Well, I’d say that, first of all, it’s a badly mischaracterized issue. I don’t think it’s what the detractors think it is, procedurally. Also, due to the nature of that procedure (basically a tiny vacuum, as I understand it), it’s not something you can really easily do after a certain period. I knew someone who had an abortion at three months, because she didn’t know she was pregnant (her BC made her have very infrequent periods, she just started feeling weird, sore breasts, etc, and decided to take a test, and was shocked that it could have happened). The doctors were like “ok, you’re pregnant, and pretty far along, so if you want an abortion, it’s almost gotta be TODAY.”, as the vacuum would no longer be able to handle a fetus developed past that point. I think there must be more invasive procedures after the first trimester, but that’s the point, that shit almost NEVER happens, and if it does, it’s not just based on “ehhhh, I don’t think I want a kid”, it’s like “the fetus has severe abnormalities” or “the woman is going to die of sepsis if we don’t get this thing out.”

Basically, if you think women are just deciding they’d rather keep Netflix AND Disney+, crunch the numbers, and decide six months in that they just don’t feel like doing it…. take a lap, you’re badly misinformed. These are not things that are happening.

The “whoa, I can’t have a baby NOW” abortions are happening in the first trimester, and a clump of cells get sucked out, and she’s in and out of Planned Parenthood in like 10-15 minutes. This whole idea that fully formed babies are being delivered and killed is PREPOSTEROUS, there’s absolutely no valid evidence of that happening anywhere.

Maybe you don’t like abortion at any point, and that’s your opinion, but all the heinous stories are nonsense meant to shock people, it’s a deliberately dishonest emotional appeal.

All that said…. my opinion is pretty simple: it’s none of my business. There are WAYYYYYYYYYY too many humans alive as it is, like at least two times the amount we reasonably should have, so “preservation and proliferation of humanity” is not any kind of factor to me.

I also can’t help but notice that human society broadly sucks, lmfao, so “the gift of life” should come with a return receipt😂 We’re not doing anybody any favors by making them be alive, particularly with parents who are unable or unwilling to pour themselves into parenting and providing. And before anyone says “adoption”, we’re already struggling to get all the babies adopted, and not for nothing, motherfuckers are out here specifically REQUESTING white babies when they do adopt, so I don’t have much confidence in the adoption alternative. Like “how many kids do YOU plan to adopt?”, is what I want to ask those types.

One thing I’m realizing more and more is a bad policy is “states’ rights.” We can’t be allowing enclaves of primitive attitudes, because not everyone who lives there subscribes to these primitive attitudes, they’re just outnumbered. Not all state governments are “good” or guided by logical, real-life principles, some of these places are governed by Bible thumpers. And you just really can’t have that in the modern world. Government desperately needs to remain secular, and I trust the federal government to adhere to that. 50 states is a lot of places to be pulling the American wagon in different directions. You need nationwide uniformity of social principle and law, that’s SO IMPORTANT.

It’s tough to have the conversation with religious people because it’s so existentially foundational to them, and I want to remain respectful of people’s beliefs, but the fact of the matter is that adherence to religious scripture for ONE religion in multicultural, multi-theist society is extremely limiting to human progress. It’s hard to ask people to believe one thing and socially act differently, I get it, but it’s how it has to go, until the day that a God of some sort physically reveals themselves to all of humanity and proves beyond a reasonable human doubt that religion and this deity are all Real Deal Holyfield. We can’t be doing the “leap of faith” routine with society and law, that has to remain completely separate.

That extends well beyond abortion, but applies to it here for sure. Bottom line: I don’t view it as “murder” in the strictest sense of the word. If we get technical, I guess you can argue that, but in the case of a clump of cells…. I'm not one of these people who believes a soul has been assigned to said clump. So it’s “no harm, no foul” to me. And I just favor the already-established life of an already-alive human over just a potential human, which we can’t truly count on being born until it actually is, there could still be a miscarriage, so a fetus is no sure thing. That’s why we don’t count them in the census, haha

There can be valid reasons for getting an abortion, including mistakes.
Two of my girlfriends had gotten early-term abortions in their early teens because they were young and naive with their first boyfriends. But they learned their lessons and started using the pill for contraception. They also went on to get married and have families later in life.

I have zero problem with chemical abortion that can be done up to 8 weeks after her last period.
I don't even have a problem with abortion up to the end of the first trimester. A fetus doesn't have nerves, a brain or consciousness at that point.

I can't think of a good reason for not doing it by then. With the availability of pregnancy tests, a woman should know that she is pregnant and be able to make a decision within three months.

I do have a problem with later term abortions unless they are for a medical reason.

An abortion is often an agonizing decision, but sometimes it makes the most sense for the mother, her potential child, and others who would be effected.

I have a major problem with serial abortion being used and a form of contraception. That is some callous shit. I wouldn't have a problem with tying the tubes involuntarily of women who are guilty of that. They shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

I personally think it's okay in the early stages and for rape and any medical complications to the mother or baby. I'm not an expert on those things nor do I read about them, I live in a state where it's very legal so idc and I don't know why women in my state care.

I don't think it's okay to promote it as a way to push safe sex as your alternative for not being intelligent. Largely that's what people are against, nobody should have 10 abortions, that's fucking disgusting.

That apart from some adjustments we have it set up fairly well, 2 doctors must okay it. Your own doctor refers you to an abortion service, this is where you go through the assessment, work out how many weeks, ultrasounds, if it’s under 10 weeks or under 24 weeks. Also counselling is provided as it has a huge emotional impact on a girl and also possibly her partner.
Yes I’m pro choice, it’s a freedom that some 3rd world and overly religious ones do not allow or tightly restrict.
I think Iran has better abortion controls than some states in the us.
The fact that in 2024 people say God made the decisions that it’s wrong, would be laughable if it was not such a serious topic, one that it appears religious guys in the US are making for women.

It's pretty horrific any way you cut it. In terms of legality, I'd say it probably makes sense for it to be legal up until some point and then illegal after some point. That line probably should be drawn somewhere between 13 weeks and 26 weeks (3 and 6 months). In the absence of a federal law passed by Congress, it should be determined by the states (in the US context).

In my opinion it shouldn’t be considered a constitutional right to have abortions. I think abortions are okay in situations of rape, incest, or danger to the mother’s life. Also I hate when people say, “My body, my choice!” No it’s another body in your body. If abortion isn’t murder then why when a pregnant mother is murdered by someone, it’s considered a double homicide.
