Before there was Trump, you have 250 plus years of US history. How much of it do Americans REALLY know of it, our true history? I can confidently say that the vast majority of it is appalling, starting with the settlers treatment of the native population, then relocation, through slavery, railroads, right up to current day racism. Red, brown, black, yellow races... to quote George Carliin, "you know what the motto of this country ought to be - you give us a color, we'll wipe it out".

The common responses include "but those were some of the leaders, not the people. The people didn't want that, the people are basically good and decent". But are they? Were they? That's the history you as an individual have to ask, IF you're even willing to concede it "should" be asked, as this poster is doing.

How many individuals think they're white supremacists? How many would admit it? Who will admit their own hatred in their hearts? Not many of us. Now that it's been greenlighted by the President himself and every one of his cohorts, the haters are free to express it any way they want with impunity. You've been told " you know longer have to figure out WHY you hate your fellow man because it's ok to do that - they're hateable, especially if they're not white". Then go to church on Sunday, and tell us all just HOW MUCH you love Jesus and live by his words.

Trump is the catalyst that allows the ugliness to fester.

Definitely a symptom. Trump is probably even the most benign version of this outcome. It could have been so much worse if Trump was instead someone competent and less emotionally unstable.

I know man. Imagine if it were Josef Stalin instead of a blithering idiot in orange makeup. Napoleon Bonaparte. Adolf Hitler. Or Dwight Eisenhower turned to the dark side.

He is a symptom of the Heritage Foundation. They are using him as their puppet in order to make the Project 2025 into fruition, and it's working. As for his nasty, racist self-- his parents nurtured that.

A symptom. The right fringe has taken over the Republican party and the left fringe has taken over the Democrat party and there's no party for normal people.

The attitude surrounding Trump has been in the US since the days of Nixon. This isn’t anything new, just the progression.

I would argue the problem has been here since before the country was officially founded. Greed, slavery, a landed aristocracy, weaponized religion, exploitation of the working class, genocide of Native Americans. We have always been a divided country glued together by some shared interests. Half of us held our noses and shook hands with the devil.

It's more likely that you are the problem given that you lost the election to a majority and can't accept the will of the people.

He's only the symptom of a much deeper pathology mixed with rage, apathy & unfettered capitalism.

The fact that we reached a point where Trump was elected proves that we have a deeper problem.

Well, he's definitely a large part of the problem and I suppose you might decide that he is also a symptom of bad taste in general.
