If someone tried breaking in your house but was caught & told the cops they were just breaking in to chat with you peacefully would you believe them?

This is a hypothetical and yeah i know it sounds really dumb but lol please just answer this truthfully.

So you are at home and you hear a noise outside. you look out and notice some person is attempting to break (like they break a window or cause some destruction to your property) into your home but the cops make it there quickly and arrest that person. When they take this individual into custody they give the following statement "I was just trying to have a peaceful chat. i wasn't gonna hurt them!" Would you believe them?

No you do not know them, they are a complete stranger to you. what do you say?

Yes i would believe them that they just wanted to have a peaceful chat with me attempting to break into my home.

No that sounds absolutely ludicrous and not believable

Please believe me when I write this:
If anybody was "caught" breaking into my house at night, the only thing they might possibly be able to say to the police is a few indistinct gurgling sounds as they drown their own blood. But I'm a pretty good shot so more than likely be dead! The 9 mm doesn't have a lot of stopping power, however, 18 9mm bullets tends to stop someone in their tracks. Believe it or not I may pacifist, however, I was taught (and my life experience thus far) has taught me, that if somebody breaks into your house, you have every right to assume they mean you harm! It's one of the many reasons I am so glad I live in Florida… because I will stand my fckin’ ground, until they hit the ground with a lifeless thud!

It's ultimately not up to your personal beliefs it's up to a jury of peers. Probably from a year from now after $1000s of legal fees the defendant can't pay you back. Hold up for something that didn't hurt you all that much.

Relevant to this I had jury duty on what was clear as day self defense use of a gun. People on our jury was ultimately too stupid to understand self defense. So we got a hung jury.

I did have the police stop me breaking into my own house, I explained it was my house and I had left my keys and wallet inside and my car running. They then waited and held the ladder as I broke in, then showed them my driving licence, ID and keys for my car, the police dog looked disappointed in that it did not get to play with me. I changed the door locks later in the week.
