No, I don't think so. People need something to believe in. Even these days, when religion is under fire from those who wish there were no ethical guidelines to obey, science is slowly evolving into a kind of religion. If You asked most people, they could not explain it to You, since they simply believe it's true themselves. That's actually particularly funny, since unlike key religious dogmas, science is ever-evolving, but those "science believers" will only believe what's already common knowledge at any given point in time. Were they only taught about Newton's physics, they might be willing to stone Einstein for His "heretical" theories.
Then again, Christianity itself will also always survive. We might be few and actively hunted down, but the fewer of us, the more important Our Lord Jesus Christ's gospel will become to us and the purer our actions will become in turn, actually attracting new believers through our example of dedication to His will.
@Tamera952 Oh, was it too hard to understand? Well, if anything, it was complex. To simplify it for You, people tend to worship what they do not understand, so even if the actual religions were lost, science will evolve into yet another religion.
@CalmUntilAbused
People need something to believe in. There is already a wide array of things to believe in, suddenly turning zealous proselyte wasn't necessary lol. Even detrimental to your cause, I think
@Maybe_Maybe_not That largely depends on Your definition of religion. Every single system of beliefs can become a religion if there are enough people that worship either the system of beliefs itself or the being who bestowed said system on them. At the moment, there are two phenomena that might evolve into religions. They are consumptionism (worship of pleasure) and science (worship of the current state of knowledge). Both of these phenomena would find their respective "priests". In the first case, those would be the marketing specialists, in the latter, those would be the scientists. If You believe (quite a recurring word here) that only the religions You know right now can be considered religions, and whatever comes later on will definitely not be a religion, You've got a very simplistic view on faith. It's entirely possible to believe in the current state of scientific knowledge (in fact, most people do it, since they do not understand the underlying principles). And it's also totally possible to worship pleasure if one gets degenerated enough.
I know very well that I believe in things that are not rational, my optimism for example, is a belief, faith. Now you are playing with the words, intended confusionnism or not, to encompass everything into religion or worshipping.
You don't seem to know science that well when you think that people in science worship the current state of knowledge, science is a motion forward, not a set in stone situation like monotheism for example. That is one difference between two worlds. Religion's goal is to answer, Science's goal is to question. There is more to tell but that is a start already.
@Maybe_Maybe_not Oh, but that's what I'm saying and that's what I'm making fun of. Science is a process, but there's an awful lot of people who consider themselves people of science, but still only believe the current state of science and they couldn't even really explain what they believe in if questioned. Those people are believers of something along the lines of a science-based religion, since they take the answers without questioning them, as actual science requires them to.
Then I find it odd that you chose to trust, conceptually, religion over science, when you do recognize the power of process? And even more than trust, downright proselytism
@Maybe_Maybe_not Oh, but I trust both. Science gives me the tools to survive and make this world a better place, while religion gives me a reason to keep living in a hellscape such as the "modern" Western societies (and that's absolutely something science could not give me, since scientifically speaking, staying alive is in no way preferable to dying), as well as a manual as to how to make this world a better place if I ever get a chance to do so.
What are the traits of Western you see to form this a hellscape?
@Maybe_Maybe_not Well... Let's see...
For starters, they are taken over economically by the banking system and big corporations, so that I, as an individual, have a hard time surviving while not bowing down to any of them, or rather outright becoming their slave by taking a series of bank loans for basic housing and amenities that I will not able to pay back before I retire.
Then there are those silent civil wars, particularly the one between men and women, that makes setting up my own family almost impossible for me, since even with my pure intentions, I have to understand that even if I meet a woman I could trust to set up a family with, I'll have to understand that it's totally reasonable for her not to trust me, therefore I will have to slowly break down the walls that shouldn't even be there in the first place, or at least not as thick as I can expect them to be, while the time is ticking.
What's more, there's this widespread affirmation of death and murder. You know, with how abortion and euthanasia are supposed to be human rights. And the supposedly "merciful" euthanasia has already been abused. There was a curious case in the Netherlands when a woman pretty much murdered her mother with the help of a doctor, as her mother decided to withdraw her consent to get euthanised, but it went on anyway. The case was even taken to court, but both of the murderers were found innocent. Or was it "guilty, but unsuitable for punishment due to acting in good faith"? Anyway, killing people and justifying this killing has become a new trend in the West. I do not condone this.
