In Colne, England, last week a farmer was arrested after catching two foul mouthed trespassers trashing his land on a quadbike for the second consecutive day. After they allegedly threatened him and got aggressive the farmer made a citizens arrest and delivered the pair Bound & Gagged to the police station only for the farmer to be the one to get "arrested" Was the farmer right or Wrong?

Unfortunately the UK cops don't have a clue what country life is about. They think food comes from a supermarket and don't consider how it got there.
Farmers in Britain have had a rough time since one of their brethren was jailed for murder after shooting two guys that attacked him with hammers and knives in his home a few years back. Still got no idea how that one wasn't successful as self defence.
It's time we start backing the farmers up. Countryside policing is insane as it can take too long for effective law enforcement to arrive and prevent potentially hundreds of thousands in damage being done.
The little I know about citizen's arrest is 1) It really is a thing, and 2) You need to be damn careful doing it or YOU will be the one in trouble. You can end up in both legal trouble and civil trouble.
There is right, and there is legal. They are not always the same.
I can understand his frustration, it’s probably really miserable work to have to police your own land from regular trespassers. While this may have been a momentary, personal idea of justice, he was in the wrong for doing it as this is assault, which I’m pretty sure is a higher charge than trespassing. These specific people may not trespass again, but that won’t stop everyone who doesn’t care or just wants to.
He has every right to defend his property, and if this falls under that then fine, but it doesn’t really change anything except for those 2 kids. If more kids on more bikes want to go around on his land, I doubt he can be expected to catch and hogtie them every time
These two guys will now be ridiculed for life where they live. I can understand why he did it but the fact is under uk law once you've incapacitated an intruder you're supposed to stop. I would have just made them sit quietly in a muddy puddle until the police came.
I'm going to make a prediction here, the case won't make it to court or it'll be reduced to a minor driving offence.
That farmer is a hero. All he did was restrain the criminals and deliver the to the cops. He didn't even hurt them like they deserved.
What the fuck are people in England allowed to do? Call out, "See here, you hooligans. Wait right there like good chaps whilst I call the authorities."
What a screwed up country. It's almost like they encourage criminality.
Makes disposing of trespassers yourself so much less of a hassle and a headache and risk. Besides if these intruders would disappear forever, it would be better for the general society.

Well, they’re called four-wheelers, and trespassers trashing your property can be shot in most states if the person feels reasonably threatened for their life. If you tell them to leave and do not and they come racing towards you, etc

The sad thing is. If those kids would have run into a wire fence and had their heads removed. He would be paying for it the rest of his life! He did well! Should have given them their first spanking regardless of their age!

Where the farmer went wrong was he gagged and delivered them to the police. What he should have done when he captured them, was tie them up so they couldn't escape then call the police to come get them.
