5 moAlthough I hate Politics with a passion, people need to know what's going on in the world. I don't understand the politically obsessed folks but the ones that want to keep people informed on here and on other sites, I can understand that.

5 moBecause the thing with politics is that you may have zero interest in it, politics will always have an interest and influence on you whether you like it or not.
00 Reply 892 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I think most people just wanna know what's going on but then get sucked in and become angry and emotionally invested. It takes a lot of restraint and clear mindedness to stay detached. But I just find it interesting af when there's a lot of causes and effects happening at the same time and you can try and work out what's going on and how things are interconnected. That's why I was interested in Brexit and now I'm interested in this whole chaos that's going on atm. But there have also been times when I haven't followed the news at all.

5 moDepends on what you mean by “like” in terms of liking politics. There are folks who are fascinated by the social and legal minutia that goes into running the world and enjoy discussing possibilities there. There are people who follow identity politics and have it tied in with who they believe they are and, as a result, experience a great deal of passion in defending their beliefs. There are also people who just love the opportunities for confrontation in politics so they can give someone else the opportunity to confront their own identity and, as a result, broaden their horizons.

5 moThe powers that be are committed to keeping citizens invested in politics in order to maintain the illusion of democracy. Once that veil falls, there will be a violent revolution. There’s little promise that those currently pulling our strings will retain their power or receive meaningful returns on their investments.
Most people are dumb. So they do exactly as their masters tell them; never questioning a thing. They don’t necessarily “like politics”, but they don’t have the ability to think for themselves. So they go through the motions regardless of how futile it is in the end.
Like good dogs.00 Reply 2.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Because of the massive impact it has, its not like we enjoy politics for the sake of politics but its the means by which the world becomes better or much worse. They try to eliminate your rights and freedoms all the time so being away of that and pushing back against it is important.

5 mocause like it or not its pretty dang important. and if our government is doing bad authoritarian shit you are gonna wanna know that especially if they come to your neighborhood. gonna need to be prepared. Democracies take active participation by the citizenry to thrive. im doing my part.

5 moDefine politics? I'm very interested in political opinions of people because it tells me who they are on the spectrum, in life, through their worldviews. And I'm interested in political philosophy as well, as a separate subject.

hmmmm, well, what happens in US affects us in France for example. Just not about economy. Socially as well, since the US is very influential around the world. Whatever happens there gets reflected or distorted here, sooner or later

*Not just about economy
- 5 mo
It's especially true when the US has control over many popular social media, and people are all in for these media now, from infancy to elders

People who converse with folks from other countries usually have the ability, fueled by a desire to understand, to find a syntax that works. No foul or if you raise chickens? No fowl.

u 5 moPolitics define our rights, way of living and how the world works with each other. If you’re someone who avoids politics, doesn’t want to get involved, says it’s “not your problem” or “it’s too much drama”, then you get no right to complain or be shocked when your own human rights get taken away. I think people who avoid politics and don’t vote are pathetic.

Pathetic or smart?
- 5 mo
Pathetic. There’s nothing smart about silencing your own voice when it could be the major change that your country needs.
5 moHumans have a need to belong to a group, They feel weak if not part of something bigger than themselves. The most challenging thing to do psychologically is to stand alone. Sadly hatred and rage seem to be the largest combining forces. I remember a Priest telling me that those two emotions were the hardest to recognize in oneself because they make an individual feel in control. But you will notice the actions of those groups are usually out of control.

5 moPolitics is my job IRL, I am an elected official - and that's a big reason I refuse to discuss politics on here.
Also, things are so extreme here. You can't agree to disagree, you have people making multiple accounts just to shout you down or follow you around.

5 moOh, my love of politics has been thoroughly extinguished. Interestingly, it was extinguished by interacting with the people who supported the same side as I did at the time.
Politics used to be a much more intellectually stimulating topic. I enjoyed it because it was about problem solving.
These days, politics is just emotional mud throwing. It's tough to get excited about that.

5 moI don't like politics, but to ignore it seems irresponsible. I want to be as informed as possible, and I think we're better off with as many people informed as possible.
10 Reply 2.5K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Politic is the art of negotiation. As long as you see politics as cold and objective calculation and not as emotional thing, you can participate in it. You always lose a negotiation if you're start to be emotional.
10 Reply1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Love it or hate it but everything is politics and if you live in a Democracy then it is your civic duty to both care and engage in politics or there is a pretty good argument for classifying you as a traitor.

5 moI suspect most people into politics aren't actually into politics. They see it more as being in a gang where the object is to oppose everything the other gang is into.