Oh, and then the governments turn more and more totalitarian, while also being much more hypocritical about it than China (and China is actually only authoritarian at this point, since there is probably more economic freedom there than in my own country). And for some reason, it looks like men are slowly becoming Public Enemies No. 1 for those governments.
These are not really the ideal conditions to live in, right? If I had no abstract, religious reason to keep living, I'd rather take my life than endure all this. Well... Since I believe that suicide is a deadly sin, in more than one meaning, it saves me from giving up. And my goal that is supposed to make all this hell worthwhile is to make this world a better place by following the guidance of God Almighty, but also utilizing any tools that science and industry can get me.
Portrayed like this, and given the worldviews you describe then... Yes, it makes sense that you find the Western unpleasant to look at. These are worldviews I don't personally relate to, except the anticapitalist part, so.. I guess it explains why I can't count on catholicism or christianity in general to give me some existential comfort, since I already find it elsewhere
@Maybe_Maybe_not Oh, but I'm in no way anticapitalist. What I described is corporationism, not capitalism. In capitalism, I'd be free to start my own business, and regardless of its scale, there would be a way for me to make it both ethical and profitable. As the market is pretty much locked down by the big corporations, it's not exactly free in this regard, and thus, it's not capitalism.
What's more, it's not just existential comfort that I get from religion. I wouldn't even call it comfort, since no matter how motivated one is, suffering is still suffering at the time You experience it. It's just a reason to endure it. I'd say that the most important thing in my earthly life that I get from religion is a moral compass to guide me through this hellscape I described to You. Of course, once I eventually pass away, there's resurrection and eternal happiness for me to wait for, provided I deserve the latter, but for the sake of keeping it to what we can both perceive in a similar enough way, let's keep to what can be obtained in this earthly life. If I did not have this moral compass... Well, it would be easier to live my life if I embraced hurting other people for my own gain, just like those handling the banking system (again, it's far from capitalist) do, but I don't think I've got it in me to make people suffer on purpose, and even if I do, it would just make me one of the villains.
Well, I don't get how you could view capitalism disconnected of corporations, as they are fundamental to the system that is capitalism. The very concept of capitalism is the road to more capital, with this capital you create bigger structures, bigger scales, bigger profit. This, this idea of small businesses never growing to the point of corporations seems like a speculative fantasy without possibly to exist.
About moral compass, well, you seem to attribute morality to religion only, which is misleading. I don't think philosophy and ethics coming with the field have disappeared when organized religion appeared? Ethics are very well alive everyday, without religious doctrines interfering. Or do you think I am morally incompetent lol?
Maybe just the form of believing in deities, but I don't think spirituality, cults, and ideological pseudo religion will ever go away. It just seems like human nature is pinned to believing in things that cannot see or know. Skepticism will always be frowned upon. To be clear, cults/ideological worship contradict skepticism, not necessarily spirituality. That can go either way.
I certainly hope so! If we are to move on as a species, we’ll need to fully shed those archaic superstition hold-overs. It’s reassuring that the trend has been going in that general direction, without deviation for a long time. Let’s hope it continues.
Never and it shouldn't.

Not in our lifetimes, but I would guess it would. We have access to information like no other era in history. It's literally at our fingertips. And with the information, I personally don't understand how religion is still a thing in this day and age. But it's clear the main reason is that it runs in families.
While it seems that organized religion may decrease in influence in theory, current stats and projections are telling us that religion's influence will remain, worldwide, for many years to come.
Unfortunately you're right. Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa are becoming more religious at a frightening pace.
Before looking at these numbers, I was convinced there was a decrease in religion. Another case of distorted perceptions due to me evolving in some circles only lol
If your speaking organized religion yeah.
As for personal belief that's a very much nah.
Also the question of obsolete is viewed about what one thinks obsolete means.
