Did you have more money left over at the end of the month 4 years ago? Are you more secure in your home now or 4 years ago? Do you think the country is moving in the right direction now or was it better 4 years ago?
Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yYes? I went through some pretty life altering ordeals in the past 4 years. Some that have not fully resolved themselves. I ended employment at a job I held over 20 years. I caught Covid, spent some time in the hospital, and am now trying to put my life back together. I've since went into business for myself and so far am making more than I made in my BEST year at my previous job. I'm an optimist so while my future isn't fully certain I like to think I'm better off. We'll see how things play out.

I moved up in rank, enjoyed the hefty pay raise that went along with it, I do more side jobs, and have made some very wise financial investments, and my rental property is worth more now, and the rents have gone up.
Granted my cost of living has also gone up, and that is because of the Biden administration, yet my gains have outweighed my losses.24 Reply- 1 y
@Fireguy17 Yes, some people have made out. Especially if you have rental property or work for a municipality. They all seemed to get hefty raises. I got a measley 3% raise that was way less than how much costs have gone up.

ya, it sucks.
We used to go out to eat maybe once a week, now it is more like once a month.
The prices are just ridiculous. What we could both eat for, now it is twice as much.
I get it, their costs have gone up so much they have no choice.
At local place I was talking to the owner and he said he used to pay between 14 and 18 dollars a box for fish for his fish fry on Fridays, now it is close to 40 bucks for the same box of fish if he can even get it.
I have no idea how families can make it now.
Kids are bottomless pits.
A box of air with a few chips in it costs 8 bucks - 1 y

1 yI’ve found that, I think eight presidents in now, that my life usually stays pretty much the same independent of whoever occupies the White House. Trump’s tax plan cost me about $4,000 per year due to newly disqualified deductions, but nothing that’s drastically impacted my life.
15 Reply- 1 y
um hav you noticed your grocery bill?
- 1 y
@strateguy632 well, firstly, I try to perceive life in such a way where I don’t judge the quality of my life by how much money is or isn’t in my pocket.
Secondly, that’s not really how economics work in a capitalist system. The President doesn’t set or strongly influence the costs of goods and services. The pandemic also throws everything out of whack, that was a highly unusual scenario. But the bottom line is that, had we not had a pandemic at all, the desired inflation rate today relative to 2020 is not much higher than experts would anticipate.
Inflation has cooled quite a bit, so we should probably asking corporations why their goods and services charges aren’t cooling with them. That’s how they do it. “Oh no, sorry, guys, we gotta jack the prices up. Inflation and all, you know?” But they never come back and say “great news! Our costs are down again, so we’re bringing back the old prices!”, do they?
And DEflation would be even worse for the economy. If prices start dropping, consumers notice and bet they’ll drop even more, and then it’s a lot of “I’ll wait til next month”, or “I’ll buy it around the holidays when it’s on sale even more.” That’s bad for businesses and their cash flow.
Economics are very complicated, we can’t just look at it so simplistically like “my gas costs too much” and “oh my god, $5 for eggs?” It’s way more complicated than that, consumer prices alone aren’t reliable indicators for the overall strength of the economy, and our politicians can’t just wave a wand and make it all perfect. - 1 y
Glad it benefitted you👍 I was heavily dependent on travel mileage, and I think that’s what my tax lady said was no longer deductible, or was heavily capped. Just didn’t break my way🤷♂️ But if $4k is making or breaking me, I have earning power/spending problems, not tax problems, haha

1 yprices climbed crazy fast rate.
even cnn admitted their beloved had "wrong" economy policy. when it is bad instead of news cnn said "things are not terrible" as if that is news. frauds pretending to be a news company.
inflation was a huge rate.
i don't earn more now and even if i did more i pay more rent now and money doesn't hav power to buy stuff, need 20% more for cinema ticket!
inflation rate was faster than during trump who knows and knew business and did unpopular tarriff on import which was correct and real benefit.

