-10 acre place.

My hubby says…I can’t never stay in one place … not that I am not happy…I just like to see the world 😊.

i grew up in a rice paddy farm the first 10 years of my life… then to NYC… big changes…I enjoyed much of the city… and now in quiet CT…I am not far from the city and still work there so I have the best of both world.
my kids are in very good schools now…def. not a good place to send kids to High School in the city area.
soon they will be done with HS and me retiring, we can go travel the world… so hard to pick… I just pick up and go when I want…glad I have that option…

I live in a suburb, where my parents chose. But if I live to the age of retirement, which is extremely unlikely, I'll move to Wyoming or Alaska where it'll be quiet, I'll be free to do as I please, and I don't have to put up with any more people than I want to

The country is much better: you get land, privacy, it's quieter, there's less crime and more nature. Things are cheaper, people are nicer, and you are not living under the rule of shit leftards.

I would have zero issues living in a big city if it weren't for the crime, the homelessness, the insanely high cost of living, the trash and pollution, the poorly maintained transit systems, and the typically nutty politics.

I'm a countryside man myself. It's enough country to have the peace and quiet, and nature where I live but is also closeby to civilization. My ideal.

I would prefer to live in a large city. I don't like countryside. In a big city I would always have something new to do, I would meet new people. I would often have a new place to go. I would never get bored.
