How might western politics change if people held their own parties to the same exact standards as they hold their opposition?

“People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”
“Keep your own side of the street clean.”
“Clean up your own backyard.”

“People are very inclined to set moral standards for others.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Never underestimate the hypocrisy of politicians.” ~ James Herbert

“A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation.” ~ Adlai E. Stevenson

The two party system, in particular, is rife with hypocrisy. Everyone knows it when examining the thoughts and actions of people who vote differently from them. But who among you has so closely examined your own party’s faults, foibles and fallacies? Did you switch sides… yet? Once you’ve experienced the absurdity on both sides, did you settle on the “lesser of two evils”? Or did you abandon the major parties only to find that too few people have learned what you have learned?
The lies, half-truths, corruption, waste, fraud and abuse is rampant everywhere. Have you contributed to it by making excuses for your party? Or are you ready for meaningful change?

The powers that be are winning because they have citizens too busy fighting with their peers to notice what’s really going on in politics and actually do something about it.
