What do you think about this statement about Easter?

A friend of mine on Facebook posted that today is when Easter should not be celebrated on the Western Calendar

She is a member of a Christian group called The Way. To me Easter is usually in March on a leap year. That’s the way I always known it.

The date of Easter is not fixed. It's movable. It falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon that follows the Spring Equinox.

Besides, as a point of interest, according to some theologians and Church historians, the historical date of Jesus Christ's Resurrection is actually March 27th, the Passion and Crucifixion having been on March 25th. It has something to do with the date the Earth was created and when the Archangel Gabriel announced the birth of Christ to Mary. I'd recommend reading a book called The Eternal City by a man named Taylor Marshall. The chapter in question has more to do with the birth of Jesus, but still has implications here.

The reason why it's not fixed on this particular date though is because that was the date on which Passover occurred in the year Jesus was crucified.

It just varies. In 2016, it was in March. In 2020, it was in April. In 2028, it will be on April 16th (fun fact, that is the most common date for Easter). The earliest date for Easter can be March 22nd and the latest can be April 25th.

And I should clarify something. The Jews of that time obviously did not use the Gregorian calendar, which we are now on, as Pope Gregory XIII was still about 1,600 years out at that point. They just looked at how the Jewish calendar lined up. That, I believe, is also detailed in Marshall's book.

The Council of Nicaea in AD 325 proscribed that Easter shall be celebrated on the first Sunday after the full Moon that falls on or after the spring equinox.
That means that Easter Sunday could fall on any one of the thirty-six days between March 21 and April 25.

Oh. Well, in that case, I guess the criticism of "Western calendar" actually works.

There's no real set date for Easter. It takes place between February and April. They did try and set a date for it about 100 years ago, but a little thing called the First World War put paid to the idea...

    Simples...

@RebelinSteel I see. so, it's all based on astrology rather than the date it supposedly actually happened! Why, then, don't they do the same with Christmas?
The article contradicts itself! "It isn’t any old date in springtime that happens to suit us." YES, it IS!! Instead of fixing it to the date it supposedly happened, it's bouncing it all over the calendar because of some mystical astronomical; mumbo jumbo that we tend to follow!
However, the whole thing is based on astrological mumbo jumbo! The supposed death of the 'son" (the Sun), takes place on the night of the winter solstice, Dec. 21st, when the Sun reaches its lowest pint in the sky and stay there for three days and then it rises from the dead on Dec. 21st when it appears 1 degree higher in the sky than it had been the previous 3 days. So, if the "son" dies on the night of the 21st of Dec. and rises 3 days later on the morning on the 25th, why is there Easter at all? And, what does any of it have to do with rabbits, eggs, baskets and candy? Easter is SUPPOSED to be a celebration of the new Spring! Basically, the rebirth of the planet from it's winter slumber!

@FunkyMonkee by the way I’m from England we actually get taught the history of Easter at Primary school, from Ancient Britons, Celts and onwards to it being a Christian festival. You miss the point about how being moveable increases its profile, and links back to the Jewish festivals.

@RebelinSteel There's a possibility I caught it but, it's just not something I deem worthy of remembering.
