It's long overdue, and was always a violation of the Constitution.
The primary condition for employment should always be MERIT. Who is the best person for the job? Skin color should be irrelevant.
For some context, at my previous company, I had 23 installers working for me. The only white guy was a Russian immigrant. I had black guys, Mexican guys, Vietnamese guys, a Peruvian, a Mongolian, and a couple of Indians. Their race had zero to do with them getting a job, or keeping it - and I had gone through about 20 other guys who didn't make the cut, based entirely on merit.
This isn't the 1950s, where there WAS real systemic racism. Today, racism exists (because it will ALWAYS exist, just like other crime), but it's not the norm, and it happens at the individual level, and people sue over it and win. Whatever justifications that might have existed for Affirmative Action in 1965 do not exist in 2025.
in my opinion, the only "special treatment" should be for disabled people. If they can be given jobs, even if some accommodations must be made for them, that's great - it's ultimately better for everyone. Not every job can make accommodations, but where it can, that's a good thing.
Otherwise, race should be irrelevant, and hiring should be colorblind.
The 1965 law was a Discrimination law - it actively discriminated in favor of minorities, rather than merely being equality. That's what Affirmative Action is. That is now gone, but the Civil Rights Act, and the many laws built from that which prohibit discrimination based on race, sex, religion, etc. remain in place and in force. Those laws enforce equality and hiring based on merit.
As an American of Mexican descent, I could sue if I was not hired because of my race, or if I was not allowed to apply for a benefit or program because of my race. That hasn't changed and won't change.
Again, you seem to be confused. The Civil Rights Act (a Constitutional amendment) has not changed. It's illegal to discriminate based on race or religion. That's still the law of the land.
What has changed was that Affirmative Action has been abolished. That law, as pointed out by (black) Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, was ALWAYS a violation of the Constitution. It specifically encouraged companies to discriminate on behalf of blacks and other minorities, and in practice, established de facto quotas. This meant that minorities would be hired despite less skill and experience just because they were minorities. This led to a ton of problems because underqualified people rose through the ranks only to fail catastrophically, while more qualified people were not hired or not promoted so that racial "optics" were preserved.
That's the part that has been done away with.
I'm not voting because I'm not 100% if this is the bill I think it is but if this is the one that's getting rid of the DEI departments then I at least approve of that part of it. DEI is supposed to prevent racism from barring qualified people from good positions in well-paying jobs so that they are hired on their merit instead of the color of their skin. The problem is this has created a legal way to make up excuses why not to hire someone just because they don't like them.
With DEI there are certain quotas and number etc. the company needs to fill but this creates a gate keeping culture where the people in DEI hire based on who THEY think deserves it not the workers skill or value. The system lets them cover their tracks and they can cover up their abuse of the system by using the excuse of needing more diverse employees.
A lot of people are talking about how this is giving people an unfair advantage over average white people but especially the men and there is actually a lot of fairness to that argument the deeper you look but it goes deeper than that. We have black and gay people that are being rejected by the DEI departments out of personal preferences like "He wasn't black enough." in the case of mixed-race people or their political opinions for many others.
DEI is an idea that sounds good but creates a toxic unproductive and culty culture that slowly kills every business it touches because it gets used as a tool to discriminate legally which is what it was supposed to stop in the first place. DEI has got to go. That said I'm not sure what the rest of the order says so it might not be all good. Often times nasty things are snuck into these kinds of reforms.
This is sickening tbh
Why? Don't you WANT people hired on their abilities rather than their skin colour?
@FunkyMonkee WHITE people are ALWAYS hired on the basis of skin colour, FunkyMonkee!!!
@beefcakebradybatson Is that why there's so many black people with jobs that whites could do?
Who said anything about race?
EQUAL Opportunity Employment means EVERYBODY gets an equal chance NO MATTER WHAT COLOUR YOU ARE OR WHAT YOU'VE GOT DANGLING BETWEEN YOUR LEGS!!
@FunkyMonkee You mean,"Why don't you n***ers go to the back of the bus and be maids, butlers, etc. as you were supposed to be? Yeah, you revealed yourself, boyo !!!
