It is a summons for jury duty. It probably has instructions for the day or a link to the instructions. For my state they have a number to call the day before to see if you need to show up. If you do you typically need to show up at the courthouse in the jury room before 9 am. Then you sit around until you get dismissed or chosen for a jury pool. If it is a long day they will probably give half an hour for lunch. If you get chosen for a jury pool you go up to the courtroom and the defense and prosecution ask you questions relating to the case to determine your impartiality. After that I don't know what happens; that is as far as I got.

Being in the jury pool does not mean you will serve on a jury. Being in the jury pool basically means you are on-call in case you are needed.

If you are selected to go in, you will still not likely have to serve. Then if you go as far as jury selection, you still might not have to serve.

It just means you're getting called in for jury duty. You'll be put in a pool of prospective jurors and they'll select from among that pool, and you may or may not he selected.

The plaintiff could take a plea deal and forego a trial altogether (happened when I was called in a few years ago). So you could have some long days ahead of you or you might get a free day off work.

Seriously. You don't know what a summons for jury duty is? Time to go do your civic duty as a citizen and serve on a jury. Don't worry, most people who are called for jury duty are never impaneled and get to go home after 1-3 days of showing up at the courthouse in case they need a jury.

You get a registered letter in the mail inviting you to serve on a jury. If you know any politicians , this is the time to ask for a favor and get you out of it. Otherwise you have to go. If you get picked you should tell the judge that if the guy got this far through the system, he has to be guilty.
