Can Ukraine survive as a country without Donetsk region?

It would appear the breakdown is over letting go of some parts of Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees. Putin at minimum wants Donetsk and a few other regions and this is primarily where the oil resources are located.

Question is, could Ukraine survive if they gave up such region and it's resources for energy? The problem quickly becomes viability.

I'm sure some would argue, Putin wants all of it. He may... he had control of it before it shifted west. But he might settle for a chunk of it, the Russian cultural areas, which is most of what he's demanding right now.

Anything else... keeps creeping towards Euorpean WWIII which eventually draws in the USA.

For what it’s worth, part of Ukraine‘s re-alignment to the West is their transformation into a service based economy. For example, they produce a lot of capable it-workers and engineers. But of course they won’t relinquish their most important region for coal and steel production, no reason why they should!

Yes and no.

No, mainly because Putin would attack again and again in the near future until the entire Ukraine is swallowed up by the russian empire.

And yes in the past countries of Europe have always lost and gained small portions of the land and it didn't hurt them too much.

Yes. It's was former industry region but steel and coal aren't the industry horses they were once. Innovation is. You can literally have a small office with few workstations and few talented people who produce code or patents that generates more money than 5 steelworks.

What security guarantees? All that seem to be on offer from trump is give the east to putin, I'll take your minerals, and in exchange we won't stop you defending yourself. There are no security guarantees in the deal

yes trump offered only exchange of stuff for stuff rather than free... ignore trumps offer... not my question.
I question if Ukraine can survive without donetsk (and the area of Crimea) which is where the oil/gas seems to be located.
Security guarantee = NATO or some guarantee of militiary resources. Noone offered that because it's instantly WWIII!

If Zelensky doesn't smarten up , not having the Donetsk region will be the least of his problems.

It shouldn’t even be a question. Russia invaded them and broke international law. There should be no compromises after that.

We'll ok... but they did. This is the concept of "not one inch". I won't tear into that, but there is a reality... they've pushed Ukraine in quite a bit and have no intentions of going back.
You fight them for however long in lives and cost or you find a solution to end the conflict.