@beefcakebradybatson Is THAT the way you want it? You sound REALLY racist, to me! In the 30 years that the band I was in existed, we had at least 6 black people in the band! One of which was the leader! And it never bothered me at all!!
Sounds like you should take some English classes. Obviously, you just can't comprehend.

What people need to understand is, yeah we want a hiring process that doesn’t just have an employer choosing staff based solely on what their gender, religion, and skin color is though that is not what’s being offended here.
What is being revoked here are ‘different’ people being turned away due to their gender, religion, and color which makes it harder for them to get hired while people that look like / can relate to the employer get in more often than not. We have on record a study that having a ‘black sounding name’ makes more likely you won’t be hired, in addition we had a ‘women video game employment’ to advance women in the field so a bunch of men showed up pretending to be women…. The issue with that one is, men are more likely to get into the gaming industry than women are and having this ‘handicap’ allows for women to have an opportunity in a field dominated by men (including men hirers which I’ve already stated relating to the employer / hirer betters your chances of getting in even if you are unqualified).
It is basic logic to want to ensure equal opportunity and encouraging all Americans not just people that look / talk / view the world like you, that is truly biased. Without these programs, less hard workers get in who just happen to look different. And I mean McDonalds Employees, Ben & Jerry’s Workers, Video Game Developers, Doctors & Hospital Staff, Business Owners, Politicians, etc. Everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves, having hurdles & barriers will only hurt the American public more. Just because it doesn’t affect you, doesn’t mean you can’t empathize.
*I would like to say Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at the March On Washington which was a march for “Jobs and Freedom” need I remind people…. The man elected to office on his Holiday missed the call sign of history I guess.
This is false.
The Act, which is actually Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (not the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1965) has not been repealed.
Title VII prohibits discrimination in employment; you cannot refuse to hire someone only based on race and other factors (color, religion, sex, or national origin). That is still in effect and there have never been plans to repeal it by President Trump or any other president.
The executive order President Trump signed prohibits preferential treatment based on race and these other factors. You can no longer hire someone just because they are black or Asian, for example.
This type of affirmative action was supposed to be temporary under an executive order signed by President Johnson in the 1960s, but has gone on now for over 60 years, discriminating against better-qualified candidates seeking employment.
Yknow in history class I learned that the country we live in went through the mistakes of the past and decided to make a change to improve so the mistakes wouldn't happen again. Now it seems like everyday we are having to sit and watch people who simply ignore these lessons. Undoing the good things and steps a entire country has made over the course of several decades to improve, in favor of wanting to have it their way.
Everyone thinks they are right for doing the things they do until they realize it damages more things than it fixes, and it takes time and test after test to really realize that, which is why the equal opportunity act of 1965 was put in place. Time after time it was shown and proven that it helped more people than it would've hurt it brought communities of people together and fairly helped give jobs to more americans that needed it. At this rate I wouldn't be surprised if the economy plummets soon
It should have been done long ago. Those kind of programs have been controversial from the start. The theory behind it is easy to understand. But the real world implementation is not like the theory.
We are LONG overdue getting rid of all those kind of programs. People complain about discrimination, so stop fucking discriminating already. You can't have it both ways. Get rid of those programs and finally base it on merit. You can't use a crutch like those programs forever, and they've been in place a long time now. Time to stop discriminating for real, which means getting rid of those programs.
The issue is that without this, people won't hire minorities unless they have to. Yes, it's not implemented perfectly, because as long as racism is rampant, it can't be perfect.
That act was passed right after Jim Crowe was abolished and people still held apartheid ideologies. We're passed that already. We all know that these days "Equal Opportunity" really means "Affirmative Action". How about equal opportunity for straight, White, Christian able bodied people? We have an Equal Employment Opportunity act that no one follows. MLK himself would be totally opposed to affirmative action and the act being used to discriminate against straight, White, able bodied Christian people. A candidate should get hired because they have the credentials, not because their name is Gonzales or Shaniqua.
It's truly telling how people can't distinguish between an executive order versus a repealing of a law. EEOA states that one cannot neither be hired or discriminated based on sex, race, etc. Prior administrations via EO instilled hiring quotas based on race and sex, which is in fact in violation of the the EEOA.
