Guns in schools is not the answer., it won't keep students safer. School shootings are sad when they happen, but considering the thousands of schools in the US, the number of school shootings is a small minority. In each specific school, there's a greater probability and risk of a teacher's or administrator's gun harming someone than the probability of the school having a shooting incident.

Its such a laughably bad idea to arm teachers. First of all, being a teacher is a full-time job and you are asking them to take up further training and responsibilities. Secondly, you are asking them to both be a kind and compassionate teacher as well as a swat or special forces, which means that becoming a teacher would literally be a harder job because it includes those and more. Then we come to the reality where each teacher needs to mentally prepare themselves to kill their own students in the event that they become a threat and they need to do this every day for their entire career while still put on the mask of a "compassionate" and "kind" teacher.

Lastly, lets just acknowledge that this would just put coldhearted and armed killers in an authority position over your kids.. with guns.. and the fact that its neither unheard of for teachers to abuse their authority over their students or that the teachers themselves might be the shooter. This is literally just providing the perfect job for someone who wants to kill kids or rape them.

Schools should just have good defense like any bank, airport, or corporate building.

Giving out MORE weapons as the solution seems off to me.

If a responsible adult saw a child with bleach filled water balloons throwing it at other kids, they wouldn’t give the victimized kids bleach balloons too..

That’s essentially fighting fire with fire..

Instead, the kids who have something they shouldn’t, should have those confiscated.

Same applies to who is allowed to have a license to own a gun and/or who is allowed to purchase such things. It’s the right to bear arms not purchase arms. lol

Other is arming everyone. Kids and personnel. It just may have to be something citizens know. In case of civil war, terrorist acts, declaration of warfare, or civil/organized crime.

It should just be another life skill every person is able to have if these “weapons” are so necessary as a right or freedom or something.

Then just as there’s a fire extinguisher, every teacher should be able to hand out weapons for the kids and they themselves carry a weapon, so that any trespassing shooter or arising threat can be dismantled efficiently.

It’s one of these extremes. Not looking like a real good option. I don't know who’s actually behind all of this.

The other option is leaving things as is, and adults doing a better job of cultivating youth instead of provoking and angering youth into rebels and suicidal “revolutionaries/ self avengers/proclaimers with a “cause.””

Besides if only teachers have weapons they can use them wrongfully or even use it as manipulation against kids. Kids can’t be vulnerable and then expected to be protected by those they’re entrusted with. Before it was just expected everyone remain respectful, civilized, and within the law. Some violated laws. Now it seems no one cares to be respectful or sees the need to be and everyone’s having a free for all.

Which is just a diversion for what’s really important. Building a community and country of tomorrow, that looks out for their people and stands for what’s right. One of the ways of doing that is better handling education, but now they can’t even learn and the grounds of education are being all messed up and ransacked as some war zone.

TRUE Education is what needs to be protected as well as democracy. More so liberty 🗽 and justice. Education cannot be protected with a gun. It can’t be taught with one either. It’s needs to be taught in a room by bright minds leading other bright minds. 🤷‍♀️

This is complex. But I am not against plain clothed security guards who are well vetted, trained and armed. Also if a teacher goes through the proper training to have a concealed carry and an active shooter response I’m fine with them being armed as well (if they choose).

I have a relative who was a victim of a college campus shooting. Although the college police responded quickly and profesional they didn’t respond fast enough. And my relative was on a “gun free” zone campus.

I worked in the US for 10 years, half of which I subbed as a Teacher/Lecturer, I had a CCW for 9 of those 10 years. the principals of the schools that I worked at never knew that I carried everyday. In the scenario above the schools would not be paying for the firearms, ammunition, nor the training, and any staff members (not just administrators & security) who wish to carry and pass the training requirements should be allowed to do so, and in doing so it would create more uncertainty in any Spree Shooters mind as to who would be armed, which is exactly they kind of doubt that needs to be planted in the mind of a Spree Shooter, At the moment the vast majority of US schools are soft targets with no hardening of the school buildings to limit the possibility of a Spree Shooter walking into the school during the school day.

When I taught schools were not as soft as they are today, back then it was normal for students to bring their rifles and shotguns to school so they could go hunting after classes. If find armed teachers are a problem for you the at the very least support the hardening of the schools, so during the school day there is only one access point into the school building, through a SALLY PORT built to hold a shooter long enough for the Sheriff/Police Dept to get to the school and deal with the shooter.
