The Artic more likely as the ice melts. If you look at the globe from above you see how close Russia, Canada, America, Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia etc are. The ice melting opens up shipping routes and access to oil/gas resources and other untapped minerals.

Territorial disagreements have already begun for control. You remember trump testing the waters with Denmark to buy Greenland from them, well that's not trump being a moron but a demonstration of US intrest.

Russia has already begun building artic military bases in their northen territories. The US in 2022 has set up a new airborne division trained to fight in the Artic, so 10-15,000 men. US forces have been training in Norway for Artic combat these last few years.

Antarctica I'm not so sure because of its distance from Russia and China and the fact that really only the US, Britain, France, Australia and some of the smaller NATO countries have and real force projection capabilities. Whatever is there in Antarctica we do not know except to say that government's don't want people going there without their say so. Call me a conspiracy theorist but there is more to Antarctica than we are being told.
