I mostly agree. It is primarily just attributing traits to a word.
Like how the alpha and beta movement simply bunched up all good traits they like into the alpha. It is not that it was a true link, just what people chose to categorize.
Today something like being physically aggressive, when unprovoked, is perhaps called toxic masculinity. But it has never been considered masculine to start with. Unwarranted aggression has generally been seen as being insecure. Insecurity has, for most of history, been a polar opposite of what is seen as masculine.
So at the end of the day, we are just attributing words to it. If we choose to call toxic behaviours masculine it is ultimately because we, for whatever reason, want to bunch those traits up with men and being masculine. Not because they neccessarily are.
'Toxic masculinity' is something what feminists would say because of their resentfulness and envy because men are stronger than women and have more power than women naturally. Thus breaking the biggest false promise that the world have ever heard called 'equality'. Hence why they use the word 'toxic' to compensate for it.
There is plenty of toxic femininity⌠but according to the same people who make these words up like toxic masculinity or mansplainingâŚ. There for some reason isnât a female equivalent.
People can be toxic. Thatâs a choice people make. Most of the people using these words (mostly because they think they sound smart it does the opposite) are projecting who they are.
I disagree but mostly with the word never. There are masculine traits that if they are uncontrolled are toxic like aggression or dominating behavior traits that in extreme are toxic for behavior.
Nonetheless I wouldn´t say that masculinity in every form is toxic.
ehhhhhhhhhh, I think most things taken to an extreme can be toxic. Being overly aggressive, overly competitive. overly stoic can all become bad things, but I think Femininity can also be toxic if taken to an extremes.
This is a social media thing! Social media causes more 💩!!!
Because if it's not a social media thing then it would have always been an issue since the beginning of time and it wasn't. It started when everyone and their grandmother got a cellphone!!
Never was and is compromised now by cultural trend. Men did this to ourselves. Sooner or later, the Schiff will hit the fan. War, Cultural collapse, financial collapse, natural disaster. Then women will cling to men like baby possums, as they have for millennia.
The term "toxic masculinity" is widely misunderstood. It properly applies to certain masculine traits which are regarded as toxic. There's no implication that masculinity is toxic in and of itself.
So if your question is "has masculinity every been inherently toxic?" my answer has to be no.
Masculinity is a necessary tool for human survival, there are definitely toxic people, but thatâs not about men being toxic thatâs about people being toxic, and some of them are men.
Masculinity isn't toxic. What is toxic is the behaviors and beliefs of a handful of fucked up personalities like Andrew Tate who confuse being a brain damaged loudmouthed asshole with being a man and masculine. Unfortunately, the loudmouthed assholes are the ones who get noticed the most because it's hard to ignore a donkey constantly braying in your ear.
@Ausgirl911 ,
You are seriously mentally ill. It's fun to watch but like probably everyone else in your life I don't care what happens to you. Just go away you basket case.
@Ausgirl911 ,
No, you're a brain damaged pervert who seems to think she has the right to make the rules for everyone else. Meanwhile everyone else wishes you'd just crawl in a hole and die.
The left overuses the phrase but masculinity absolutely can be toxic. And some of that is bad but not all of the toxicity is a horrible thing, it inclines us to be stronger. We don't have safe spaces, the world is tough and we want to be tough in response to face it head on.
Femininity and Masculinity are a spectrum of traits and roles in society.
Putting Toxic in front of either or is just a new way of saying asshole.
Itâs not that difficult to be Masculine and not be a asshole.
I love this!
Masculinity and Femininity have never been toxic. Having said that, there are some toxic people of both sexes, male and female.
It's an admission by the person using the term that they have an antisocial personality disorder and can't deal with people. They should be locked up in an insane asylum just for using the term.
Masculinity is just a set of traits, I have several masculine traits. What is toxic, are the expectations placed on men or perpetrated by men. Like saying men can't feel anything but anger, or that men shouldn't cry.
Agree, it's just testosterone competition. nature.
I agree that masculinity isn't toxic, but some men are.
So called "toxic masculinity" is just toxic behavior exhibited by a male. Both men and women exhibit toxic behavior. Ascribing it to masculinity or femininity is pure sexist divisiveness, which is what the people who say it are trying to do. Don't let them.
@Physics-Man The problem begins when men exhibit too much of the macho image
The concept of âtoxic masculinityâ is misinterpreted by a lot of people, mostly men. Itâs not asserting masculinity in itself is toxic. Itâs actually an attempt to help men. âGrown men donât cryâ is an example of the idea
There's no such thing as toxic masculinity. It's either masculinity or not.
I disagree, many of patriarchal extremists usually mock me, mostly because I'm a virgin.
Rememeber the Rock talking about his masculinity.
Disagree. You're not a POC, LGBTQAI+, woman, immigrant, Jew, Muslim or another disfavoured group.
Well it can be, if a man likes to kill and rape I wouldn't call it effeminate.
It is all perspective.
Disagree, it is very toxic, or can be better said
Agree
