Did you grow up with bilingual books?

I know a lot of you are from non English speaking countries but most of your English is pretty decent. I'm guessing a lot of you started learning both your own language and others at an early age.

In bilingual countries bookshops sell bilingual books for children where the story is written in both languages side by side. Did you grow up with these type of books or only separate languages ones?

As far as I remember, I read a lot of books, but those were only in one language, mainly French or Flemish or English. On the other hand I have a lot of tranlating dictionaries of many different languages, and in all logic translating dictionaries do display at least two languages... ;0)

All of my books were in English. I wasn't exposed to other languages until high school, where I studied French and Ancient Greek.

@purplepoppy A little bit. When I was in college, the professor gave me an automatic A for the World Literature course because I recited, from memory, the first several lines of The Iliad by Homer in Ancient Greek, in its original Iambic Pentameter. I really have no idea why I can still do that.

When my wife and f I visited Greece a few years ago I was able to read (pronounce) many of the signs in the Greek alphabet, though I could only understand some of them.

Never had a bilingual books with exception of dictionaries.
Maybe bilingual books are more common in English and Urdu in UK since you have huge diaspora of them. Polish by the way is difficult to translate in other languages. It's like converting 64bit code in 16bit one.

Polish the second most common language in England. The third is Wales. Until a few years ago there was a Polish village here, Penrho village, Gwynedd near Pwllheli. It's now a Polish old people home.

A lot of books growing up were in English but in some libraries they had French counterparts to children books that schools didn't have

Absolutely not I’m an American and I speak English. I don’t speak Chinese Japanese or Spanish and I don’t need to if you’re gonna live in America you need to speak English
