I love Man of Steel. <3
I lean toward Superman's view, except I don't believe it's possible for mankind to coexist peacefully with anyone. We are too selfish, too ambitious, too controlling, and too afraid to do so. Look at Bruce Wayne's reaction to the mere thought of Superman being evil.
But, I would pursue coexistence, despite knowing it's unlikely to work out. FDR was right: "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". Fear drives us to fight against anything we don't fully understand or control. This is a foundational problem.
We truly are a pathetic species. I would say the majority of humans are run by their fear, greed, and selfishness.
The truly kind people are the ones that even in the worst circumstances are willing to give and share what little they have, and you'll find that most humans do not have that capability.
@HawkPerception Sad, but true. :(
I guess not. It's not fair, and humanity generally sucks anyway, maybe that other civilization is better

I am glad that you included that picture of Michael Shannon as General Zod even though it's from "The Flash". In "Man of Steel", his performance as Zod was spectacular and he should have been nominated for an Oscar for it. Shannon's Zod was iconic like Heath Ledger's Joker.
And it all boils down to the best moment in "Man of Steel"...
With that speech, we ask ourselves "Is Zod really a villain?" "What would we do in his place?" which is really what you are asking with this question.

I'll answer your question in a different way, though...
We already do that and not for existential reasons.
Think of all the "civilizations" we destroy when transforming natural habitats for our own desires. A new development somewhere either kills or displaces countless animals... it alters the local ecology. Those doing the developing don't give a rat's ass; it's all about the money.
If we destroy "civilizations" when transforming natural habitats, it's because man in general thinks he's above nature, a supreme being, instead of being part of nature and just another inhabitant species of this planet.
Earlier civilizations, and certainly tribes living in close contact with nature, will only take from nature what they need for their own survival.

That's what Zod thought about humans having a civilization of "squalor" because the Kryptonians were more advanced
I feel like this is just a bigger version of the trolley problem lol
Ultimately if it was exclusively my choice and the choice was between the destruction of everything or the destruction of one civilization, I would choose the single civilization. We’re humans, we want to live, we want to keep going. It would be a tragedy, one I might not allow myself to survive over a longer period depending on my mental health, but I know I’m too much of a coward to become a proper martyr.
Yes. I would send the vast majority of them to another world so they can go fuck that one up, and then that civilization will kick them out too. I would keep behind a handful of people who would be fairly decent and we could restart the earth together. And form a much better society🙂
Given the technology required to cross between star-systems is far in advance of the technology required to terraforming countless uninhabited planets.
Remember go back a hundred million years and we humans might find earth rather difficult to live on. That means terraforming which would very likely be necessary regardless.
So for them to want our planet as is rather than simply start fresh on one of the countless closer planets they would in cosmic terms need to be extremely similar to us, and have the technology to move large populations here but not so far in advance as to allow them to as easily terraforming anther planet.
Which suggest they are not soo far ahead of us, and have found a wormhole technology most likely.
The odds of similarity and proximity favor someone not from elsewhere in the universe but very close to us in just a nearby dimension from anther version of Earth.
I only know of earth so if the atliens on mars gotta die 🤷♀️
Lmao 😂
Unless their civilization had true perfection and peace and happiness (which is not attainable in this fallen state of the universe), hell yeah.
Sorry, but you protect your own. Call me crazy but if Americans were going to be killed unless I pushed a button and bombed every other country, I'm bombing everyone. Your question is the same scenario, just on a larger scale.
Damn you're definitely a patriot
Well, I was born here 🤷♂️
As much as the system/government has messed up, America is still the best country in the world by many important standards (such as freedom). Having an immigrant parent and having spent time living in a third world country, I know I've been fortunate to grow up in America. It would be a d-bag move to allow it to be destroyed 🤷♂️
Hmmm... is there an option to apply a selective process? Like leave all the politicians behind.
No, we can die out. Our bodies are too weak and short-lived for space travel, anyways. Maybe we'll stop trashing the planet and survive until the next big meteor but I doubt it. Some idiot will probably create a plague in a lab or something.
In other words destroy one civilization to save another. No!
Both your country and mine have already done this. It's no big deal. :)
Yes. Self preservation goes beyond the individual to the species
I thought this character was great. He was doing the right thing for his people.
Unfortunately, superman was doing the right thing for us and he ultimately won.
History tells us the strongest wins. Then writes the history to show why.
No. I would find a way to save both or earthlings would die.
No, I would let everyone die in a heartbeat without second thought
IMHO, Earth will not be totally "doomed" until after Christ arrives, and takes His people to New Jerusalem on the new Earth
Yeah but not because we deserve it
Of course, I'm human after all.
I would go for 50 ~ 50
yes,
No. Kill all humans.
