The main headlines in today's Daily Mail is a lot of people (mainly on the left) think the English flag is racist or divisive.
In the UK you will see four flags flying, the main Union flag, the English St George's Cross, the Scottish Saltire, and the Welsh Y ddraig coch.
Whereas you'll see Y ddraig coch everywhere in Wales and The Saltire all over Scotland, you only ever really see the St George's Cross draped out of a skinheads council estate window during the world Cup leading many to claim it's only flown by the wrong type of people.
The graphs show how people in the 3 countries feel about flags (NI was ignored). How do you feel?
This is obviously aimed at British people but feel free to chip in.

To make fun of war like it's a joke is incredibly immature, and their comments show how little they know about what happened. Confederates are more honorable in defeat than Yankees are in victory, and that right there is why it took so much to beat the Confederates
I recommend you read the book "How the South Won the Civil War." I'm sure you'll find the author's points of view interesting. How much of this she agrees with, I'm not sure, I haven't read it, but let me tell you my point of view. John Wilkes Boothe was in the Confederate Secret Service. He shot Abe Lincoln a couple of days after Robert E Lee's "surrender." After Abe Lincoln's death, Johnson took over -- he was a man born right here in North Carolina. Johnson sat idly by while the states passed law after law that made it illegal for slaves to integrate with society. Why? Because when you're a criminal, you are not protected under the 13th amendment, a slavery loophole baked right into the Constitution. Meanwhile, we used the press to equate helping slaves with communism and demonized them in every way, shape, and form. Slaves existed in the South until 1960 - Google it. Now, you tell me who won? Looks to me like we killed your leader and took over the government and kept slavery legal for 100 years.
@rangers There's a street in the town I was born, a street that runs through the black neighborhood. It is named after a slave who escaped from his master. The slave had been severely beaten for using his master's carpentry tools. It didn't end well for the slave. Let that be a lesson to you kids when you walk down the street to your shack behind the tobacco factory.

which is my biggest gripe, in Wales pretty much everyone knows St David’s Day, in Scotland ditto with St Andrews. Now England, ask your average person and they don’t know, it’s under celebrated and people will avoid pushing the English Flag. 🏴
There was talk with when Scotland was pushing for Independence that HM Forces would revert to wearing the Red Cross 🏴
Most in England won't even know what day it is let alone celebrate. I think st davids day being down to the welsh being historically more religious plus the day feels more inclusive than it's English counterpart. Wales is also less "racially diverse" than England which helps.
Eh. Every flag holds the weight of its peoples land. Good and bad. This sounds like a way to make sales/get hits for an article. When my neighbor did a hit and run on my truck I added a StG to a pvc pipe atop a bright new cone on a wall brick (as they tried to run over the cone) to remind them a vehicle is there but also keep the embarrassment going toward them in the neighborhood. Horrible people. I would have used a union jack but the England flag is whiter and these people are stupid and would have to look it up. Points for educating them.

All flags are tribalism, and what is tribalism? The very thing that racism thrives and comes from. Tribalism is one of the ultimate things that to me is only bad. Why did people follow hitler? Tribalism Why did people think crusades were good? Tribalism Why was invading other countries good? Tribalism? Why were slaves? Tribalism A flag or symbol only steams from the ideals of Tribalism. Get rid of Flags and Banners for people to fall under watch extremism be discouraged.

I quit listening to cries of racism 40 years ago because 95% of the time it's not racism. For the other 5%, tell me the details and let me decide, instead of simply calling it racism and expecting me to agree with little to no other information.
As an American, I see this more as a question of national identity. I've spent some time in England and Scotland... haven't gotten to Wales yet but I'd like to.
When I talk to someone in Scotland, they say they are Scottish, while a person in England says they are British. I'm guessing someone in Wales would call themselves Welsh, and I know people in Northern Ireland call themselves Irish.
The Commiecrat Left (or the Communist Labourite Left for you over there) want to demonize actually native-born British people. And don't think they will stop with the Saint George's Cross - they will demonize the Scot Saint Andrew's Cross next, and the Welshy dragon after that.

Labour and Lib Dems think the English flag is 'Racist", any who do are free to leave the country at their earliest convenience, I'm Sick of Attacks on Our English Flag. It's an Insult to the English. Just seen the latest yougov poll and yet again it is the young that are letting the side down. Nearly 40% of them have an unfavourable view of people flying St George's Cross in outside our home. Like you say if they do not like our country then they can simply fuck off elsewhere. We can fly whatever we like outside our own homes.

It's only racist if we allow unsatisfactory elements to adopt it while the so called elites look down their nose at it and stop legitimate use of it on public buildings for fear of offending their peers. Personally I favour the union jack anyway but there are times when we want to celebrate England in particular. Normally sporting events but sometimes matters of state.
Anyway there's nothing innately wrong with supporting your national football team. It's the WAY some people support it that brings shame to the nation.
