Should voluntary euthanasia be legalised everywhere or at least be talked about more?

Those who are religious will probably be horrified by this but we have to talk about it. Death comes to us all, but very few meet it peacefully. Most people die in pain. Some suffer long debilitating illnesses. I’m sure nobody wants to live bed ridden and drip fed. I certainly wouldn’t want anyone to wipe my but and wash me, so if I reach old age and I can’t take care of my basic needs I would want to sign up and end my life. I would like to die with dignity. By doing so I would reduce the burden on the state and the planet. I don’t know what others think.

I don’t disagree in theory, but as we see in countries with euthenasia -they also have socialized healthcare, and they’re encouraging otherwise healthy people to kill themselves to save money.

@gatixek710 I don't think its the healthy that are pursuing euthanasia. Socialized health care is really the only way affordable health care can be available but the AMA hated the idea when it was first discussed in the 40s & 50s. As it turns out, there is no real solution to the problem since drug companies, the health care industry and the insurance industry would be put out of business. Many of the countries with some degree of socialized medicine, e. g. the UK have most doctors forming boutique practices- same in some US cities, notably Manhattan and LA- where no insurance is accepted. Everyone is okay with a ~ mediocre health care system that results when the best MDs go this route. It's creating a two tier system and everyone seems okay with that until they or a loved one needs treatment. Any way to alleviate costs would allow health care to become reasonable but insurance companies who contribute nothing but make fortunes from health care are a problem and the small amount of socialized medicine the US has, i. e. medicare is so bureaucratic and costs so much along with pharmaceutical companies- many of whom are located in the US but charge US citizens a fortune for Rx medications to make up for what profits they're not allowed to take everywhere else, add needless costs to process

@Makeushiver that’s not true, sorry. Canada suggested euthenasia for a veteran who was disabled and was tying to get the government to build a ramp for her wheelchair.
