I think he's not just a French national hero but an international one. It's only because he helped women and not men that he's not more widely known. The fact he lived so long just proves that God approved of his work.

I would say the unintended consequences ended up being terrible. It would have been better if society didn't have rampant promiscuous people, endless hook ups and casual sex, people treating sex like a sport, a nose diving birth rate, marriage numbers diving.
When people had to be careful about sex and treat it like a serious thing and when they had to really vet potential partners and secure marriage or committed relationships society was much, much healthier.
A part of being a grown up. I may want to do all of these things just because I want it, it is fun in the moment when it really isn't good for you and you really shouldn't.
I may want to eat burgers and pizzas and fries and cake and brownies and Alfredo and chips and snacks and cokes and beer every day, every meal forever... but it isn't good that I do that so it is best to not just do what is always fun and feels good in the moment. It is probably best for someone to not start screwing at 15, go to bars and clubs and parties and to have endless casual encounters with tons of random... etc.
That is not good. It is not healthy. People often make horrible decisions for themselves and not indulging every whim or desire or feeling is often very, very wise and very, very good.
It is obviously a necessity for many women who either become pregnant by mistake or bc not working (don't get me started on the pathetic men who believe pulling out always works !!) and in my opinion it's ethically better than an abortion later !
I'm glad I've had a vasectomy, not only does that allow me to enjoy the incomparably beautiful/pleasurable physical sensations in my bare 'hardness' when it's inside a lovely vagina but (so sxl ptnrs have told me) it also feels better for her as well ! And the ultimate sexual release feels is a much more beautifully pleasurable experience too !!
I appreciate of course that (especially for younger men) vasectomy is not a possibility for everyone so it can't be the answer for most people -- so that guy is indeed a hero for creating a 'Plan B' medication !
But his pill is illegal in many states in the US. Because, unlike him, many males want to control when and how women have children and have the overbearing belief that an embryo must be carried to term under any circumstance. Even rape.
Safe and legal abortion is simply another form of birth control. It is unfortunate that other forms can fail and a pregnancy occurs, but it should always be up to the body carrying the embryo about "when and whether."
And IF there was ever governmental support through pregnancy and post-partum, and for the education and employment of young single mothers, and cheap, good child care that freed young mothers to get educations and work, AND good housing for young families, many more women and young families might choose to have the babies the religious right is angry that those women have chosen to abort.
Until those issues are solved, abortion will be necessary as a failed birth control backup. It's unfortunate, but reality
@Avicenna Unless you're a woman facing an unplanned pregnancy that will change your life if you go through with it, don't talk about being forced to have a baby as being nonsense. You will NEVER be in that position as a man.
Just a fact the morning after pill is not an abortion. A implanted fertilized egg will not be affected by this. It prevents 2 of the steps that are necessary for a pregnancy. Stops ovulation and thins the lining so that an egg cannot implant. Fine point but it won't abort an embro never mind a fetus.
Of course it was a French guy. Why am I not surprised. I think the French have contributed more to medicine/health and research fields in general, more than any other nationality. As a French supremacist who isn't French, of course this makes me proud. But I'm proud in general when White people achieve something big. Even if you don't agree with it, I think the simple fact that he invented something like that, should be celebrated and make French and White people feel proud.
People with moral imagination that every egg and sperm cell that does not transform in a child is murder will hate him, but no one is really forced to use those pills
