I hate the Greeks because they stole Turkey's food and folk dances.

1 yI've heard people complain about thievery in some of the bigger cities like Athens and Thessaloniki, and on some of the islands, but I didn't really have any problems. Only thieves I encountered were Gypsies.
I think Turks are the ones who are thieves. At every turn someone is trying to scam you.I'm so sick of this stereotype. How could the Greeks steal it, if Greek culture predates Ottoman culture? They're Greeks were in Anatolia long before the Ottomans. When you're neighbors and have a shared history, there are gonna be cultural crossovers. I would never accuse another culture of "stealing" something. We have "Polish" food that's actually German, Jewish and Russian food, but we call it "Polish" and those groups don't get offended or say we stole it. You Turks have some kind of complex.
Maybe they're similar, but I don't think they're identical at all

The gyros in Greece were WAY better than your Durums and Kebabs. The EUROPEAN versions of Turkish food were better, but the ORIGINAL, Greek food was WAY better

You can fool ignorant uninformed people, but you can't full ME, especially since I've been to both countries

Also, a lot of Turkish music was influenced by Arabic and Italian music.

@Levin I'm not Greek. My screen name is just an alias.
Eh, it's fine. The borders are fine the way they are. Resettling such vast amount of territory would be challenging. The only thing I'd like is to see is Mt. Ararat returned to its rightful owners.
Thanks for the offer though. That was very kind of you. I don't know why everyone says British people are assholes. - 1 y
Actually, maybe we can meet half way and maybe you could at least make Turkish people Christian.

I do not deny and will not deny that Greeks are thieves. We also have licensed dishes at least and they even translate these dishes into their own language and serve them to the people. They are thieves.
- 1 y
Well then consider payback for 400 years of Turkish occupation and your for scumbag Ataturk kicking them out of the country which THEY built.
- 1 y
- 1 y
But their behavior too. They're two faced and untrustworthy.
- 1 y
What makes you feel that way, and care about Mt. Ararat? I strongly support this stance, by the way. Also, Arstakh.
- 1 y
It has no significance to Turks or Muslims. It's a sacred site to CHRISTIANS. And even though it's not in Armenia anymore, it's still a symbol of Armenia and is more synonymous with Armenia. You can see it in the background of every pic of Yerevan. It just makes no sense for it to be in Turkey. In the 90s, archaeologists couldn't even go there to search for Noah's Ark because Kurds were killing them. Turkey took control of it and doesn't even do anything with it. It would serve a much better purpose if it was back in its native land.
Istanbul they at least did something with. But Mt. Ararat? It's completely useless to them. Just give it back! Ah yes, the od "Gypsies (Romani) are thieves" stereotype. No wonder they're still subject to persecution. As a member of a typically despised group, I think that old saw disgusting.
- 1 y
It's not a stereotype. I even saw a French travel documentary where some Gypsies straight up told the host they're being nice to him 'cuz it's day time, but he better not come back at night😂

Anonymous(18-24)1 yThat's interesting, coming from the biggest cultural thieves and appropeiators in the Middle East.. You guys, have stolen land from other people, the native Anatolians, traditions, culture and food from other people in the Mediterranean and the Middle East. In Turkish cuisine almost all seafood dishes are of Greek origin, (including fish names) some of the most popular ones; lakerda, pickled mackerel is same in both languages, however it is a borrowed word from latin “lacerda” which means “mackerel”. Same with shrimp, which is “karides” in Turkish, also comes from Greek word “garides".
Also, one of your most famous pastries, Kadayif is an appropriation of a Levantine dessert called Qatayef. Same goes for Dolma food, which as suggested by The Oxford Companion to Food and Wikipedia, likely stems from Armenian culinary traditions before becoming integrated into Turkish cuisine and pilaf, which has its roots in Persian cuisine. Even the word Yunan that you call the Greeks is stolen from old Persian

Opinion Owner1 yThe origins of dolma, as suggested by The Oxford Companion to Food, likely stem from Armenian culinary traditions before becoming integrated into Turkish cuisine.[9] William Pokhlebkin, a specialist on culinary history and cookbook author, contends that the dish's inception traces back to Armenian culinary heritage:[10]
"From the 17th to the early 19th century, Armenia was divided between Turkey and Iran. During this period, Armenia's economy, its human and material resources declined, but its spiritual and material culture remained unchanged, and Armenian cuisine did not perish. On the contrary, Armenians contributed to the cuisine of the Seljuk Turks, so many truly Armenian dishes later became known in Europe through the Turks as, allegedly, Turkish cuisine (for example, dolma)."[10]

