I don’t go out of my way. The only people I encounter talking politics in my everyday life are all MAGA folks, just being loud. There’s not really anything to be gained by engaging with them. I do plenty of it on here, lmao.

Also, in this particular case there’s no way for me to discuss it without attacking someone’s character or intelligence if they want to know why I’m not voting for Trump, and that’s awkward, and some of them I need to maintain a non-contentious relationship with due to forced proximity. But it’s not like they have deep insights to share as to our economic policies vis-à-vis the Pacific Rim, these people are generally uninformed idiots just operating off of their feelings of inadequacy and usually some brand of ignorant social beliefs and/or perceived grievances. If brains were lard, they couldn’t grease a skillet😂

So we aren’t just like “oh, I think we should have more government regulations and corporate taxes”, “oh, really? I disagree, I think lowering corporate tax burden would stimulate job creation….”, etc, etc, and you just debate normal shit.

No, these people are telling me the 2020 election was stolen, January 6th totally wasn’t what you think it is and was really AntiFa and BLM and the Feds in disguise, and Covid and climate change are a hoax, and Joe Biden is really dead and was replaced by an actor, and the Obamas still run the show, but also Trump is secretly still President, and Democrats are drinking baby blood and sex trafficking children, and the entire WNBA is about to get cleaned out and trans-women are going to replace every player JUST when the Caitlin Clark vs Angel Reese rivalry was heating up and getting good, and they’re aborting 3 year olds, and there’s drag queens and kitty litter in the schools, I saw a rainbow at Target, inflation is at 72% and my gas is $20 a gallon, Disney made the mermaid Black, Tim Walz stole our camo hats, THEY’RE EATING THE DUAWGS, and it’s all because of iLLeGaL iMMiGrAnTs, nOoOoOoOo, iT’s aLL KaMaLa’S fAuLt, GAHHHHH, i’M meLTiNnNnGgGgGg….”

In short…. its all laughably silly. Whether enough Americans aren’t morons…that’ll be a nail-biter. But even if they manage to win, it never makes their arguments factual, logical, enlightened, or worthy of seeing sunlight. And the reason they make these arguments in the first place is because they have forced themselves to reject facts in favor of information that’s less factual but more friendly to what they WANT TO BELIEVE IS TRUE. It’s a willful divorce from reality. Being able to feel like they’ve bested me in a debate is honestly the very least of their worries, they have way bigger in-house problems than anything I can present them.

But anyway, yeah…. to debate them is basically like: “So you support a guy who has been found civilly liable of rape, had an affair with a pornstar while his wife was home with their newborn and paid her off to not talk about it and hurt him in the ‘16 election, has stolen national security documents and shown them off to laypeople, is a known fraudster in business, stiffs contractors who do work for him, has had to claim bankruptcy at least half a dozen times (while they prop him up as the ultimate businessman), has disrespected the military on several occasions (at least once confirmed, and the others suuuuurrrrreeeeeee sound EXACTLY like what he’d say), has been charged with 96 felony counts and approached every case trying to get off on technicalities rather than strolling into court and acquitting himself on the facts, is awaiting sentencing for one guilty verdict already, and this is just scratching the surface, I’m sure I’m forgetting many other obvious ridiculous things he’s done or said, and that adds to the point…. there's been so much bullshit, I FORGET stuff, stuff that if it was the only scandal another president had, I’d never forget it. But it’s just a raindrop in the ocean with this guy, it’s absolutely unbelievable….. and with all this known information, good sir or madam, with MUCH MORE evidence to infer that most or all of these things are true than there is to lend any credibility to the idea that it’s just some intricate series of conspiracies carried out by scores, if not hundreds, of nefarious often-not-even-connected actors, all saying roughly the same types of things about Trump after dealing with him, so it’s not likely that ‘everyone is lying except Trump, even people we previously said were allies, many times over, consistently’….. WHY, when confronted with ALL OF THIS that I just spelled out, and more I’ve even forgotten or omitted for some semblance of brevity, would you think Donald Trump is the answer to all of our problems, and is at least WAY less threatening than the scary fake-Black Indian lady that laughs a lot and Trump claims never worked at McDonald’s 40 years ago like she says? And how do you rationalize this decision to yourself while still believing you’re a decent human?”

There’s nothing to be gained, other than frustration. I can bang my head off a brick wall for like ten seconds, get the same effect, and save hours of my day. So I just keep my mouth shut while they run theirs, usually.

When I was 18, and my first year voting I voted for Bernie Sanders, then Bernie didn't get in so I voted for Hillary. For 2020, I voted for Biden. In 2020 i voted Republican for the first time and that person was Nikki Haley. I'm voting blue for women's reproductive rights and that's my main issue
