Well, it was almost a non-existent issue, so itâs just weird to me that itâs been such a prominent movement against it, when the movement FOR it is nearly unheard of. Like itâs not thereâs a strong wave of active support for it on the left, itâs really only an issue because MAGA made it one. The NCAA has 500,000 athletes, and only 10 are trans.
Itâs not a hill I care to die on, I might even be inclined to agree. Iâd need extensive studies to really get a feel, but MAGA hates science, lmao, so here we are🤷ââď¸ I just generally support the idea of people living however they want without interference or getting bad looks from anyone else, as long as they have no intentional malicious harm to anyone, which is the case here.
Everyone knows this has nothing to do with protection of female athletes, nobody is stupid. Itâs an excuse for persecution that has an extremely rare leg to stand on in an argument, so it got blown up into a huge thing, but the real spirit of it is simply to make trans people uncomfortable and shrink back their already barely-visible presence in society, based in nothing but ignorance and mean spirit.

There were two high school boys in Connecticut that decided to declare that they were women, which allowed them to compete in a running race against girls, and they finished first and second in, by a large margin, over the third place girl. After the race, they went back and rejoined the boys track team.
@AviatorTom yeah, I mean, I appreciate that, and Iâm sure thereâs fuckery like that, but I think we also know, like I said, this is zero to do with sports integrity for 90+% of detractors, and everything to do with creating an uncomfortable climate for a specific demographic of people, out of dislike for said demographic, way more so than legitimate perceived athletic imbalance. For most people on that side of the table, the arguments arenât usually respectful, with concern for both sides of the issue, only for one side, and it doesnât take long before the first ignorant comment gets uttered.
Iâm sure thereâs a world where that sort of thing could be regulated out of it. The rules are completely made up by humans, they can be whatever we decide theyâll be. Itâs not like weâre rolling with the realities of physics or laws of energy or anything like thatâŚ. these are games we invented that we play for amusement, maybe exercise, and at the end of the day, we could completely forego altogether and still be just fine.
So even as a pretty committed athlete my whole life, sports are never some life-or-death issue that we canât play with the rules of. I donât care about any money potentially lost, scholarships, etc, itâs again a minor issue. Sports are and always will ultimately be âfake lifeâ and not something we have to hit the emergency brake for in order to protect. I feel like we focus way too much energy on the concept of defending sports integrity in the first place, not that itâs wrong in a vacuum, but more just like âwe havenât figured out so much actually-important shit that thereâs nothing left but trivial things like sports.â
Instead of worrying about athletic scholarship opportunities, why donât we worry about making education affordable and accessible for everyone, so no one has to rely on sports to improve their professional situation? That feels like a more productive use of energy to me.

Iâll never forget when I was in high school Iâm gonna say this was probably â95 or â96, and I was reading the Boston Herald (conservative paper!) and saw in the high school sports section, a field hockey game, and one of the players in the action shot was a boy. I remember his name was âNiles.â He had the same uniform, wore a skirt.
I asked a girl I knew to ask a friend she knew who played field hockey about it. They had actually played against his town. The story was that he was British and had moved to America. In the UK, field hockey is also a menâs sport. So they petitioned the state high school athletics commission to allow him to play with the girls, and it was approved. Never heard a peep about it from anyone, no angry parents, no âitâs unfair!â, no concerns that the girls were being made unsafe in any way. It was just âoh, Chatham High has an English boy who plays with the girls on the field hockey team. Isnât that interesting?â, amongst field hockey circles.
Itâs weird to me that we were more progressive 30 years ago, frankly. Only way to move in life is forward. Things will always change, itâs our job to roll with it and accept it without being a dick about itđ¤ˇââď¸

I canât stress enough, I donât care if trans-women ultimately donât compete with cisgendered women. Thatâs not my fight. What concerns me is the total lack of respect in the conversation towards only one side of the table. Itâs not the answer you arrive at, itâs how you get there.

Actually, the whole thing came up when the left started praising men for their participation in women's competitions. It became an issue when full fledged dudes started winning women's medals and when women were shocked by having men in their locker rooms.

Gorillas would never be allowed to compete in UFC because humans can't fight them. That doesn't mean anybody hates gorillas. They just have too much of an advantage. Men have an extreme physical advantage over women. It's not fair to the female athletes. Hormones only level the playing field if they started before going through puberty. Once he has the muscle mass of a man, hormones don't reverse the process. When a guy ranks 300th in men's swimming then win's women's championships, it sould be perfectly obvious that hormones are not bringing the man's phsycial performance to the same level as a woman's.

This is fair and just and it serves to protect the integrity of female sports. Males are bigger, stronger and faster and itâs an unfair advantage. Female athletes are awesome and I love watching womenâs hockey in particular. Putting a man in the PWHL for example would be a disaster though.
I watched an interview with a female volleyball player, her and her team were forced to let a biological male change with them. They said this person would pull their pants down and had his/her penis taped up.

Some girls dedicate their life to become the best at their sport so they can go to college, be in the Olympics, be professional athletes, or just accomplish something they are proud of. Trump does not have the authority to make a blanket ban like that for sports. He is in charge of the government, most sports are independently run businesses, it would be like the president trying to mandate that all movies must include an explicit praise of Trump somewhere in the dialog. It would be incredibly stupid and impossible to enforce with any power the president actually has. He is not in charge of sports any more than he is in charge of any other entertainment industry.
It wasn't a direct ban. I believe he said that any sports league that doesn't comply will lose its federal funding, though.
So they can choose not to comply, and it'd be fully legal, but a big financial loss.

I agree that there are sports that both men and women can compete equally in. Those are sports that don't require superior size or strength. Hell, I wouldn't mind of women wanted to try out for men's competitions. A few women might cut it, but only very few, if any.
But I am opposed to men posing as women in order to compete in women's sports and beauty competitions. We don't allow men in those competitions, so why do we allow men who "claim" to feel like women?