Opinion Owner1 yby the way at least 1,375 words in Turkish are loan words from Turkish and 6,516 are loan words from Arabic. The Turks are a fake nation. You've stolen land, food, culture and language from other people, Greeks, Armenians, Kurds and Syrians that have been living in West Asia and the Middle East for centuries before the Turks arrive and slaughter them.
You don't even have an alphabet of your own, you're using the Latin alphabet

There are many Greeks living in France, although I have never been in contact with them. I don't think they are bad people. They didn't do anything wrong, except that many of them have a good attitude towards Russia, but the Turks are the same in this topic

Zelensky violently targeted priests and churches in his own country. His regime abused homosexuals, tortured Russians and suppressed free speech. Russia accidentally dropped a bomb on Poland and Zelensky was immediately calling for NATO involvement.
If Zelensky is such a great leader, why did his own people attempt to depose him right before the war?

Well, the one I can confirm is 100% true is Zelensky pushing for NATO involvement when that bomb was dropped in Poland, without an investigation. Because I saw the live meeting on TV.
The others I won't debate you on as I can't find proof, but I remember hearing and reading about it

History tells us that the Greeks came to plunder the Indian subcontinent and they looted and destroyed the western part of India (which is now Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan).
They were defeated near the Indus river. Though they defeated the local king Porush, they looted him too.
But the plunder was so great that all their whole loot was on one side and the loot of Gandhara (Kandahar) and Porush's kingdom was on the other side.
Then when Chandragupta Maurya re-unified the subcontinent, he again drove the Greeks out of the border of Porush's kingdom.
Later his great grandson Ashoka again divided India for decentralized rule.01 Reply1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Is that why they got so fat? Your should be honoured if that's true , they didn't steal it , they may have copied it , that's a positive.

Anonymous(36-45)1 yThe Hellenic empires were way tf before modern Turkey. It's more likely that Greek culture played more of an influence on Turkish culture, than vice versa. Past tense. Modern day cultural impact is definitely Turkey over Greece. And it's not even sort of close.
We can just appreciate each other instead of having a culture war though. I grew up listening to Fedon, who was a mix between both cultures. If you like old school Turkish music, you'll like him. Underappreciated compared to giants like Ibrahim Tatlises, obviously.

Exactly, they were too lazy to built mosques from scratch so they just took churches and covered up the frescos and added a minaret
Opinion Owner1 y@KostasKouvalis even the great ottoman architect Mimar Sinan wasn't Turkish, he was a Christian Greek taken as a slave when he was a boy. He built all their great mosques, and taj mahal was built by his students who were also Greek.
- 1 y
They don't give any credit to their predecessors. Anything that wasn't built by the Ottomans that hasn't been converted to a mosque, they completely neglect.
Opinion Owner1 y@KostasKouvalis did you see what they did to the hagia Sofia? They painted over art work that was there for 1000 years.

I know, please don't remind me. I didn't know about the art work. The last travel documentary I saw on it, it was still there and I was surprised they didn't paint it over.

Greece and Turkey were part of the Roman empire for 500 years, then part of the Byzantine empire for over a thousand years, and then part of the Ottoman empire for another 4 or 500 years. So they basically have been ruled by the same people for the past 2000 years before the 1900's. Thinking they are not going to have some of the same foods and dances is just retarded

I studied Turkish history from beginning to end and yes, the Greeks are thieves
Opinion Owner1 yYes sure, thats the Turkish version of the history, sure thing it's biased 🙄
Wasn't the Eastern Roman empire or the Byzantine Empire before Turkey, I guess that says it all, the Turkish stole even their land, and now you are coming complaining about a stupid dish 🙄
They gave thw world civilization, democracy, culture what the Turkish gave the world beside genocide and killing? I guess only food. They did not deserve Istanbul, my ancestors took it, which is stealing, but of course, if we were a society that was inclined to exploit like the Americans or the British, would you still say these things? We are not thieves, we will never be.
Opinion Owner1 yWho are you to say they didn't deserve it?
And yes I would still say this, I'm American and my country is stealing and robbing from others every day, at least I'm not a hypocrite who lie to myself and try to polish my country's dark history.
But it doesn't matter what you think actually because you can't change history, if you are so ignorant to know about it, msny others know the truth.