1 yI am not I could go out of business after 44 years. Economy has hurt. Some of my customers lost their jobs. Rent raises have caused some to go to Apartments instead of renting a house. High gas prices continue. Parts and trimmers continue to go up. Any increases in pay is lost to raising prices. Taxes are up. Insurance is going up. Gold at record highs. That only happens when people get nervous.
Liberals for Harris are saying things are good because they hate Trump. They would lose jobs, and house to keep Trump out of White House.

u 1 yI think so, mostly because we are guaranteed protections for lgbt with democrats in charge. I'm fearful that if Trump gets re-elected that they are gonna reverse the ruling on gay marriage which will definitely affect me.
Listen, I like some of the republican talking points but I have to side with democrats on this particular topic310 Reply- 1 y
Literally in project 2025 which will be enacted if he becomes president it talks about getting rid of gay marriage as well as other lgbt protections. Trump has already enacted policies against lgbt in his first term which thankfully were rolled back.
We aren't looking for extra rights. We just want the same rights and that means being able to marry. For trans people it means them getting their meds and being able to modify their body to match their specified gender just like I could go out and get a breast augmentation and nobody would bat an eye.
I could go on but there's really no equality when it comes to trump. He's only about himself. - 1 y
Trump has nothing to do with Project 2025. Everyone keeps saying this. However Project 2025 wants to repeal Biden's policies of giving extra benefits to LGBT families. Things like encouraging single motherhood and offering welfare to single mothers. It recognizes that at the nuclear family is important in success.
- 1 y
What extra benefits do we supposedly have compared to heterosexual/gender conforming people?
- 1 y
If you are a single mother you get welfare. The more kids you have the more money you get. This is true for a lot of groups but it includes the LGABTQ community. I know that you are not a welfare scammer but it is out there. The only people not eligible are families with a father and a mother.
- 1 y
That's not lgbt exclusive. There are tons of heterosexual parents who get welfare. So I ask again, what rights to lgbt have that heterosexual people don't?
- 1 y
Yeah, but it also talks about ending equal protection laws against lgbt people, ending transgender care with Medicaid and Medicare, and rolling back the Supreme court decision about gay marriage.
That's horrible for the lgbt community. - 1 y

Many stores have closed and people are forced to do their transactions on-line, pay for shipping, wait for delivery, and go through the hassle of returning items through the mail. Most on-line vendors have shit customer service and you are forced to deal with AI.
Some really good restaurants closed forever, due to the bogus covid mandates.
The price of eating at a restaurant has become ridiculous.

The whole world has experienced inflation, and most of the money went into the pockets of big business.
The country hasn't (yet) gone to "In four years you don't have to vote again, we'll have it fixed so good you're not gonna have to vote" (Trump) or "I want Christians to have power. And with that power, I want it to be wielded righteously.
What does that mean? It means crushing our enemies and rewarding our friends." (Joel Webbon, Trump supporter).

If they were still living home I'd be in worse position because I'd be spending more on food and electricity. I'm saving money on electricity, insurance and cable but I'm spending more on food since it's more expensive now than it was 4 years ago

@ProbablyClueless You are the man. You were smart enough to take advantage of bad situation. I lost my job and collected unemployment for 18 months. I was one of those people that you read about that made out better on unemployment. It was like the government paid me to fix up my house.
- 1 y
Oof! I'm glad the government came through for you, but I'm sorry to hear that unemployment paid you better than work.
Have you been able to stay ahead, or have you started taking on debt again? Apparently people paid off their debt during the pandemic but then stacked all their debt back up in the years since.

1 yNo. SS increases are only about one-third of my actual COL increases. Was commenting to a guy in line in food store. The lady ahead of us had a $400 tab. I told him that would be food for about 2 months for my wife and myself. He commented that he doesn't even know how the kids nowadays can even consider having a house- buying or renting. I know we're not the only one. But we own our house with no mortgage remaining, own our cars clear, only charge what we can pay off each month (read that as zero interest for our CC's), etc. And at the end of the year, we DO come out on the positive side of the ledger, more than we can say for our state or country!

@CrazyGirl2 I was just about to retire in 2020 because I lost my job because of Covid. I ended up finding a new job because I saw how crazy prices were getting. I just retired a month ago. I figured if Trump gets elected he will fix the inflation problem and it Harris gets elected we are all screwed anyway so I might as well retire sooner rather than later.

I wish you all the good fortune you deserve. I’m confident, that either way, we will be okay as a nation. Well, either that or we won't, and then none of this will matter.