People claiming an EO can somehow repeal a law - it truly shows how poorly educated people are on what an EO is versus repealing of a law. This EO only applies to the federal government.
The so called "Equal Opportunity Act" is just the opposite of what it really does. It gives certain groups preference in hiring over other groups. Trump is levelling the playing field by implementing a merit based system. The best person gets hired and not somebody to fill a quota.
How do you determine between identical credentials but one is name Joe America and the other is some ugly foreign filth like Tomislav Krtalic
@Tomisworthless i would look at other criteria like communication skills or ability to work with others. Maybe look at who is more likely to still be there after a year or look at how long their commute is and how they will call in sick if it was snowing out. I have actually been down that road. I rejected the guy with the pony tail because i think it showed he was not serious.
He can't "revoke" it; only Congress or a Federal Court can do that. However, he can choose not to enforce it, but that is dangerous from a legal standpoint.
This is only the beginning of the coming nightmare, it will be this first then some other Act. Before this is over and the Godfather/ Hitler/ Motherfucker is out of office every working class person, middle class person , minority person will get fucked in some way by his agenda. Once he see's he can get away with what he wants he will not stop. There will be no restraints or laws applied to Corporate/ Billionaire / Millionaire America , if you ain't rich your fucked. This motherfucker is going to put the USA back into the 1890's before the Progressive Era started. Many of the stupid fuckers who voted for him are going to loose their healthcare, so that Billionaire Motherfuckers like Musk can get tax breaks. Revoking this Act is only the start, there will be many more revoked, Older workers will loose any protection next. Motherfuckers like Trump will not stop , every body will be touched by his actions.
I'm not sure his Executive Order revokes the 1965 Act. What it does do is say that it's wrong to hire based on DEI, quotas or race, rather hiring based on qualifications is what should be done.
Besides, it's a 60 year old law... back when there were only males and females... maybe it needs some updating.
If you are not qualified, you are not getting the job, no matter your gender or color. Simple.
No more lesbian firefighters who are gonna blame you for being in the wrong place instead of saving you.
As an Aussie, that sounds terrible for you Americans. Sorry to hear
How about merit, not skin color? More unqualified people were hired because jobs needed people of color to be proper and not hired because of qualifications. Just look at NYC firepeople hired by a judge because people could not pass OPEN BOOK TESTS so the judge said he would hire the people needed without a competitive test.
Number 1, one is obligated to hire anyone for work.
Number 2, if you are good and a decent person employers will hire you regardless of your color or sex as they want the best employees they can have to advance their business.
So, Trump getting rid of the 1965 Act makes zero difference as any employer simply not hire you if they don't want to anyways for whatever reason.
It ended illegal, unconstitutional racial discrimination. The day of Affirmative Action and ensuant Set Asides is long past. Democrats corrupted it as they do everything.
It was abused to block Asians from college admissions.
FALSE. Please correct your post baed upon facts and re-ask.
No correct, please correct yourself in looking up the facts and re-comment once you got it straight
Post the facts. Not what i saw. Without refernce, got nothing.
He is a dick for doing this. Thanks Republicans for electing him as president.
It removes DEI and allows employers to hire based on merit...👍🏻
Employers have always been allowed to hire on merit. EEO is voluntary - I assume with tax incentives.
Okay so, what about the study that people don’t get hired more when they have a ‘black sounding name’?
@MisterWack Never seen it. But if true, that company is racist and that black individual is better off not working there.
During my working years I was denied many opportunities for less qualified people to fill required quotas.
I haven't looked into it, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's just wording to make it sound bad, but it's actually good or at least neutral..
this is a perfect move. its not setting us back, for a while now we needed to hire employees based on their actual working qualifications instead of their race and skin color alone
Sounds like something CNN would claim to be true!!
why don't you do your own research on what the Act is before spreading propaganda?
Starting to sounds like 1930s Germany.
Their showing their true colors.
How can a president revoke a law?
Based. I laughed hard.
Bring on Jim Crow !!!
Psalm 116:11 all men are liar
He is the king of selfhaters