Cause one could argue it already is for multiple countries, and natural progression shows to be making it more so as times go on.
it has been obsolete for the "normal" person from the get go. it's merely a tool to control people. and it's still effective for that today, if you really wanna use it for that. but besides that, it's still a sort of "less worse" addiction for people for are mentally broken so they are more prone to get addicted.
no because religion will just transform into some other religion
feminism is the fastest growing religion in the west, so is worshipping the pride flag
even astrology can be considered a religion
scientists and evolutionists like Sir Richard Dawkins will continue to worship evolution
humans innately believe in something so religion won't ever become obsolete
God willing!! 😂😂😂 It's such a easily identifiable scam and there's SO MANY marks!!! I don't get it. I never will get it 🤷♂️
No because atheism has no proof to convince people to join.
They just make mocking videos that pushed people to agnostic that " maybe god is real " just to avoid ugly atheism.
@Tamera952 i was not baiting you.
Just wrote my opinion. But you can learn what "ism" means. And read the questions in religion topic here to see just how rotten and immoral atheism is.
Yea, your opinion seems bat-shit crazy, & you don’t explain anything well. That’s why I’m asking you to elaborate & explain what you’re talking about. You also never said who ‘they’ are — & I have no clue what you mean by learning what ‘ism’ means, or how that relates to this — AND (if that weren’t enough) now, you are implying that someone can just read the questions in the religion topic to see how rotten & immoral atheism is? (HUH?) You wanna explain that one?
Did you even read my original answer?
Atheism is the absence of belief - that’s it, nothing more, nothing less. It’s not a movement, a belief system, it’s not rotten, OR immoral.
Yes, after a point in intelligence.
Religion are just a way to bring people in order.. they are bound to be obsolete.
God May still Hold some value, but Religion won't!.
religions maybe... spirituality is essential to humanity
I mean it's been obsolete since day one but if u mean when will it die out I don't know maybe another few hundred years but it is slowly dying out
i think its influence and power will decrease the more we march on into the future but i don't think it'll be completely gone.
To honest all religions are declining, so never ever going to be absolute.
No because there is something spiritual about all of us.
Its just the religion they teach now that is not right
Yes, probably. Even people who are religious, don't really need an official religion, it's all individual.
nope, cause.
One thing that Christians now believe is that Islam is going to take over the world.
@Tamera952 Religion will never be obsolete
Unless apocalypse is tomorrow.
Not a chance. Everyone worships something.
I'll bet you're the type that would say atheism is a religion too... 🙄
I'd describe atheism as people who have no invisible means of support.
It's a belief system. All humans function within a belief system that serves to put creation into boxes we can comprehend. Atheism is simply the belief that there's nothing before or after this existence. Nothing more, no matter how you dress it up.
The issue is proof. You claim I am deluded because I believe in a god you don't believe in. I'll challenge you with the same circular logic atheists use to try to challenge me: prove there's no God or life beyond this existence...
I'm God. Prove I'm not!
Ah, but the burden of proof is on you to prove you are. Even Jesus spent His life proving who He was and guiding His disciples to teach them to help other see that Truth.
So find me witnesses from different cultures who will give a report that they've seen you heal the sick, raise the dead, forgive the unforgivable, get executed and rise from the dead and I'll consider believing your claim.
Oh, you need to raise me from the dead too. After you rise from the dead yourself.
Have faith my son... I work in mysterious ways...
@DrPepper12 I LOVE it. 🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂
Yes it will. When Jesus returns :)
Oh... But when Our Lord Jesus Christ came for the first time, He pretty adamantly stated that He did not come to void the religion (or, to be more specific, make its scriptures obsolete), but to fulfill it. When He comes back, I don't think it will be much different.
@CalmUntilAbused... since back then the Jews deteriorated, and the ''Christians'' perverted.
Today - ca. 2000 years later - the situation is different.
I have faith that Jesus knows that, too :)
@laly520 yes in future it will be,
Not on this earth….
I hope so
Not for at least another 100-200 years
Religion will never become obsolete
not as long as people believe
Perhaps
It already is
No it won't!
Let's hope so
