Do you think religion will become irrelevant in the future?

Question

In America the percentage of people identifying with Christianity is in the 60s.

In Europe religion has been declining for many decades with nations like UK, France and Germany either Christian minority or very soon to be a Christian minority while nations like the Czech Republic and Sweden religion is almost extinct.

I have read that even in the Arab would secular ideas are starting to rise and Islam is falling.

I am a Desist I believe in God but I don’t follow any organized religion because men can be corrupted and those religious institutions are run by men.

However I’m not sure I would be happy or sad to see religion decline.

Of course not- but you're making a mistake; you're thinking that a religion being secular means it's not a religion. Humans are hard-wired to make demigods of their heroes and full gods of whatever forces they put in the place of gods- look at the slavish devotion to "science" we've seen over the last three years that had nothing to do with the actual scientific method. Look at the gods that Stalin and the State became in the USSR, or the Ahriman-figure that Trump has become for the faithful. Funnily enough, he's MUCH more taken as a divinity (if an evil one) by his opponents than by his voter base.

Far more common than either of these, however, is the god of hedonism- sybaritic pleasure and status-seeking are by far the most popular gods among young people today; that said gods are natural, rather than supernatural (like most classical gods) or artificial (like the political ones I mentioned above) doesn't mean they're not gods- at least in terms how their worshipers react to them. It may be theoretically possible for a human being to have no religion- not to simply lack a formal one, or be vague and formless in their faith, but to clearly and truly have NONE- but you're not likely to ever encounter one.

I don't know if I'd say "irrelevant", but I do see waning influence, both in people's lives and in society. At least for a time; it won't be permanent. While the left is busy aborting, transing, and sterilizing itself out of existence (and yes, they  are  coming for our children), religious conservatives are getting married and having children and lots of them. At my parish, it's not uncommon to see families with upwards of seven or eight children; some families have more than ten. It might take a generation or two, but I think there will be a very significant turnaround.

I don't think religion will ever disappear because the world needs God and I believe God makes sure he stays in people's lives. If a country is mostly atheist, it might be that people pretend to be atheist to fit in with he culture or government rules, but eradicating something so typical in human hearts, will never happen in a universal or globalized way. I know that in North Korea where christians are tortured, some of the guards that arrest Christians are secret Christians themselves and don't arrest the people they are told to, preferring to lie and say they did not witness any spiritual activities by them.

A lot of atheists like the idea of community you get with religion and a lot of the moral stuff makes sense. It's the god bit they don't agree with. I could see religion becoming less religious and more a community hub for guidance and mental support in the future. It'll exist, just without the god bit.

no. because in principle, you always need delusional ideology to make people follow your words. so as long as there is some sort of hierarchy, there will be religion. and it is in the very nature of everything that there is "hierarchy". so we're not getting rid of that any time soon.

No, it will take a different form though. Political affilation is the new religion in the future. And its getting indoctriniated in people through the media. Its been always like that and always will be. People find things to believe in strongly and be bigoted about it. It used to be god, now the laws and political agendas

People are sheep. They will follow ANYTHING that is popular for the purpose of survival.

You know what scientists say about those who are isolated. They're very lives are threatened. This rung more true in the past though.

In a way but not entirely. I think there will be a shift away from the traditional religions but something else will get a similar following.

yes, only old people go to church anymore. I think that is part of the problem in Americsa. Nobody believes in anything. I suppose that is in the communist playbook.

That will never happen. There will always be people that are religious because of family traditions, to help them feel peaceful and to seek out spiritual guidance.
