Why can't Democrats take accountability for their poor decisions?

Imagine this fictional scanerio:

Tommy is the eldest child of his family. He just graduated high school and is heading off to college.

Recently, his family faced hardship and is barely getting by. Tommy needs books for his classes, but cannot produce the funds himself to buy them. Tommy's dad, Phil, pulled his son aside. "Tommy, you know our family is really tight right now, but I know you need these books to get through your schoolwork, so I saved up just enough so you can get them. Son, remember we are proud of you!" Tommy accepts the money and thanks his dad.

Meanwhile, while Tommy is running an errand at the superstore, he spots a new game console that he has desired since it was announced earlier that year. Tommy just remembered his dad gave him money moments ago. "Hmmm... should I really?", he asks himself. Tommy's excitement grew while he thought more and more about the fun he and his friends could have in his dorm. Tommy caves, and instead of using the money for books, he spends it on the new gaming system.

Tommy returns to his dad and asks for more money. His dad replies, "Son, I thought I already gave you all the funds needed to buy your books." Tommy then explains to his dad that he bought something he really wanted instead. His dad was enraged. He tries to explain to his dad that video games are "educational" because they train his brain to "respond quickly" and "think critically".

... now, do you expect Tommy's dad to fork over more money?
