2 reasons :
1. They do so in order for others to form/continue having a good opinion of them and a terrible opinion of you. Therefore, they do so to prevent their social status from getting tarnished while destroying yours.
2. They are hoping that you find out in order to get some portion of your attention back in order for them to feed off of you by calling you insane/gaslighting you in any way or form.

Honestly ignoring a narcissist is the best thing you can do because deep down they're insecure individuals who thrive on control, power and drama. By the ignoring and not reacting, you'll take that power away because they'll soon realise how steadfast you are.

If you want to outsmart a narcissist especially if it's a work colleague, simply document their poor behaviour and report them to HR.
